Mantras are a language of function in the universe. No Buddha would want a cultivator to worship him as many fidn to worship Jesus, God, etc; but if that mannerism makes the individual be a better person, its fine. Its just not the only way. Also, Mantras, when spoken with sincerity (applied concentration and non wavering focus), and with holding to the cnoditions of its function (holding precepts, abiding by the manner inwhich it can function), a response will be met. Sometimes our own past conditions with such Buddhas and Bodhisattvas may be strong enough now that having not taken refuge, or holding precepts, we will still get a clear response. All in all, that doesn't mean going further isn't necessary. :-) Zhunti Mantra: Ji Shou Gui Yi, Su Xi Di, Tou Mian Ding Li, Qi JIu Zhi. The field effect and the burden of responsibility for our thoughts and emotions
ζζε replied to Audiohealing's topic in Daoist Discussion
*** Not bad Clarity, but there is one thing else: its not the thoughts and emotions that are controlled..and Controlling isn't a bad thing. On the contrary, no mind control, there is no progress in cultivation. It is about not letting your thoughts and emotions influence the way you see the world. Not letting means understanding whether or not these thoughts are your own, or influences from childhood times up till this current point. Who gave them to you, what led you to believe these views and emotions we experiences upon the influence of external stimuli is the way it is? This is the reason for control. to have strength in concentration to apply it in mindfulness so as not to be taken by your own thoughts, nor to have other be influenced by them as well. Therefore, if it is a thought or what not , influencing for the higher good of humanity, and living beings, by all means radiate that vibe. Yet if by some unknown force you might for one moment feel a bit of doubt, fear, etc, it will also be radiated. Control for imposing your will on others isn't good. But controlling for your own mind stability...very important. Not saying many, but a great majority place an air of negativity to the word "Control", as though it isn't "natural" to do. Actually, since we are not animals, plants, or other types of life forms, we as humans have the karmic capacity to develop strength of our mind in order to progress in attaining our inherent wisdom. because of so much influence in this "modern" world, the need to keep the mind at strict focus is so necessary in order to succeed in cultivation. The "natural" way of humans isn't the same "natural" way of animals, etc. The human "natural" way is very obvious once freed from the world views that are imposed upon us. When there is still a view of a self, there is still no idea of that "natural" WAY of the human realm. AndοΌ once the application of keeping the mind at strict focus is finished, letting it be without the method of "control" will allow for the realization of the fruit that was to be attained from practice. There will always be control, but it depends on our views and the method it is used within. Only when it is needed, it is utilized, when the method calls for something else, then one must find that something else. lol I'm touching on a lot of aspects in this post, please excuse the immense amount here. hahaha -
The field effect and the burden of responsibility for our thoughts and emotions
ζζε replied to Audiohealing's topic in Daoist Discussion
Your thoughts, whether conscious or not, effect the world and everything, one, around you. Since you have become aware of this fact, there is a conscious responsibility to control how you think, speak, and do. Basically because you know, now the responsibility of changing how you influence the world is greater. There is no overcoming it, only becoming more and more skilled at changing your world views. You don't have to harp on every thought, or even try to. All that is needed is to remain mindful of how you are influenced by the world around you, and how you influence it. Small things you can begin to become mindful of and change, and when that becomes easier, the bigger things will present themselves. Over time, you will be able to create a field of empowerment and optimism, instead of anxiety and doubt (not saying you create a field of doubt and anxiety now, I'm just generally speaking). Hope this helps. :-) Peace, Lin -
Wonderfully said, and I especially love this :

Did you try the method I offered? If you did, this is the manner in which I was stating. Its not going to be a burning heat, just a warmth upon the body. In this way, the sensation will not deter your application of concentration.
-
:-) Is is a very general sensation that arises with applied concentration. Meaning when there is enough concentration, heat will be a result. This is Yang Qi, in other words. The body generally will go through a heating and cooling state where one will feel cool at first, then hot, and then cool again. It will pass. In terms of raising it from the root chakra, well, if there is enough concentration power focused, it will stimulate that root energy and empower it to rise naturally. Of course, naturally means that the intent is to have it rise, while the nature of heat rises. There are many practices which can do this. Breathing to the abdomen, while applying concentration at specific areas, such as root chakra, 2nd chakra, so on and so forth...will cause there to be heat, because focusing on one point for a long time raises the vibration of that area, which eventually becomes high enough to function according to its nature. my sources are personal experience. I began learning at 8yrs old, and still am till this day. Cultivation never stops until it does. I can not quote people, or even living teachers of mine because they don't live any longer. I will just say, if what I say makes sense, and offers you a method to go forward, by all means utilize it, if not, throw it away. The reason is simple, only with the one's you feel connected with will determine the usefulness of their advices for you personally. Also, if I didn't try the method and see a benefit in a general manner, I wouldn't offer it Peace and Blessings, Lin

Liver heat, eh? hopefully you don't smoke, and don't drink coffee, or eat spicey foods, drink beer, and or other alcoholic beverages. Xiao Yao Wan is a good simple formula (tea pill). Its a harmless suggestion. Not the only one there either. Drinking apersonally formulated herbal concoction is so much better than patent formulas because they go so much deeper and are so much more concentrated with good stuff. Tea Pills (patents) are good too, and can help to a deep extent superficially. Depends on the level of the condition :-) and to the heating coccyx, when it gets hot, breathe it up the spine, engulfing the whole spine, while intending the breath to actually lower the vibration of the energy so as not to "burn" you out and or cause other imbalances. Intending to trust in that inherent wisdom will always lead one to open up to it and realize snippets of wisdom and teaching more and more. you may even try inhaling it up the spine, while it penetrates the rest of the body. All the while maintaining focus on its travels p the spine to the crown. It may stop on its own at certain chakras and feel like it disperses, but it doesn't. Its charging up the centers which need to reach higher vibrations. If and when that happens, just maintain concentration and wait for the heat to build up again to do it again. Each time, on its own natural accord, it will go to its necessary chakra and either move through it to the next, or charge it up. you probably already have such methods. But, You picked my brain..hahaha fun to share...sorry if you have this, done this, or are not interested. Hope it gives you something though and if not... NAMASTE!

Hi Everyone, I wanted to share with you all 2 vids I have of my students and I playing around in my backyard in NY, before I returned to China. Having fun with Push Hands. This was about a month ago. I don't know how to embed, so here are the links: οΌNEWLY POSTED. REMOVED OLD LINKS) Push Hands 1 Push Hands 2 ENJOY! Lin

** I like Qinna. Yet Qinna is too usual in push hands. **Its good for practicing fluidity and control, but Its not practical when a man is charging punches at speeds the mind can't fathom. So sticking, feeling, neutralizing, redirecting, receiving, issuing, rooting...these things come more into play, and if there is an opportunity for Qinna, so be it, but if not, oh well. Internal and external martial arts are only a term coined for the intention of focus. Regardless of how something looks like, it is the way it is received and the quality of the force issued which determines muscular strength (meaning muscular force more so) than not. ** The way I practice push hands is a bit different from the usual mainstream manner. Its only another way of practicing, and appearances in movement don't always tell the whole story of whats going on. Peace, Lin

Martial arts 2,000yrs ago up till the last 65yrs in China, were practiced for totally different reasons, with totally different cultural influences. Back then it was to refine the mind, be a great strategist, mature, last but not least, to be educated...of course an outcome was to be able to fight because fighting skill was needed to subdue the "enemy", not to show off and open a school..lol Culturally, the character that we see for military wu ζ¦, meant not to fight, but to stop fighting. Interesting? Not up for interpretation, the characters literally added to make up the word for Wu ζ¦, meant to stop the spear, basically stopping a fight. So you learn strategies, methods, philosophy and add education to it and you have a system of combat which allows one to use less effort to attack/defend, as well as mature into a righteous individual. Of course not many follow that path, so they just become fighters, more focused on how many heads they can beat than really refining their intelligence. Its true, today not many train as the old days...simply because we are not in the cultural situation to NEED to learn to fight. We have become a bit more cultured...some, and understand how not to entertain the idea of fighting for fame...unless its your job, for a sport, or you are a soldier. In other words, lots of training is needed indeed, but what's more important is one's state of mind, and method inwhich to apply the mind to result in a more mindful skill. Mindfulness, and Patience...for when an attack comes, anticipation of where it goes only allows it to get to its destination. One must disregard where it may go, and arrive at where it came from. Besides all that, practice in every moment by applying mindfulness of physics, distancing, placement, pressure, spine, hips, waist and joint alignment...that would boost one's training up. hahaha

Funnier when you begin to look like the teacher... strange how being around someone for a long period of time, under a strong influence they may have, either conscious or not of it, a student will begin to take physical features as well. hahahaha

Changing Destiny, Liao Fan's Four Lessons
ζζε replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in Daoist Discussion
I found the one by Master Jing Kong to be very down to earth and clear. :-) -
I do agree that one would want to train with someone they wish to emulate, or even be inspired by. It is inevitable that a student will begin to mimick the personality of the teacher at some point. Usually its done so as a way of false security for the student to feel and stay in the mindset that he actually knows what he is talking about. There are many wys to cover up one's greed for fame with humble words and a few phrases of modesty. But whether B.K. Francis is covering up, I don't know, I can't see the vid from China and I don't know him. But I have had my long many yrs of experience with a M.A. teacher who just can't get over himself, and to this day I am still pulling out little left over remnants of his personality out of my mind and speech habit. I have been doing that for 8yrs now, and so far so good. We only come to understand the deep influence one has upon our mind, once they have become readily absent from our presence. WHen left on our own, the cyclical habits get stirred, and we can either recognize them for what they are, or attach to them in fear. It is best to recognize them, and let them go on their way. A good method to Investigate the mind: What are my views before the influence of this person? Investigate that to "System Restore" so to say, and then begin the stirring of dust in order to transform it all.

This photo is such a good topic for meditation. Seriously, instead of pictuing a burning house with all your friends and family in it, and you do nothing, here is a totally different situation. You are on the moon, and the Earth blows up. hahaha You absolutely can't do anything about it. Hua Tou: Where are your world views if there is no world to view? Hua Tou: What is the world without my world views? Hua Tou: Where I do I reside, if the place sought to be residing in does not exist? hahahahaha I would just love to see the expression on the astronaut in this picture... but its not the face, its more like the empty, dropping, helpless feeling that makes the mind and all attachments just have no plae to go but nowhere, and all control and non-control is thus rendered useless. A perfect state to attain enlightenment. hahahahahahahahahahha

It is always important that a cultivator of the way checks him/herself out daily. This kind of investigation allows one to cultivate honesty, humility and virtue. After knowing one's own faults, it is best to apply oneself in changing them. Thus, further refining to a more complete being.

Hilarious! hahahahahahhaha It would have been quite amusing if someone did just start doing spooky things in the end of december last year. hahahahaha

Changing Destiny, Liao Fan's Four Lessons
ζζε replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in Daoist Discussion
Liao Fan's 4 Lessons are amazingly on point. When I read it in 2005, one of my disciples then suggested it, I immedietly was drawn in, and my life changed. I took those 4 lessons and utilized them into all aspects of my life/worldviews. Things changed, mind clearer, and simply more simple. I have recommended this to many students and teachers. I still do. Getting it with a commentary allows one to go deeper in understanding the cultural nuances at the time of these methods. There is much to understand while applying, and even just reading off hand, much to consider. So a commentary would be advised.
