  2. Chuang Tzu Chapter 4, Section A

well thats really wordy, and there are a couple great gems in there about how to deal with tyrants, but i think that in the end what he is saying is that if you want to return things to natural harmony, you can't use human endeavor or effort of that kind. You have to forget the machinations of the mind and dwell within in no-place and let the subtle influence of that spread naturally. Neat concept but I'm a little intimidated by the amount of verbage it took to convey all that. How different from chapter 1
  3. Whiteness descending while meditation

white fog or cloudy phenomena are a sign of progress, and it is said that it will go away, if you just let it pass. from Yang Jwing Ming's Root of Chinese Qigong p 177 White Scenery in an Empty Room sometimes when you enter a deep meditative state you will suddenly feel your physical body disappear and your chi mix with the surrounding chi. When this happens, it seems that the entire room is empty, and filled with a white cloud or fog. if you pay attention to this scenery, it will disappear immediately because your mind is not familiar with emptiness, and generates an image of familiar scenery to fill up this void. if you find yourself experiencing white emptiness, just sense or feel it, do not put your attention on it.. This scenery will happen only when your mind is completely regulated into a highly concentrated and relaxed state. The taoist Wu Yi Tzi said... ..."if you desire to generate the white, you must first empty the room"
  4. Imagination & The Ego

i will take my stab since i like to think about these things -what is imagination? the part of the mind that can originate novelty, or conceive of what it has little precedent or logical cause for. -is it a part of the ego? no. Be careful with that term here tho, cause some daoists refuse to address the idea at all. I will say for clarity's sake that i use it to talk about the conditioned self or false self. -is it a separate thing from the ego entirely? i think that it is fundamental to creating the ego, which is a construct of the mind, an imagining of its own sort if you will. That is to say that the false self is something like a mirage that is created and sustained by the imagination, and believed to be the real oasis by the rest of the mind. -is it truer then the ego? yes. people who have dissolved their egos still imagine things, from all reports. -is it part of the true self? i think so.. -how powerful is imagination? thats like saying how much can a bicep lift... it depends on whose imagination you are talking about, how exercised it is, and how connected to other parts of the self like willpower and intent it is. -how do dreams relate to it? dreaming reality seems to open the floodgates of it, and allow it to take part in the generation of the reality experienced -if you can imagine something does that mean it is possible? obviously not. i can imagine jumping off a roof and defying gravity but thats just my imagination. -Or is imagination just an extension of the monkey mind? The ego's higher-brain? An illusion which builds and walls the self? I think the imagination is not the heart-mind or monkey mind but an overactive monkey mind can feed off an active imagination. Whether one uses their imagination to free or wall in the self is a matter of intentionality and the coordinated effort of the rest of their mind and being as well, so theres no simple answer to that question. It depends on the individual.
  5. The Supernaturals

oh okay, i like your emoticon descriptions i've heard of breath retention i guess i just didn't make the connection.
  6. The Supernaturals

what is qi retention? I've heard of semen retention but never qi retention. I'm not sure what the ego and karma have to do with each other. as to only believing what is "provable" good luck with that. One day science will evolve to encompass reality on realities terms, i hope you live that long.
  7. Chuang Tzu Chapter 4, Section A

yikes. I'll post the Mair soon. Dinner sooner
  8. Haiku Chain

Gaze upon the World. Don't try to understand it. You won't, so just gaze.
  9. The Supernaturals

power plants, even cannabis, are no free ride. Nothing's free, that's important to remember. I have never heard of a free ride in life. Sure you can have awesome experiences with plants and compounds, but all things being equal, i don't like relying on externals for my bliss either. The price, even of cannabis, is high in my evaluation. Interestingly, it pops up over and over again that people who espouse drug use as a valid path cite Carlos Casteneda's work as some kind of proof that it works. Sure it works, but if you read those books carefully, Don Juan Matus told Carlos he was only going to use the power plants because he was so stupid and blocked that he needed a shit ton of help from nature, and at another time told him power plants to irrevocable damage to the energy body and are only used when absolutely necessary. I used to use them, and when they told me to stop, I stopped, and having lived on both sides of the line, I am much much much happier on the purist (hahah "square"... try "responsible") side. I am not thirsty for externals to give me bliss because i have learned to tap into sources that do not require drugs at all. Maybe nothing's free but i feel a lot free-er without power plants in my life.. just 2c from a bum
  10. Seeking people interested in White Crane Gongfu!

i can think of several good looking websites without substance behind them. Anyone can tell you that its the practices that are actually important. You didn't even ask his lineage or history, you just busted up on his website. How do you expect to learn anything?
  11. Seeking people interested in White Crane Gongfu!

ahhahah i know right?! and people wonder why this site is so short on real practitioners and so long on petty nonsense. Cause teachers who try to spread the word of their school get treated like that.
  12. Entry-level Taoism?

you can read Victor Mair and James Legge's (i think thats his name) translations here in the Chuang Tzu subforum as we break them down chapter by chapter btw i recommend Victor Mair's Chuang Tzu and Tao Te Ching over others, he is my favorite translator. But i don't recommend stopping there, theres a lot of comparing to do to really get the points of the Tao Te Ching, and maybe not so much with Chuang Tzu but a little variety never hurt.
  13. Murmuration

my girlfriend just sent me this and it resonates the dao on so many levels, i will just let it speak for itself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEgSlRarcC8
  14. Entry-level Taoism?

just wanted to say i second the Daniel Reid recommendation, and i always recommend Chronicles of Tao by Deng Ming Dao to daoist neophytes. I am not going to engage anyone in discussion about whether its all true or not so feel free to air your grievances free of concern that i will attack you :D i won't. i also did not like Tao of Pooh but thats not to say it doesn't have some redeeming value. in my experience muqtada, daoism is about doings, or practices. There is philosophical daoism, but getting your diet, meditations, qi cultivation, sexual, and martial practices in order are a big part of it. There are obvious and hidden ways to apply the philosophy of Lao and Chuang to any art, from music to painting to dance to theatre etc. But mostly, i think that engaging in some daoist practices is the real key to unlocking the door of dao in your life. That is just how i would teach it if i were a daoist master tho hahahaaha :D philosophy is the basis for all these things and its good to understand, but without action and practices i think it is much much harder to apprehend the dao. and of course the dao that can be apprehended isn't dao at all, but thats another conversation. Ask marblehead. :D
  15. lower dantian theory by Damo Mitchell

yeah that is an effective technique Trunk! glad it helped you You can do it with the MDT with light green light, and a light blue light for the UDT. It works better for me with light that resonates with the center of the body (those chakra colors still work for the dan tians, i know its sorta mixing and matching but...) and also with the white light, so i use a lighter color that the orange, green, and indigo that go with those areas of the body. I keep meaning to start a kuan yin magnetic qigong thread cause your descriptions of your experience with that inspired me to buy the DVD. So thanks! Maybe i will go do that now...
  16. lower dantian theory by Damo Mitchell

yeah i still totally forget where i heard this but "packing" is considered to be a westernism, not really true to the original spirit of it. the method that works best for me to charge the LDT up is to picture myself in a field of white light, like a dimension of white light that exists everywhere but we can't see it with the physical eye (i love doing this). Sometimes i picture it nice and gentle, sometimes so bright its like a blinding awesomeness. Either way, i just picture a soft glow at my LDT of light golden color, and i don't really use effort, i just sort of get a feeling like the golden glow is like a piece of bread in a bowl of milk, just soaking it up. Not a complex technique but the crux of it is not using effort but taking a yin approach instead. I think Kostas Danaos <sp?> who wrote The Magus of Java said that the dan tian has no real limit to how much it can store.. and the 8 vessels store qi too, although i understand the amount they can hold is something you can exercise and flex over time its more set than the dan tian. I don't really understand cause i personally don't have that much juice. My dan tian gets buzzy and warmish and i just cycle it through my orbits and let it do what it does. I think qi naturally goes where it needs to, you don't need a map of the whole meridian system committed to memory using all kinds of complex intention or anything... blah blah blah im rambling any feedback on all that is appreciated tho
  17. Qi Color

    hahaha ok thats better! thanks!
  18. What are you watching on Youtube?

cool, watching some of it now, but not stuff on your channel, stuff from longmenpai channel seems great! thanks for the recommendation
  19. Qi Color

@Tatsumaru, i have experienced my teachers qi as a light blue, kind of like a liquid lightning i could see as it moved through my own orbits in his presence... kind of a transmission my own qi i see sometimes as a very light bluish white, or if i am doing Flying Phoenix Qigong and my eyes are closed, i will see my hands through my eyelids with a kind of yellowish glow. I don't think that seeing qi is something you should worry about because if you are looking for something you will color your perception or experience. So don't think "oh my qi is green" or anything like that as if you have discovered something. Qi is life energy and it can vibrate like light at a variety of frequencies.. back to Flying Phoenix, grandmaster Doo Wai can make green qi appear from his fingertips in a dark room but that doesn't mean his qi is green. So don't think its that easy to figure out. I would advise first feeling the qi and if you have an experience where your inner eye perceives your own qi, thats great, but don't fixate on it or think it means anything absolute. @Informer, mind if i say, wtf are those other chakras :D .. i looked at that page they came from, which is the only link about transitional chakras on the entire web, and it said that we are going through a dimensional shift to the 4th dimension and our chakras are changing colors! (naturally we need their products to assist us with this shift.. i think they were selling oils or essences of some kind). Also i thank you for the links but you are 0 for 2: i played the 528 frequency and my girlfriend (who wasn't watching my screen) said "can you turn it down please that makes me feel icky!" ahahahah at least it made her feel something!! im afraid to try the 174 one :D LOL much nothing personal of course i appreciate the links and such @ATMA, different people can have different chakra issues like too much energy in one or blockage at another. I'm with informer, most people are all stuck in their root and don't even realize it but as you do chakra work you will find that some are easier to visualize than others, some glow brigher, some are easier to get a lightburst from, some spin, some wobble, etc.. So a dominant chakra is different from person to person.
  20. lower dantian theory by Damo Mitchell

I think someone here said that the chinese character translated as "packing" was actually closer to "making space for more". It might have been from that book tho. Sorry i can't recall precisely.
  21. Outward Projected Mutational Flux

Hi Aaron, I like what you're saying. I pray every day, and have read both those books. I also know that faking it til i make it does work. Perhaps its something i should remember more often.
  22. Outward Projected Mutational Flux

i think to really understand each other we would have to define the term self-image for the sake of conversation in many ways i have stripped away my self image but a self image remains, if thats any kind of answer. Its become more transparent, less opaque. But its like a self-awareness that i wouldnt want to be without. I might walk into traffic without it. Its hard to really talk about, and no offense, but i don't know how this relates to life conforming to ones mind-state, so i'm not sure how to give helpful information. it is my goal to be goal-less, but i have worked to eliminate the conditioned self that i think youre talking about. Let me know how those questions of yours and the original post relate in your mind and hopefully i can be of more help.
  23. Outward Projected Mutational Flux

i think its better to try to be positive than to indulge in negativity but i tend to just feel my feelings as they arise so im not a big "fake it til you make it" kinda guy. i think its not the same as actually being happy, but its better than wallowing in sadness in other words.
