hehe Rooting isn't a mystical thing. Its simple physics and concentration, which develops proper skill to be rooted constantly. When form is mastered, substance and force manifest. Peace, Lin

You probably are talking about the commercial Taiji Quan practitioners out there. Pop- Taiji Quan; study a year, and become masters. As for actual Taiji Quan Martial practitioners, not commercial at all. Very down to earth, and highly skilled. Speaking of which, look up Sifu Rudy Curry Jr. Peace, Lin

Firstly I am not trying to make you believe me. Things I have spoken of here have been researched by people. Just because it is some "bad" things about Tibetan Buddhism doesn't make all the research "communist", wrong, etc. As for believing in what the Sutras teach, it is a shame that in this age people like you will disregard the Sutras because it is in book form. That is just an example of deviant thought. Another way to discredit the teachings that lead to Buddhahood. It is all too common nowadays...one can't get angry at that Secondly, I make no money from my students of the Buddhadharma. As the Dharma is free to anyone, I don't accept money from my students in exchange for the Buddhadharma. You obviously can not see past the words I have written. What a shame, I thought you were a bit wiser. You can decide how I am, how little I know of anything. That is fine. But one can not deny the outcomes of past causes. If one looks at the outcomes, investigates the causes, they will see how situations manifested. Its very simple. I am not one of those people that jump from method to method, different schools of cultivation thinking they will gain something. I stick with what is taught to me, until I can go no further. That is called dedication, and respect for the teachings. I may know very little about Buddhism indeed. Who knows the All of Buddhism...? The Buddha. I am not a Buddha of any shape or size. No one can claim , truthfully, to know Buddhism. If they did, why aren't they enlightened already? Don't believe what I say. But don't disregard the possibility that what I have said may hold some sort of truth. Research it yourself. Do the work yourself, like I have. And when you get results which are opposite from your own education about things, do not run around screaming its all religious, or all communist propaganda. One thing is for sure...If one hasn't been in the place they are talking about, its best to not talk about the place and its people in an authoritative manner. Lastly, America is the last country who holds any authority on what another country is all about. I wouldn't believe a word any one says about any one, or any place. Like I tell all of my students, both of the Buddha Dharma and of English, INVESTIGATE! RESEARCH for yourself, believe nothing I tell you. So I will leave this thread and the forum, again for a while. And you can sit there at your couch like the couch Buddhist you are, and bad mouth me if you wish. I will take it with consideration and investigate my mind as to the possibility that you are already a realized Buddha and know the causes and conditions of my "existence" . If any one else wants to bad mouth me, feel free to do so at my email [email protected] Its always a good show of virtue to stand in front of the crowd screaming your head off, when you can have a decent conversation instead. Peace and Blessings Brother, and All.... lol Lin Ai Wei

haha what a way to turn words around friend. Literally saying, there is a history of the Vajrayana practices being used for money and fame; using sexual desires and practices as a means to make a name for oneself, whether Lama as a monk or not. That just leaves the majority of those seeking proper teachings to sift through a lot more and risk being led to confusion. As it happened, and happens in America, Europe, S.E. Asia, China, Japan...regardless of the tradition of cultivation. Not all Lamas are monks... alright, that I understand. Not all Lamas are Buddhas, not all Lamas are reincarnated Bodhisattvas, and not all Lamas are practicing wholesome Dharma. Same with not all Zen/Chan teachers out there are actually realized beings. Not all Monks and Priests practice celibacy properly. What I speak in reference to Tibetan Lama cultivation, stands with Mahayana and Theravada tradition; Meaning to not sell one's practices, not to claim authority over any Dharma, not to use sex as a method of attaining enlightenment; not to have sex with one's own students and claim it "initiates" them with the proper energy to attain enlightenment, and not to sell abilities as a way to enlightenment. I am not ruling out just one, but all institutionalized Buddhist organizations. The 10 Major and 48 Minor Bodhisattva Precepts lay it all down. The Buddha Dharma was free for all who can comprehend it, who had good roots to receive it. :-) Peace, Lin This is excellent. "From now on, let your meditation not be on the act of seeing, nor on what you see, but immovably on that which sees" This is simply looking at one's original nature, by taking apart the views we hold, and eventually dropping the act of dropping. It is about ending the dual state. Buddha said, "It is difficult to come in contact with things and have no thought of them..................It is difficult to see a state and not be moved by it........" When thoughts arise, do not follow them, but look at the one being moved. It is thus the mind. Peace and Blessings, Lin

Not religious at all, and I was off to teach English. How easy it is to become confused between religion and method. Saying something is Proper and deviant, doesn't make one's words religious at all. Not agreeing with specific mannerisms, doesn't make the one disagreeing a religious person. Besides, religious outlooks can be taken into all accounts of ones own personal views. Its how we use them. I'm not saying that what Padmasambava taught was not the Buddha Dharma. I am saying turning the teachings into an exclusive practice is deviant, as well as charging money for it, and emphasizing sexual practice. It is like this in the Vajrayana tradition nowadays. Lamas selling practices, initiations, and saying that their ways are the fastest, best and most truest dharma. Websites are endless with this. I personally sat with a "Cave Lama" and talked Buddhism with him for 2and a half hrs while his students waited for a sitting with him. After the convo., he offered me to take his lineage to America. First I had to take refuge with Him, not through him. I told him I took refuge with the triple jewel, and that is all that needs to be done. If this is Buddhism, then I have already entered the door. He was taken back, his disciple was angry. The Lama, though a Lama, a monk, was/is very rich. He is a good person, but still holds the tradition of exclusivity. Not for me. Maybe for others. All o four conversations revolve on one thing...how to recognize the proper from the deviant. if there is doubts of the Buddha Dharma in General, of it not being exactly what the Buddha taught, then don't bother with it. Yet, on the other hand, if there is doubt, but diligence in wanting the Dharma, then seek the Dharma with out deluded views of greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance and no sexual desire. Then the proper will appear, and the deviant will disappear. Peace and Blessings, Lin

I never received any thing from Chinese media, though I live in China. Here, the people themselves are like the people of other countries. They work, they have families, and they can do good and bad alike. Nothing is about to implode here. Actually, the people are more together than some other countries I have friends in. Communism isn't propagated in China like people think it is. People aren't walking the streets holding Mao's red book, nor are they waving their fists in the air. Quite the contrary. How China's government deals with the country, is actually mannerisms of Chinese Culture. How various emperors ruled the land...but not so much with a heavy fist as some past emperors. People treat their government here as they treated the government in the past, concerning themselves with the laws and thoughts of the gov., try to work together to maintain some type of stability. In any manner, things are not what they were 40,30,20,10,5 yrs ago in China. They get better every year. The west only see the "mistakes" and it is put up on t.v. everywhere for the world to see. They don't see the good that is done in Chinese society. There is more propaganda about China outside of China, then there is about other countries inside of China. So far, the news I get in China about some things of America actually add up to the reports from Non-Chinese in different countries reporting on the movements of the U.S. Strange. About initiations, all I am saying is that there does not need to be special things added to one's practice in order to attain the Buddha Dharma. Peace and Blessings, Lin

Brother, What pitfalls...dual mind, false thinking, the not changing of one's own habits? Holding back the teachings until "proper" initiation, is just exclusive Dharma, thus it is not the Buddha Dharma. Also, the Buddha Dharma is free; costs nothing, and fitting for anyone. They may accept Mahayana and Theravada schools, but it still doesn't right all the wrongs. Any initiation prior to receiving the Dharma is just the bait and switch method. You don't need to pay for anything, or get charged up before any Dharma to receive the Dharma, at least the Buddha Dharma. Safeguarding people from evils is just what Dharma Protectors do. There is no need for initiations and secret anything. Buddha may have predicted Padmasambava and his methods, but that doesn't make it okay for monks/lamas to have sex with women and men in the name of the Dharma, charge money for the "Dharma", and reserve certain teachings when a student takes refuge with the teacher, and not the Triple Jewel. The Buddha also never approved of statues, images of Buddhas to e made, though he predicted the arising of the Buddha -Semblance Age; Where statues and paintings of the Buddhas of the Ten Directions would become more popular than the actual Buddha Dharma cultivation. I believe that Lama Dharma has developed such a name for itself as an authority on the Buddha Dharma. The truth of the matter is, there is no authority on the Buddha Dharma except the Dharma itself. Peace, Lin

Its still not an excuse for how the Vajrayana school offers exclusive Dharmas. THat is not what the Buddha taught. Peace, Lin

Theravada, Mahayana were all taught by the Buddha. They were different methods for different minds, not one specific mannerism for all minds. In the argument of who is more proper, Mahayana or Theravada, neither are. The fact of their arguing speaks for itself, and the attachment of views they hold, saying that some of the cultivators are themselves not of a clear mind. Its all the Buddha Dharma. If at one stage the Theravada methods assist in putting down views, then use it, until views of self are put down. Given that there are living beings with views who are subjecting themselves to their own causes and conditions, teach them. Here is the Mahayana teaching: Enlighten yourself and then, enlighten others. Its all very simple. As for not truly know if the Buddha spoke the Sutras, attain the Samadhi of Non-Production and you will see/hear the Buddhas of the Ten Directions expounding the Dharma. hehehe Peace and Blessings, Lin This alone speaks of exclusivity. Exclusivity is not Proper Buddha Dharma. It is Lama Dharma. Peace, Lin. Hi Seadog, Check your quote...lol you included your reply in the quote. Its been bolded. Peace, Lin

No different. Its the conditions within the mind which cause the difference of views when experiencing states. Thus the reason why certain things happen in a dream state and certain things happen when not in the dream state. But alsso know that the dream state is said to be a state because one's body is resting and there appears to be an existence of forms and emotions at that time. The waking state is not any different. The only time there would be a true waking state is if the discriminating mind were dropped. Then all states are no states, and there is nothing that needs to be manifest, but is manifest just for the sake that there are those who still hold onto views. Peace, Lin

Yes you are totally correct here and also that in the dream state, our afflictions are more obviously in our faces and easier to see, than in the "waking" state. In the waking state, we view our afflictions as enjoyable, and harmless, but the same afflictions appear in the dream state as extreme situations, demons which appear and harm, emotional craziness, etc. It is more emphasized in the dream state for our intellect is just that much more put down while in that state, yet not in totality. Peace, Lin

It is just as Dao Zhen's cultivation brother explained it. Its just meditation work. With diligent and a well foundation in cultivation, meditation, etc... dreams and waking reality are not different. There would be no distinguishing the two. If a high cultivator is seen to be sleeping, he/she is really not sleeping. Their sleep is meditation. Its neither awake nor not awake. This is why they can do specific things in their "dream states". Its not a mystery, just takes one to meditate: Just meditate, do not get stuck in states, do not be arrogant, greedy and do ignorant things; control your behavior, characteristics. Any sign of attainment is just an outcome and not the highest point. So drop any emotional ideas that there were attainments made in one's cultivation; do not share attainments with others for it breeds arrogance, and ignorance and is the food for attachment to views. Seriously speaking, if one's waking state is full of frustrations and confusions, it is not clear. Why bother with dreams as though they were something different? Peace, Lin

Not at all. How would the Heart Sutra be "out" ? With minds full of doubts, its no wonder why this world is the way it is. Its just confusion; not being able to recognize wholesome from the unwholesome. When you cultivate such methods and your results are wholesome. You won't know until you cultivate them. Or, unless you develop wisdom to know that the words spoken are the efficacious language of the universe. The Sutras are handed down. What the Buddha spoke was memorized by the Venerable Ananda. There is no idea of authorship. The Sutras begin with, "Thus, I have heard..." This leaves out the manner of authorship. Even the Buddha said that he didn't even say a word. The Sutras make sense. Its just that when in our cultivation we become utterly confused, stuck in desire, and lustful that we will have to question the method and the one cultivating it. Another way, is to look at the virtue and wisdom of the teacher expounding the Sutras. If the Sutras are unwholesome, then the teacher would be questionable. Peace, Lin

'no amount of meditation will help you become enlightened.' The Master was describing the attached mind, not the method. It is Chan language. The Master was saying how to not be attached, and too rigid in one's cultivation. The polishing of the stone to make a mirror is significant in symbolizing the mind ground cultivation: The constant investigation of the mind to remove false thinking; desires, lust, discrimination, in order reveal the pure bright mind. Thus the monk was moved by the Master polishing. He was moved to ask. Curiosity arose in his mind for he had not cut off the discriminating mind. He held views about cultivation, and those views resulted in his mind being moved by the polishing. The Master saying : "No amount of meditation will help you become enlightened." meant that because the monk still had a discriminating mind, he had been moved by any one of the eight winds, and thus since he is not still, no amount of meditation will do him any good unless he cuts off his discriminating mind. The 8 Winds are: 1. Praise/approval 2. Ridicule 3. Suffering 4. Happiness 5. Benefit 6. Destruction/devastation 7. Gain (or acclaim) 8. Loss (or bad repute) Peace, Lin

4 Noble truths, Noble 8 Fold Path, Precepts, Samadhi and Wisdom. Can't go wrong, unless one does...lol then its no longer any of them. And in that case it was one's individual causes which influenced the mind to see the deviant. Peace, Lin
