  1. Daoist - Buddhist Nutrician?

:-) I should have been specific... Any animal; on 2, 3, four and 1 leg. insects; any. reptile; any. fish or sea dwelling creature; any. hehe Peace, Lin Unfortunately, for a very very very long time humans have been eating other animals and living beings. Doesn't make it right. Now because of this, the human's have cells that have changed due to this influence of meat, and thus genetically and energetically are structured to want meat. It has become such a habit that people think it to be OKAY.. haha but its not. Its habit and it is this way because of one doing it and reaping the outcomes of it. Who cares who said what and what not to do... Basically eating flesh of any kind from any animal or fish ...even human is not energetically right. It keeps you down, grounded. WHy do you want such affinities with the Earth and living beings for? Are you really a human? "You" live in your house...are you your house? Too much philosophy from books written within the last 100yrs about "Eastern" practices from people who almost touched just the surface and then shaped the western world's perception with it all. Fun. But that's what its about.. getting confused and then getting Un-Confused. Buddha saw it and taught it. So many others do as well. So do Daoist Immortals. And still, there are immortals out there that could care less what people think them to be, "Good or Bad" and just teach things to people to keep them under control. Peace and Blessings
  2. Daoist - Buddhist Nutrician?

Daoists do stay away from meat. After a certain level of cultivation, or right from the very beginning.... TO get to high vibrational levels, meat has to stay out of the diet. :-) Peace and Blessings, Lin

  4. Help with Negative effects of Meditation?

It wouldn't be that Meditation is producing the "negative" affects. It is that the method you are using may not be suitable for you. Meditation is "Death of the Mind" If you are concentrating on a "thing", a "place", "feelings, etc, then you are in deep concentration, and meditation is the action which concentration reveals itself. So it is just what you are concentrating on, not the meditating. Peace and Blessings, Lin
  5. Tao Bums Forum - Growth and development

I agree with you. Random posts in various topics always scatters the foundation of the topic. I hope particular sections can be created to accommodate the various topics and their categories. It would alter the stage of arrogance on these forums, and make room for wise teachings, and proper guidance. Its usual that forums turn into a festival of comparisons... a "bitch-fest" as my Fellow Dharma brother would put it. Peace and Happiness, Lin

  7. Coming to NY in Jan-Feb (already passed)

Greetings Everyone, Feb. 16, 17th is somewhat 3 weeks away. I am now preparing available hotels in Staten Island for those who will be staying for the weekend. I need to know exactly who will be staying in a hotel for Friday night and Saturday night, till Sunday afternoon. Please let me know so I can arrange reservations for the rooms. Also, rooms would be cheaper if some of you share it. Please let me know the price range you can work with. I found 2 hotels already, and their prices were $100-160 a nightly. They have 120$ rooms,. I am still looking for 80-100$ rooms, yet also making sure the area is safe. We may all travel to my gong fu school together, so car pooling would be a plus. If I find another place on Staten Island or at least closer to the Verazzano bridge in Brooklyn, then I'll arrange for it. Let me know Asap... 718-27-5692 (Just leave a message on the machine if I am not there to answer, and or your number with whomever answers the phone. Please tell them your reason for calling) Peace and Blessings, Lin

Does the embassy allow that to actually happen? I never read it through their embassy websites. Pkease, tell me more..haha Peace, Lin The explanation of the Great Compassion Mantra was done by Ven. Master Xuan Hua within the Great Compassion Dharani Sutra. I believe one can still get it from www.drba.org The recitation will be various times during the weekend of the 16th and 17th, in Feb. The whole day will be of meditating, reciting, question and answer lecture, and even qigong cultivation. So whenever you want to recite, it will be in sync.. haha Peace, Lin

The following material is needed for the cultivation weekend. Please, those who will attend, print it out and bring it with you for the Mantra study. Any one else wishing to attend please send me an email at: [email protected] Peace and Blessings, Lin P.S.- There was a mistake on the material needed for the workshop. On the Lines of the Great Compassion Mantra Commentary, Line 39 of the Mantra Lines: It should read, Fa Sha Fa Shen Between lines 38 and 40 on the Commentary: A La Shen Fo La She Li- at this place, for the commentary on the part of the line: Fo La She Li- the explanation should read; enlightened Bodhi Seed. THEN Right after that should be line 39. And that should read: Fa She Fa Shen with commentary; means joyful smiles, great hero, and unsurpassed knight. Please correct that on your copies.

Thank you so much. Any donations can be given in cash. Checks or money-orders can be made out to "Erik Oliva." There is also direct deposit, but I rather be face to face with the person who wishes to donate. Makes things more proper, humble. Any donation goes directly to developing Jing Xin Yuan. I was given a lot of land upstate NY ,and while I am in there, I'll be checking out what the land looks like, and laying out plans for a cultivation center. There is much to do, and I am saving what I can to make this happen. Also, I'm in the beginning stages of applying for a visa for my fiance so we can both live in NY. So when I get back, I'll be working on visa applications as well. So if any one knows about getting a "fiance visa", please fill me in. The government websites are confusing. Lots of other stuff to do. Peace and Blessings, Lin

  15. Daoist cultivation not only consists of textual cultivation, but mind cultivation. People fail to realize that the mind is not formed during one lifetime. It holds successive lifetimes of memories, each influencing one's current life; life style, relationships, etc. Cultivating the mind is cultivating one's Qi. People also fail to realize that there are other influences on one's mind all the times. Whether believed or not, they are out there, in there. These influences are of spirits, ghosts, demons, and even good knowing immortals, gods, dragons and Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. If one's mind/heart is without afflictions, regardless of what cultivation the person is of, religion, the mind will not be disturbed, and there will be no arrogance, arguments of superiority, etc. But if one's mind is full of distinctions, views and the person/living being lives a life of ups and downs without knowing where their mind is, they will be subject to the influence of their own afflictions inner and outer. This is why there is much disrespect, not only in Daoist traditions, but in almost every cultivation tradition. Within Daoism, the influence of ghosts, spirits, demons and gods, good and bad are strong. Because the cultivation of Daoism is of celestial nature, influence from various realms are inevitable. If the mind/heart cultivating is not clear, wholesome, then they will fall into views of arrogance, anger, greed, and ignorance. It happens in many ways, and happens to everyone regardless of their cultivation...even if they are not cultivating. When someone decides to practice, the first thing is to understand the mind. This is to protect oneself from outer influences, as well as ones own personal views and attachments. Without this foundation, the cultivation one chooses will only bring them down in the future. Peace and Blessings, Lin

  17. Dedicated student searching for teacher

HEHE I know. But you were the catalyst for the info I put out.. so thanks..lol Because there are many who didn't know about those questions and what had happened when the Buddha entered Nirvana. Peace, Lin saying "entered nirvana" is just for the sake of saying. You can say he had finished using his physical body for that time period. Peace and Blessings, Lin
  18. Four Unalterable Instructions on Purity http://www.drba.org/online/audio/sutra.asp@CatalogID=15.html Enjoy! Peace and Blessings, Lin P.S.- This is just a reference for those who don't have an outlet for these kinds of teachings.
  19. Four Instructions on Purity

I know. It took a little bit on my part to get past it...lol Peace, Lin
  20. Dedicated student searching for teacher

Right before the Buddha entered Nirvana, he was asked 4 questions by Ven. Ananda, yet it was Ven. Aniruda who came up with the questions. They were as follows; 1). What words to begin the sutras with to extinguish people's doubts on who spoke them. Use these four words, " Thus I have heard..." , and the six realizations to make up the Sutras; faith, hearing, time, host, place, audience. 2). When the Buddha was in the world we lived with him, when he enters Nirvana where should we dwell" Dwell in the four applications of mindfulness; body as impure, contemplate feelings as suffering, contemplate thought as impermanent, contemplate all dharmas as being without self. 3). When the Buddha was in the world he could discipline the bad natured Bhikkshus. After he enters Nirvana how should they be dealt with? Ignore them, don't sit with them, treat them as dispicable. If everyone ignores them they can't do anything no matter how evil they may be. 4). We now rely on the Buddha as our teacher, when you enter Nirvana, who do we take as the master? Take the Precepts as the Master. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- These four questions cleared up all doubts to the assembly of Bhikkshus and Bhikkshunis. So, they weren't so much confused as what to do , as they were sad their teacher entered Nirvana and will not be with them. They weren't so confused as some may think.. Peace and Blessings, Lin

    Which Chinese Characters?
  23. Non-sectarian monasteries

Well, depending on what tradition those monks were part of. I doubt it was Buddhist and or Daoist. Its unfortunate the lay cultivators do not tend to the monks. Yet, its understood why. The left home communities have become egotistical, money hungry...they upkeep the same mentality of the lay people. So a great many Sanghas are not worthy to receive offerings. Peace, Lin
  24. Retention Thread

One can relieve that by inhaling from them and lead to the crown , and on the exhale bring that energy into the Dantian. You can also rub your legs from the back of the sit bones down the hem strains to the ankles. Another way is to do stretching. You can even press along the inner portion of the shins, about 4-5 fingers up from the ankle bone. That would relieve the tension around the testicles. Peace and Blessings, Lin
