What I speak of is spoken of in Buddhist sutras and classics of Daoist cultivation and is the fundamental morale, virtue called Compassion, Wisdom and Patience. It is so easy to see in both these teachings, how can people question these three basic foundations within cultivation? It is because of confusion. I am no authority on anything. Proper teachings are the authority and taking another's life for one's cultivation is not proper anything. Its not hard to see. It doesn't matter if the person is an immortal or not, god or not. I will say it all the same. Why? because living beings should only be regarded by their Virtue and Wisdom, not abilities and cultivation level. Heavenly demons can be immortals, gods, and hold great spiritual abilities, know the workings of the universe and hold some wisdom, wisdom we here on Earth are not aware of. What helps us see them for what they are? Cultivating wholesome practice which are the practices of Virtue; Patience, Compassion and Wisdom. It is both in Buddhist and Daoist schools. What else is wholesome practice? Buddhism, for it is the keys to realizing one's true wisdom and ending the attachments of their mind. It is the keys to a final lifetime, or consciously created successive ones. Buddhism is the teachings to end it all, and or continue, but in Wisdom mind, not ignorance. It is the teachings to not be confused. Daoism gets one to the heavens, where further cultivation is needed regardless of immortality, for immortality is not final. One still has birth and death to adhere to after immortality because there is attachment to form. In Daoism, since it is cultivation of spiritual abilities, and is a mixed bag of methods, there are great possibilities to fall into the demon realms, hell realms of one's mind, and or get stuck without help. One can refer to the time when Buddhism first came to China during the Han Dynasty 67 A.D under Han Ning Di the emperor at the time. and the semi-competition the Daoists masters then put out to the Emperor. Of course, they were jealous of Buddhism, and its cultivation. So the Daoists posed a challenge to prove which one was the proper teachings. Some Daoists could fly, others, shape-shift, some can disappear and re-appear, and do some crazy things before that challenge. The first sutra that came to China was the Buddha Speaks the Sutra in 42 sections. The Daoist leaders at that time were named: Zhu Shan Xin, and Fei Zheng Qing and they had 300-400 of their monk disciples present there. If anyone wants to know the story, research it. Cultivation is not a joking matter, nor is there room for ignorance. One either cultivates to gain wisdom, or don't cultivate at all. My writings may come off as arrogant, and authoritative to some, but that is not my purpose at all. I cannot certify my own understanding to anyone. People have to figure out what I say is true or not by having investigated their minds and realized some wisdom, thus having faith. Peace and Blessings, Lin

Overall, its a form of renouncing Form itself. That which is sought to be maintained, one renounces it, and takes the humble appearance. The baldness is to relieve one of ego, yet many Buddhist monks still hold onto views of self. The long hair in Daoist cultivation is to symbolize, one - a mature, man of virtue; two - well cultivated in the "Fine Arts" as we call it. Buddhists don't regard hair for any symbol. "Fine Arts" being cultivation of body, mind, qi and attaining high levels of cultivation within it through virtue and moral. The arts would be around body cultivation, mind cultivation and energetic cultivation, eventually seeing no separation of them...eventually, yet even Daoists cling to the body too much, and get stuck in forms. Plus, no hair, or having shaved one's head is also a sign of not bearing marks, no attachments. For some people, at a certain time in their cultivation, one response form high virtue and moral and wisdom is that the hair falls out all on its own in one shot. Not to be confused with occasional balding...all in one shot due to cultivation. I've met some Daoisits with no hair. Long hair in the past was a symbol, but now its no longer seen as one. The proof is in the pudding so to say, so many old Daoists are bald, or just have short hair. Also hair was a sign of Yin and no hair, Yang. Lots of hair concealed the Yang. But its all dependant on the mind of the cultivator at all times. Some get stuck on marks, forms. Also, not every Buddhist keeps a bald head, and no beared. Most Buddhas appear with a head of short hair... all depending on how the cultivator can conceive of them. Peace and Blessings, Lin

exactly! Buddhas and Bodhisattvas lay out the methods, living beings do the cultivating .

False, False = True. True, True = False. Tell a false, people believe it to be true. Tell a truth and people believe it to be false.

Hi Harry, I just wanted to clear up something for a lot of people based on what you have wrote. Any disciple of the Buddha is not to kill for ANY means whatsoever. Any Buddha, Bodhisattva, Immortal, God, Dragon, Heavenly Demon CANNOT make any living being leave the wheel of birth and death in ANY manner. If they could, they would have been doing it already and there would no longer be living beings in this Universe. All they can do is teach the methods which result in liberation, yet the cultivator must do the work to realize the result. Now, with that said, I hope there is clarity on the fact that taking the energy of ANY being is called Hei Dao, or the Black Way, the Left-handed path, the Dark arts, also known as Externalist teachings. These ways aren't wholesome. You can't take the words from people who are STEALING living being's energy. That is morally wrong and totally NOT WHOLESOME CULTIVATION IN ANY MANNER! Plus if these animals aren't willing to do it, they are scared! If it was so wholesome, the animals would literally go there personally and sit and die on the spot. But the animals aren't that awakened. Animals have walked into Buddhist and Daoist temples to learn to cultivate the way. On There Own! Walking to Buddhist temples, the tigers don't eat meat, they sit amongst the Sangha and listen to recitations, and sutras and Dharma lectures. That is willingness to leave the cycles of Birth and Death. Also, an Arhat, as David likes to claim those Buddhist Monks are, do not walk on the ground. They are lifted about 2-3 inches from the floor from the COMPASSION they have for living beings. Meaning they will not touch the floor when walking for fea of crushing ants and grass, and other little things that live. No Arhat would kill others for money and for benefiting their cultivation. It is the First Major Bodhisattva Precept, and that should point directly to what is not proper and what is. People, make no excuse that precepts are man-made, blah blah blah It is cultivation, not religious views. There is no need to get confused with what anyone says about taking bulls. It is simple ... It is wrong and a great display of Demonic behavior. Peace and Blessings Merry Christmas! Lin P.S.- I was attacked by a Bull over the summer in the country side out here, and I didn't have to kill it to make it stop and walk away after it charged at me full force. No violence needed whatsoever. If there are cultivators killing animals to survive, they have to check their level of cultivation. Peace and Blessings my brothers and sisters.

Ok..its an anology for modern times, not ancient ones..lol (Can't believe I'm going to explain this..lol) The inner roll of the toilet paper is cardboard. It keeps the paper from flattening out, and gives it its function of "rolling" when pulled on. Also it doesn't flatten, yield, extremely when no roll is in the center. A more ancient analogy? Taiji Quan and Qigong are of the same substance. Taiji is cultivated in Qigong, add a fist form and you have a "Taiji Quan" Taiji Quan without Qigong is just "Quan". Maybe that one is more fitting Peace and Blessings Lin

I learned Qigong with my Taiji Quan cultivation from my Sifu. Taiji Quan without the practice of Qigong within it is likened to a toilet paper roll without the cardboard roll... The rest you can figure out Peace and Blessings, Lin

Even good things, for some make them feel bad. It would be a whooooole other thread, and though has, it never got as deep as this. The reason why even "good" things bring people uncomfortable situations, is their Karma. Though it may not be "bad" that they feel bad, it is just results from past causes having the proper "vehicle" at the moment to manifest. Just elaborating on the Karma part: There are times when any type of medicine can't help the patient get better. This is one of those times when regardless of the manner of medicine, it is the person's karma which cannot be changed at the time. far-fetched? I told this story before; In a monastery here in China, Jin Ning Si, there is an old lay woman app. 95yrs old. Skinny, and small, lovely lady. She broke her leg while getting off of the bench in the cafeteria. She didn't cry, or even ache in pain. She simply stayed in "right mind" and the other lay cultivators there helped her to her room. Begging her to go to the hospital she refused. She simply recited Namo Amitabha Buddha throughout the hold day, as she has always done. And her leg healed extremely fast, without a cast and without pain killers, x-rays, no medical attention whatsoever. She walks around now, though has a wheelchair and sits in it, she pushes it around the temple for exercise. I have seen people with really bad cancer get cured and others not. Not the same medicinal formulas either. Karma has a big part, like the total part, of how we get cured from sickness and how we stay diseased. In terms of retention, I haven't heard of any problems from those cultivating it that I know. They must be doing something right. BUT there are those who aren't clear on how to do this, and there is the problem. So, YES there are problems with retention if it is done incorrectly, with improper guidance. And it is unfortunate that there is much more of the incorrect than correct out there. So there is the question, which guidance is proper/improper. No pains in the groin, kidneys, urethra. No night emissions (but this goes together with no porn and watching sexual desires as well, AND no sexually stimulating of oneself, nor letting on e do it for you.. haha). I like your reasonings. Very great points you make. Peace and Blessings, Lin P.S.- the karma part though really for another thread, just needed to be a bit cleared up since I referred to it.

Hi There, Its possible there is a misunderstanding, as I never asked the question if he was cult-ish, nor have I accused him of being so... Peace and Blessings, Lin

If one is cultivating properly there shouldn't be a problem. It is true patients don't cultivate, that's why I don't choose to see many patients. To be sure one is cultivating properly, night emissions wouldn't occur really...this is in regards to retaining and cultivating by changing thoughts, views of sex and lustful desires. Monks don't cultivate so well these days as well, so not many are great examples, but there are many who are. There are some who lived to 120, 130 and who are not even sleeping who retain. But they are cultivating constantly. A good sign of proper retention is younger skin, less health problems, more energy, not tired when waking and no problems trying to go to sleep, as retention can up one's energy level. It isn't easily researched, you are right on that, especially because of the many taboos on cultivation in general, even more so with sexual energy cultivation. Yet those I know who hold fast to retention practice have not had any health problems. Their side effects are high energy but with their cultivation, those things are utilized to control the "too" much energy from retention. Because the many practitioners out there learning different views from so many books and teachers, it does make it difficult to know exactly what is proper. A good way to find out is to try it, and monitor one's mind, behavior, and health all the times. Look for the ebbs and flows and cultivate to not be caught in the ebbs and flows. Not many can do it. It is possible because of this that there are many cautions on the retention practices. Peace and Blessings, Lin

It would be fun to have a multi language forum...lol

I'm sorry that you got offended my friend. Though I was writing to Song Yong Dao specifically, it would be a good way for some on this forum who are studying Chinese to practice as well. Peace and Blessings, Lin

There is no problem with retention if one is cultivating. Doctors don't cultivate, and most Chinese Medicine Doctors in China don't cultivate either. I have met some Doctors of CHinese Medicine in both America and China, who are Chinese, that don't even believe in Qi. Many "dangers' spoken of in Qigong are towards those who can easily be fooled by others who either are out to hurt people, and others who also have no clue what they are doing. Proper cultivation is by no means harmful. It is warnings such as "retention is harmful..." that make people confused, especially to those who are new to cultivation. Peace and Blessings, Lin

Just basic leg stretches would suffice

Natural Qigong I always likened it to a manner of Shen Gong (็ฅๅ๏ผBecause it is without discriminating thoughts, based on intuitive, spiritual "mind". Peace and Blessings, Lin

Spending a year to learn? It shouldn't take that long at all. Stretching exercises and diligent practice will guarantee within a month or two to get into full lotus. Its very much worth it. When the pain starts, thats where the patience cultivation begins! Peace, Lin

The left leg is Yang , the right leg is Yin. It is again the balancing of polarities... The left leg on the right thigh, the right leg on top of the left. Yin over the yang to control the yang. The full lotus is equivalent to a golden pagoda. The half lotus is equivalent to a sulver pagoda and the basic cross legged position is equivalent to mud. I don't recall the full exact account of the story, but it goes somewhat like this... There was once a monk who liked to perform ceremonies for funerals. He was a very tricky man I believed, and not many people liked him. He once found that there was not much to do, so he decided to go sleep under a bridge. He then heard ghosts around him and got scared, so he sat up in lotus position, full lotus. Afterwards the ghosts came to his area and saw a golden pagoda, a great golden pillar so to say. They thought to themselves it must be a Buddha or a great cultivator, so they began to bow to it, not realizing it was the monk. After a long time of bowing, the monk's legs grew in pain, unbearable, an dunable to hold the full lotus, the monk slipped into half lotus. When the ghosts looked up they then saw a silver pagoda and thought how strange the golden pagoda changed to a silver one. Strange indeed they thought. But they still bowed. Then the monk's legs grew in more pain and he then slipped to a basic cross-legged position. When the ghosts looked up they noticed a pile of mud sitting there. They then thought how disgusting that they were bowing to mud, and they left. From seeing the ghosts leave, the monk awakened to the way, and diligently cultivated afterwards. Full lotus is very powerful, and cuts through defilements. Peace and Blessings, Lin

Very true about the prostate cancer. Releasing actually weakens the prostate gland. Have fun! Peace, Lin

There is no danger in retention. It is only said to just to get people to waste themselves, get confused. and was written by confused people. Monks retain till they physically die...no problems with them now. Daoists and Buddhists alike are taught not to release. Releasing means death, retaining means life. The human body is to retain things it needs. It is because of people getting attached to lust that they make excuses to release their fluids. People can argue and say its natural to release, but who really claimed that excuse? THe body itself is natural, there is no real separation between that which people think is unnatural and that which is natural. THey are both the same. People like to make distinctions to fulfill their own habits. Simply don't release, and you will gain proper wisdom, be able to control desires, emotions, thoughts..basically you will be in the control seat. But release and your lust, emotions, desires take control, ad make excuses as to why its "okay". There is nothing positive about releasing. f you can't do it, that means that before you sexually stimulated yourself, and released you never had the urge to release. Once you felt that feeling of releasing, it ingrained in the mind as something desirable and thus it was always sought after. The feeling of releasing is an obstacle which results in many more obstacles. It is all natural because it is of the mind, there is nothing unnatural about what is in the world. People love to distinguish with what they think is natural and not. All things are made of the elements. Therefore they are natural. What is done with them may not be wholesome, and that is shown through behavior, emotions, which is all mind anyway. Its the same with anything that is really good for you. There will be another who says its not, and this will create confusion, and separation and thus two sides to the coin when in actuality there was only No Side. There is nothing wrong with retention, because if you are not releasing, then there is no retention. The simple thought of holding back creates the mind that there is something that can be released, and thus results in confusion, and internal dialog about which one is right. Emotions get involved, lust, views, influence from friends, books, etc. All of this get people confused. If people really want to know the benefits of retention, Cut off lust so you can see clearly. Peace and Blessings, Lin
