I see people are still misleading each other on Buddhism
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to RongzomFan's topic in Buddhist Discussion
I will say only this: The mind is a delusion generator, not a window to the truth, and everything we percieve, experience, think, and otherwise think we know, must first be filtered through the mind/delusion generator. In all fairness, we cannot know anything but what we percieve; our perceptions are not knowledge, but filtered experiences/delusions. -
can you be normal and get the tao?
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to mewtwo's topic in General Discussion
Which makes no-one normal! -
Sungazing? minutely, without any such conscious acknowledgement of a practice or "sungazing" term. Although i do sit and observe the movements of the clouds and shadows. I've sat for an hour watching the shadow of a building crawl by without moving my gaze from the ground, and likewise for even longer, watching the trillions of vapors tick and wave across the sky. But now, i think i will see about watching the sun more intently tonight.

Thoughts, like blowing leaves
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to oat1239's topic in Daoist Discussion
To see clearly your own reflection, you must clear your mind, and let go of all attachments. To change your reflection, you must see into the minds of others, thus becoming attached. -
can you be normal and get the tao?
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to mewtwo's topic in General Discussion
To walk in harmony with the Tao, first try to walk in harmony with the true being of self, the whole of your being. What more is in need to be in harmony with the Tao? You might simply be in harmony by pushing paper behind an office desk job or by bullshitting with one of the local homeless. Your harmony is the "path of least resistence". -
Now accepting applications . . .
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to Green Tiger's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I'm an accidental natural. I've only truly been with one girl, my ex-fiance, and when we had sex, i learned a stark difference between having sex (fucking) and making Love. I learned, suffice to say, i can only make love. I've "been with" 2 other girls since and all they knew how to do was fuck and that did nothing for me, yet everything for them (apparently). As it is, however, i am not an attractive specimen, as i am "borderline homeless" and all-around jobless (in spite of constantly trying to land work). So do i "practice"? yes and no. it is only my nature to. but "practice" implies consistent application, which i cannot do without a member of the opposite sex, of which i appear to be repellant to. But americans dont seem to like simplicity. Keep It Simple Stupid, my ass. (hehe there's a joke there ) -
The Pyramids of Giza- something's not right, we're not being told something
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to Immortal4life's topic in General Discussion
Human Beings not only predate their own pre-history, but so too does our so-called modern technology. Has no one ever heard, or more accutely understood, the saying "as above, so below", or how about "all that is, has been, and will be once again"? It puzzles me, how people can get so excited about these things in this forum. read as: in this forum on the internet, of all places, how can people be surprised by anything? We don't even "need" to know anyways, all will pan out, regardless of who knows/does what/when. -
I'm at a library with 2 hours to surf. other than that, I've got 12 hours to walk, 2-4 days a week. and when at my current place of residence (friends of the family took me in) there is barely a second's rest. So many things to do, chores, chasing the baby, keeping watch over the autistic 4 y/o boy, feeding and 'rotating' the dogs (from outside to inside etc.), and it leaves me with no more than 4-8 hours of sleep msot the time, though i do get a few 12 hour marathons but not on those 2-4 days a week!! those are strictly no more than 4 hours! (midnight till 4:00 AM). I'm in great shape, and much happier these days than in any in my past! Watch the clouds float by one day and see their hidden movements for me some time. we could talk about it for eternities.

can you be normal and get the tao?
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to mewtwo's topic in General Discussion
Anyone and everyoen can "get" the Tao. But it takes practice and Zen to BE the tao. Once you "get" it, you must then let go of it before you can be it. -
for those self-deluded clowns who claim they are "enlightened" when they are not..
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to tulku's topic in General Discussion
tulku, might i procure an answer as to why you are so hurried to reach and/or spread 'enlightenment', when your aproach is so heavy and fettered? -
Generally speaking, common people. Science has come a long way since the middle ages, i'll have to give it that!

a wonderful post, thank you -
The generally termed self is body. The true self is our whole being; Mind, body, emotions, and spirit.

Should I go to this year's Rainbow Gathering
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to Audiohealing's topic in General Discussion
You should go I believe that even if it's not your thing, you can say you went and it's (still) not your thing. At worst, it's not your thing, but there could always be something in it for you. Yin and yang, good lay within bad, bad within good. Look for the good -
You're sitting in front of a computer; the wrong place is not conductive to t'ai chi Wait, what am I DOING?

Living Life is a totally misconstrued taoist concept
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to tulku's topic in General Discussion
The only difference between bhuddism and taoism is the personification of a deity Even the master taoist sages emerge from retreat in caves. Why not? Because they have risen above the need to partake, through experiences which include indulgence I'm not trying to be beligerant, i just want to repeat myself cuz i love hearing myself type But seriously, has this been given ample contemplation? -
Love and Desires are Antithetical to Enlightenment
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to tulku's topic in General Discussion
Now, i know this is slightly out of context, but i think it delivers the proper blow to this idea. The only difference between bhuddism and taoism is the personification of a deity Even the master taoist sages emerge from retreat in caves. Why not? Because they have risen above the need to partake, through experiences which include indulgence In other words, while there are gods and creators and such all-powerful deities with plans to uplift the human species through rigorous practice and deprivation exercises (no sex, drugs, and rock & roll), their plans obviously didnt include gaurentee. WE have to use our will to experience. EVEN IF it takes an infinite number of reincarnations, we have an infinite amount of time to do it. stop worrying, it will only hold you back. WORRY is the real killer here friends, why worry? let go. The approach of this thread belies it's own intentions to free us from our own bondage by being submitted in bondage of worry. -
Threes appeal but fours are true. Push, pull, convince, and will. but you can will only yourself to move.

A wet rope is like a wet blanket, not as fun to play with. But your post beggs the question: To what is the necessity that I/we are required to pull this rope?

Breath Retention Is Really Good For You
Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan replied to Understanding's topic in General Discussion
"a common person breathes from the throat, a true person breaths from teh heels" I have recently read in a book i've checked out at the library. I've also read that we breathe with our muscles, not our lungs; that our lungs are the primary intake point, but not the "breath itself", that we breathe through our whole body. That being said, i think we are to learn to breathe with every ounce of our bodies, not just our abdomen or throat, or anything like that. Since oxygen is carried out through the blood and distributed about the WHOLE body, i think that the whole body out to respire. walk, stretch, think; breathe. -
I've checked out a book: Complete Tai-Chi By Master Alfred Huang Which encompases many aspects of the practice, including the traditional creation story, as well as it's basic benefits. Perhaps there is something more to it than i have read so far, but it seems to me, that you might be digging deeper than the treasure rests?
