What's the point of Union with Tao? Enlightenment? Satori?
ζζε replied to DaoChild's topic in General Discussion
THe point is to not be taken by anger, ignorance and greed when having to pay your bills, and find a job, and feed a family... -
I have friends who know him. I never met him. Peace, Lin

What are you talking about? Mak Tin Si is giving every one a heads up, and I am glad he is doing so. If I came on earlier, I would have done the same. Remember, just because some group uses a Taiji Tu, or the word Dao, and some cool looking pictures of China, doesn't make them legit, nonetheless proper in cultivation. A lot of groups sell Chinese culture and Daoism to naive westerners. These groups market it very well, and make t very believable. There is a saying in cultivation, I have said it before and will thus say it again: "False, False, True. True, True, False" Meaning? Present the false enough times and people will think its true. Bring out the truth and people will believe it to be false no matter how you present it. Peace, Lin

An enlightened, fully realized, and complete in wisdom and virtue: Annutura Samyaksambodhi... They could be in the mountains, in the grocery store, a prostitute, Drug dealer...out on the beach taking some sun, running the government, cleaning the bathroom...selling you pizza...smoking cigarettes off the corner with the gamblers while trying to make them change their ways of life...hahaha they could be wearing robes, sneakers shorts and a tank top...In the temples reciting the Buddha's name (both Daoist and Buddhist alike), ...they could be lighting incense to Master Lu Dong Bin, Wang Mu Niang Niang, The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, or could be rude guy on the street, or the most uncouth person you ever met. With no characteristics to label them enlightened, they just walk around minding their own business. Tell them they are enlightened, or even ask them if they are, and they deny it till they curse you till your ears bleed... tell them they are not enlightened and they have no troubles with it. They just laugh, or walk away at the word. not to say that people who do this are indeed enlightened...not certain. You just have to hope that what they say to you leads you to a happier life...how to tell...meditate, and do not seek for powers, do not claim to have understanding, and do not indulge in desires...any teacher telling you to do what you want, with no regards to restraining the mind is leading a deviant path... a good marker to look for. Peace, Lin

This is in full presence of Fathere Paul. A conversation him and I had over the course of a day and a half. For some time I felt him in between worlds and wrote him on Sept. 8th saying Where are you? He replied, Nowhere. Then within those next few days there was emptiness of him in mind. I wish to share one of the last conversations I had with him over the summer in late July, early august. I did post it on my website with his permission over the summer. On my site I named him Tongxiu which means cultivation brother. Here I edited it and put his name in. It is proper to share it formally here: Lifting the Flower greetings my brother, yesterday i was sitting on my deck when i forgot myself, something was inquiring into the nature of emptiness, it seemed that all emptiness is in truth all form, and all form is emptiness. perhaps i deceive myself yet i find no deception peace, Father Paul Aiwei says: Looking out to the trees in the forest, I saw no difference between the emptiness between them and them altogether. There was no tree, no emptiness. My seeing was turned inward, but there was no seer to distinguish the direction. You are not deceiving yourself... Where does the one finding no deception reside? Father Paul: this morning something sat on the deck no one sees for there is only seeing indeed where is there to reside? Aiwei says: this morning nothing was there to sit on the deck. There was no deck, thus no thought of not residing. Where does the morning go? Father Paul: and even now the sun rushes to the horizon where is there to hurry so? perhaps i delude myself and the sun has never moved Aiwei says: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I laugh but it is not I. who distinguishes the non distinguished? it lays there but in mind. It plays there but in sight. Nothing to see, no lying done. Sight is thus, no laughter, no playing. Who hears? Father Paul: indeed there is only hearing HAHAHA these words are sweet as a peach and the juices spill freely to the thirsty it is to be that we shall never meet in the flesh but my brother, keep this close in the non-doing the world changes despite itself though no one will ever know Aiwei says: My brother, what a time we have. In truth we are the same. What a shame not to meet, for on such a meeting the heavens would shake. It is a shame only to say shame, but it is no shame for there is nothing that needs to meet. I return in almost 2 yrs. I look forward to tea. Don't go anywhere or I'll find you and claim delusion for you to make form and drink tea with me. Father PaulοΌ HAHAHAHAA Perhaps it is good that heavens do not shake for my sand garden will be much disturbed HHAHAHAHAHAHA Aiwei says: hahahahaha perhaps hahaha I'm sure we would remove the sand and that which the sand lays upon. Father Paul: in ancient times a man who was a man unto himself (a sage) upon meeting one of his own ilk he would dance and sing the voice of the law than scatter to where he was needed most, i am but an old hippie living in a trailer park, it hides me well, be safe my brother, for as you know, what we say upsets the very foundation of the society we live in Aiwei says: It is a thin line in the fabric of their conditions in which we live. We dance in each otherβs presence and speak of the way for the sake of our own enjoyment. I have been told to mix into to sight of others, to be seen as the sheep amongst the flock, and speak the way to those who have ears. Thus, I am stubborn... Still have till 99yr with this body. This stubbornness is that of mind and shows in manner of putting down this frame of thought we call body. I will tread in silence with a roar for the ears of fate. This garden of mind, I will plant the seeds for those next to come. I tread silent, but it is a roar to those with ears. Who sees such treading as a mosaic of intentions knows not the truth. Those are confused ones set out to disillusion those who know their delusion. I abide in a place of no abiding. But all only see what they are capable of seeing of me. Though I hold many faces according to those held by living beings, there is not a stand for such a face, there is no residing. My cultivation brother, it is a fresh air that has come to me upon our meeting. It is a fresh air that goes upon our depart. Neither depart nor meeting I look at to certify our knowing. It is thus that we speak ...and yet not a word has been spoken. Father Paul: indeed this one hears the roar it is but the gentle lapping of the wave on an eternal shore thus even though we are not we shall spread a breath of air to all the hungry it is but a thing to do with no doer with this i say good evening these old bones have traveled far to get to where they always were Aiwei says: Brother, Before your stillness, tell me when it does. Father Paul: you will hear the mountain tremble thus you will know ------ To let you all know, I live in the mountains in China, teaching English in a University, also teaching martial arts and cultivation. It just so happened that I did hear the mountains tremble. -----

buddhist temples alowed to ordain? monk and work?
ζζε replied to mewtwo's topic in General Discussion
If one is fully ordained that means they have taken all precepts and thus are not to take money as their eward for work, services. Some monasteries do ordain people to be monks, but most temples do not. Most temples can direct one to a temple/monastery who can transmit the full precepts. Some monks have not taken full precepts and thus can touch money. Peace, Lin -
The school is coming along alright...thanks Mal!

External is likened to using excessive force, momentum driven applications and development. Internal is likened to using just enough of the body's contraction of muscles, alignment of joints, cultivation of physics; posture, movement, and last but not least, deep and unmoved concentration. It is such that every martial arts should have this..but not all do. Is it in Wing Chun? Yes. Peace, Lin

Great post...his words sound familiar...

Desire to continue in cultivation, or the passion to investigate the mind, and or practice methods to enhance the body; Qigong, Meditation, Yoga, etc... these are good in keeping you to practice. The desire and passion them self will not do anything beneficial. It is the person utilizing the state of passion and desire to focus on cultivation. As far as desire and passion for...sexual gratification, to want to be around someone, wanting things, passion for foods, etc..and vice verse...these will do no harm to you if utilized properly, yet they will do no good for you either regardless of how they are viewed. So, for training purposes, the desire to attain and passion to practice is helpful to reach your goal, but it must be forgotten about and the methods must be practiced. Looking at the importance of desire and passion in cultivation in general is likened to looking at the leaves of a tree instead of looking at the whole tree. The desires and passions in cultivation for cultivation are but a small menial aspect that fades away. What remains is the view that it is imperative to cultivate.. haha regardless of how "boring" one may assume it can get. Peace, Lin

There are many different levels to Yi Jin Jing practice. From muscle and tendon flexing, to bone and ligaments, to compression to the bone marrow, and then moving to the mind flexing different energy centers, organs, nerves, etc... it can't be done in one year. It is a life long cultivation in and of itself. It won't take you to enlightenment, but it will give you a clean and vibrant body, good abilities if you practice a Martial Arts, and it paves the way for good old fashioned concentration. Not to mention great health benefits. To actually gain martial power through it, a good 40 minutes practice of the actual routine. Half for health benefits. I utilize a Daoist form of Yi Jin Jing..but all in all they do the same up to a certain level. One day on and one day off isn't enough. Daily routine is best, never skipping a day. And lastly, what you get from it shouldn't be the driving force to cultivate it. Its the path of cultivation itself which will assist in attainment of what is inevitable. Wrong views will certainly poison the mind for the future. Peace, Lin

He just did a seminar in Manhattan, New York, about 3 weeks ago. I was invited, but couldn't make it. There are a few seminars he does a year...but only about 5 hours each. Peace, Lin

If you have desire, you are attached. If you have attachments, you have desire. No desire of something, means you are not attached to it, no views for it. Peace, Lin

Semen retention must go hand in hand with daily practice, and staying away from sexually oriented stimulants must be adhered to. You may not be looking at pictures, or craving after every women you see in the streets, but as long as there is some erection, or sensation at the penis, and or any type of semen leakage, it is a sign that the mind still holds causes of sexual desire. thus, daily practice of moving your energy away from the genitals, and through the body would be advised. In cultivation, people like to sell the idea of dual cultivation, and or masturbation to "move the energy", but this will only hurt you. If you do not have a teacher to guide you through the stages in retention practice, DO NOT DO IT. Qigong is not a game, or just a hobby to take. Too many people practice it now a days, and too many people de-value the practice. Retention will not harm you as long as you practice and move your energy, BUT most importantly while cultivating the retention practices stay away from any sexually related thoughts, music, movies, videos and pictures along with the opposite sex, in terms of close bodily and emotional stimulation. No sexual stimulation what so ever. Its a "sacrifice" many do not want to make, and they rationalize and research why its not good to cultivate retention pratices, thus they will never see the value in such practices. It should not be done by a novice, and especially not the first year of practice. Peace, Lin
