In response to all of the comments here, just two words should do it: Quan Zhen. I wonder how many on this board know what "Tin Si" means. I have met two in body. Both have high powers, and one of them lives in Hawaii. A bit of advice on this, in the world we live in, 低调=Di Diao...keep it on the low. For if you are, so what? If you aren't so what? Telling people only causes doubt. Not telling people does not let doubt arise. Peace and Blessings, Lin Ai Wei (Human)

Regardless if one sees Daoist teachings as Philosophical or Religious, in the world there are things that people just don't know about and there are methods to straighten things out, so to say. Its neither Philosophy or Religion. And just to let you all know, this talk of Daoist being a Philosophy or Religion started by people who wanted to be distinguished from the whole. There are just teachings, and methods of cultivation. On the other hand, one at a beginner's level can only understand their level. They can not understand the functions of a higher level. The idea of Daoist philosophy is not superior to the idea of Daoist Religion, vice verse. Even the idea of different groups of Daoists are against the principles of the teachings, but because they are there, and good upholders of the teachings, they will be. There are more things to "Daoism" than just words in a book and a few stances of Qigong. Some people can only do with the words and Qigong, others go further and investigate a mind of no distinction, and understand the actual "science" . Peace, Lin

Relatively, that which goes up, goes down. When one gets out of relativity, there is neither up nor down. In the mean time, going down may be where the roots of a tree go, but that is just a metaphor in cultivation, sounds good, but don't follow it literally. The truth is, that which is clean, will have that which is dirty, but only when in the relative state. Get out of the relative state, and clean and dirty are non-existent. This would be a state of no good, no evil, and no distinction of the two, for there is no two and no one. This is why a mind of no distinction is called a clean mind, undefiled mind. Peace, Lin

All beings have the Buddha Nature, its just that not all beings attain the fruit of their Bodhi Nature (Enlightened Nature). Meaning, not all beings realize , "attain" enlightenment. Regardless of how long they cultivate, their enlightenment is complete when not one defiling thought enters, not one defiling thought arises, and all causes for views of separation are no longer in the mind ground. It can be 10,000 lifetimes, it can be 84,000. Its according to the causes and conditions of the cultivator, their karma and how they handle it. All living beings include demons, hell dwellers, cats, dogs, fish, beings of the heavens, and all realms...not just humans and animals and fish, but the whole gamut. One can attain immortality, but that doesn't mean they are good. They can be immortal and arrogant. but that state of immortality wouldn't be a pure state, for because of the attachments to views, they will be subject to birth and death, and their state of immortality would end. There are once returners in Buddhist cultivation, where all they have left is one more life and then BANG they are done with the cycle of birth and death. There is also too much hype about immortality in today's Daoism. This is a reason why there is so much confusion out there in the mainstream about Daoism. People pick on a few states and use it as a marker for real Daoist teachings when in fact, they haven't even figured out how they came to be, when they will go and where they are going. All this immortality stuff, and spiritual powers talk is a big waste of time, especially when people just don't even know when they are going to die in this life...let alone know where they came from. Takes cultivation to figure it out. Hard work, and not toiling in the nonsense talk of immortality and states and powers. Its fun to discuss, but in truth, intellect will not get you there. Peace, Lin

Buddha, can not be said to just be immortal. But that quality is neither here nor there, because there is no life and no death for a Buddha. So Immortality isn't a thought, just the way it is. Immortal is just a state, not a being. A being can be in the state of immortality, but if their mind still has attachments to views, they will be subject to birth and death, thus not being truthfully immortal, but possessing a great lifespan that is just said to be immortal. In Buddhism, the only immortals are those who have left the cycle of birth and death. 4th stage Arhats, but they are not of Daoist Immortality because the path and teachings are different on the causal grounds. Two different realms until the state of holding onto views has been put down. Conceptualizing will be a waste of time indeed, unless someone can put the proper perspective into place. But all in all, Daoist and Buddhist is just a name to cultivation of specific methods. In truth, if it is wholesome, it is Buddhist, if it is wholesome, it is Daoist. Just like people. Same planet, different countries. But, they are indeed humans!!!!! Peace, Lin

Daoists are not free from doing evil, and a Daoist Immortal can be a practitioner of evil things as well. They can take revenge on people, hurt, lie, etc. A wholesome realized Immortal is different of course. So please understand that I am not saying all wholesome Daoist Immortals are evil. I am strictly saying that though one may cultivate the teachings known as Daoist, and attain immortality doesn't mean they are wise and compassionate just for that. As that is so, a Buddha is a Buddha because there is no evil within them. This is why they are a Buddha. If there was evil, they wouldn't be a Buddha. An Immortal of any cultivation is truly immortal when they have ended birth and death and are free from karmic afflictions. A lifespan of 10,000years may seem like immortality, but it will end nonetheless, and the process of that karma will still bring the cultivator to more birth and death until the cycle of their own mind is ended. Peace, Lin P.S.- Daoist, Buddhist, it all must be put down to become complete in enlightenment and true immortality. Don't pick it up, and don't put it down. And also, keep to the context:

In the world of Daoism, if its too good to be true, it probably is. Basically, if you don't have to bust your ass for something grand, then don't bother doing it. And if there is a hint of shadyness to your teacher, with an taste of darkness in any manner, there probably is going to be a lot more where that came from. In the world of Buddhism, if you are not busting your ass for the attainment of wisdom, then you aren't gaining wisdom. Any sign of improper conduct, virtue and moral, your teachings will not lead you to a proper place. I can switch those two around and they will still fit properly for the two. How to tell which is what is not very easy, but there is a simple method. The method is, if there is any harm of any living being within the teachings, its no good, both Buddhist and Daoist values. If there is any manner to gain, and get before others do, to be first, then its no good. Peace, Lin Peace and Blessings !!!

Now just because someone looks ancient, practices energy cultivation, and has some ability doesn't make them a Daoist. In the west, Daoism has too broad of a meaning. People have taken the image, but not the foundation. Here's a story: Some people from Wu Dang Mountain's Kung Fu school asked Master Xu Shi Xi to teach Bagua for Wudang. He said no, because he isn't Daoist. They said, no problem, we'll give you the clothing, and you wear it, teach Bagua, and travel around with us. Master Xu said, but I'm not Daoist."What if I say something Buddhist?" The "Daoists"of Wu Dang replied, "It doesn't matter. Please teach for us... Answer was no. Because of the manner of commercialism, Daoism has been picked up only by the image of a man, a beard, long robes, or baggy pants practicing Taiji Quan on a mountain: A little flute music in the background...some "profound" standing practices that make you look like you are concentrating, a few good key phrases to get the Wows and Os in the from the crowd, and it will be taken as Daoist. Daoists I know rather not be out there in the crowds teaching to loads of people. They still would rather have that one good student, not out of many, but one, who is willing to stick to principles, adhere to precepts and cultivate his/her ass off till they attain some sort of proper spiritual power. The masters wear ordinary jeans and shirts among the crowds in the streets. Bring no attention to them self nor to any spirritual powers. It is alive and well, but imagery hass taken the attention from quality. Many wouldn't even recognize one, let alone know how to conduct themselves when they meet a real cultivator. I remember when I met Zhang Chang Feng Daoshi. He wanted to see my sword, and I said no. THen his disciples were taken back and asked me if I knew who he is. I said, regardless of his identity, if the sword says no, its no. Then Zhang Chang Feng and I were talking for a time, and the sword agreed. Afterwards, he spilled the beans about him being a Daoist Priest. I told him, no wonder the sword said no...you were hiding something from me. haha We met up some time after for a nice exchange of subtleties, kungfu and qigong. A good man he was. The point being...he walked among the crowd and not one person knew him or his identity. When they found out, they were taken back, and asked for a reading about their life...greed...hahaha Peace, Lin

What is the Most Common Problem on the Minds of Cultivators these days? A question I ask for all you cultivators of the way out here on this forum. What concerns you in your cultivation, which is basically your daily lives? What is most prevalent in your minds throughout the day? What do you all contemplate in regards to your daily life conditions, situations that arise, relationships, family, work, ideas in cultivation? Peace and Blessings, Lin

Internal affects external. External affects in internal. The both are one and the same. Live as though your internal body is external, and external body is internal. Then, live as though neither are internal or external. What's so good about higher levels of cultivation? I haven't heard of any. Stay with your ability to be where you are. That is the highest level for your mind. Wherever anyone else gets to, may not be the most wholesome place...it may be something fun, but probably not for you. Peace and Blessings

Complete relaxation is when there is no energy debt within the body., physically. Mentally, no more outflows. What is an outflow? An outflow is the outcome of the causes we plant in the mind. Cause and effect, an outflow is the effect, and how we perceive it, it will be the next cause. When in meditation, it takes practice to just not discriminate on the states; this is stillness, this is bliss, this is love, this is hell...lol, or even... where my dantian, which one is that? I'm not breathing now, my head is pulsing, mmy crown is expanding, third eye vibrating....etc... all of these things end the state we were on. To keep the mind from pointing the finger, practice this: When walking in the street, or sitting at home, when you look at something, look at it with unknowing eyes. Practice non-discrimination. When a car passes, and your organ of sight beholds it, listen for that voice that says, Car. Then work to recognize it, as well as other discriminating thoughts. After you are somewhat familiar with that voice, control it. When a car passes, or a beautiful girl walks by, etc, breathe in and out with concentration so strong that you have no other place for that thought of Car, or Girl, to pop up. Eventually, you will not be moved by either, and the method of breathing can be put down. Peace, Lin

Recognition of one's mannerisms is a first step to changing one's fate/destiny/karma...what one wishes to call it. Patience is the key. How? In your daily situations, be mindful of your breathing. Perfect conditions you have, for a fruitful outcome. The outcome is thus order. Oder in the manner of when the conditions arise, you deal with them without thoughts of you being too busy. The conditions are what is in your life, and that is what you must have because that is what you set up for yoruself, or you wouldn't have those things that keep you busy. Do not discriminate on what you do, or how much you do, but concentrate on them being done. You will find freedom in your "limitations" and attain a state of calm resolve for your cultivation. If the conditions to do standing or sitting have not arisen, why worry about not doing them? They are not getting done either way. Thus, don't bother. When walking, be mindful of posture, when sitting be mindful of posture and when resting be mindful of resting, but do not contemplate the posture and walking, the sitting and resting. Peace. The Dao cannot be practiced outside of one's daily conditions. It is the ebb anf flow which lead one to realize the middle way. In action, be without clutter in mind; do not ponder what you are doing while doing it. In teaching, do not attach to the outcome; do not seek for fulfillment of expectations. In speech, hold no criticism; pointing the finger reveals three fingers pointing back. It is proper cultivation of Dao(Way when the way is not perceived outside of one's workings. Dao is thus, neither up or down. Childern need a model, and need to be directed in a way where they can make their "mistakes" and own up to the responsibility. If they want things, they can get a job. You wanted children, you manifested the conditions to do so. Teach this principle, and character changes. A parent is a Bodhisattva of the home life. Puts down one's own desires to fulfill those of the household. In such a position, the master resides not in the head of household, but in the application of maturity, reason without criticism, and the teaching of responsibility. Peace and Blessings, Lin

I'm not worried about my mom. She is manifesting her negative karma. I have mine, and living beings have it the same. It comes in all shapes and sizes, forms, smells etc. How we work with our mind in response to these various guests will determine what our outcomes. To really get down and dirty, leave it all, and thrust into the poor and hungry. Come to society eveyr now and then, and go back. Its like cutting out dairy and meats altogether. At first it feels good and you feel light. But every now and then you have a taste and realize how nasty it is...lol For the sake of others, come back and eat a bit of the bitter. Just saying its bitter, its not really bitter, but what most living beings experience, they will call it the bitterness, so we use the term bitter. I haven't met a taste that can sum up the whole existence of living beings. So, I will borrow just for the sake of mixing in. Bitter indeed, sweet as the wind. Peace, Lin

You need to put effort in cultivating. No effort, no "gain". Effort to sit through the pain, discomfort, sift through the mind, utilize patience and right thought... all until it is no longer an effort, but a constant with no non-constant. Giving someone comfort is a great compassion. Even when they don't see it. Your patience is immeasurable. Sickness, though a heavy burden, and a heavy suffering, really isn't such a bad thing. Of course our emotions get in there, along with our wants for the suffering to end, but it is still a process of cleaning out the turbid. No turbidity, no sickness. I live for this world. People's problems are my problems. I too get caught in things here and there in my life which have me utilize strength from cultivation. Without cultivation, I would be long gone already. The conditions around us press us. How we handle that pressure will allow us to turn to diamonds or dust. If we step in to the world and are aware of our causes and conditions of situations we experience, it is good. If not, it is suffering. My mother has M.S. It is such that she lives in Florida, and I can not treat her. It is such that her habits keep her where she is. Patience is golden with situations that are not of our favorable outcomes. When it is time for conditions to change, they will change. In the meantime, offer comfort, be good, and maintain inner calm. When our expectations of how others should be are put down, we can be free from that condition of insatiability. Satisfaction in our desires is permanent when the cause of those desires are put down. Though people may be the same on the outside in behavior, we can be a model for them to change...eventually change. Calm is important. meditation and constant investigating our thoughts, habits of thoughts and speech will plant the seeds of our own clarity to the conditions we face. Thus it is that what we see on the outside which moves us, is a sign of what is inside. We can not be moved unless we have the seeds of attachment to conditions in our mind. Your interests in cultivation are for cultivation. It is the cultivation you have to apply to your university studies. What we face in the world when we are not sitting in meditation, is the teachings which lead us to utilize our skills. We sit, and there is pain...but we are patient, and the pain fades. Thus it is the same when dealing with people, studies, etc. It will pass, just be there, utilize your patience mind until there is no need for patience to be utilized. Soceity has its demands, yet if we fall into those demands, we must check our wants and desires. If our desires reflect that of soicetal living, and it disturbs the mind, then put down that desire. In doing so, because you still have the conditions around you, move through the conditions, but remain unmoved by them. It is in your own cultivation. It is just the mind of preference which only sees it during the time of personal practice. True cultivation is dropping views of a separate time to practice, and doing it all the time. Maybe not holding postures and mindful of energy, but simply the application of patience, that is put to practice, to daily living situations will result in good outcomes.

hahahahaha The non-effort comes when so much effort has been put forth in cultivation. Then, its as easy as pie No hate for patience, no like for patience and no voice in the head to say just be patient, one has truly achieved patience... A wonderful and perfect gongfu partner! Amituofo! Application!

The mind. A metaphor. The senses used to look out... to bring them back in to shine that light on the root causes of things one perceives as their own experience of life. The greatest effort displayed is the effort not forced. Cultivation leads one to attain a state of no effort to get things done. That means when the effort to attain wisdom is put to use in cultivation, that which once seemed difficult is now reduced to the simple act of spreading peanut butter on a slice of bread. Whether its done with a butter knife, spoon, fork, chopstick or even a finger, it is spread nonetheless, and not much went into it. Shining light upon the darkness brings the darkness out more, and makes it scatter to bring itself back. When the light never fades, there is no more darkness, and thus no more light shining. Looks like patience is a friend of yours
