Hello everyone,
I'm pleased to have found this community and look forward to learning from everyone. I started practicing Tai Chi about two months ago and was hooked immediately. My current practice is based on learning the classic Yang long form (108 postures), standing practice (as taught in "The Way of Energy"), and Cheng Hsin contemplative and body-being work as taught by Peter Ralston. I come to the internal arts primarily for spiritual and philosophical reasons. I'm also interested in the health benefits but am not interested in combat, except for the fact that the martial applications seem important for understanding the form. Philosophically I've been most strongly influenced by Advaita Vedanta and Buddhist thought, though I retain my "philosophical independence." I live in Los Angeles, CA and am a mathematician/computer scientist by profession.
