What the snake actually did was fooling them in a weirdest way possible and making them the way they are now. The snake just repeated what the God said. Normal people see with two eyes but some people see only with their single third eye. The tree of good and evil is the tree of duality. God wanted people to be with him always but when they learned duality it was impossible to exist in the garden with God. They started to create their own reality and see things that in time would make the garden a horrible place, because now when there's good in the world then there must also be bad.
