  1. Interview with Lin's Master

When I first met him, he was floating in my cultivation brother's guest bedroom doorway. I smiled, and he just watched for a few while I went to bed. The next morning I told my cultivation brother, and he showed me a pic of a monk, and I recognized him as the monk from the night before. Ever since that day, I felt the Master's presence behind me. For almost 2 weeks he followed me and then through mind to mind communication told me to do several things needed for cultivating the way, and then, well, he was my Shifu. I still receive teachings from him. Very humbling, very humbling indeed. Peace and Blessings, Lin
  2. Ask Lin: What is proper meditation?

"Was your encounter with your master a "when the student is ready the master will appear" situation?" Well, when I met the Ven. Master Xuan Hua, it was the case of being ready to go on to the next level, and thus he appeared, literally. In terms of my Quan Zhen Dao Shifu, I knew her from constantly meditating at the Daoist temple at the foot of Tai Shan (Tai mountain) at Tiger Mountain Park. The temple is called Wang Mu Chi. After a few years, we both kind of brought it up, student/teacher question, and actually our decision was based on her asking Lu Zu Ye ( Lu Dong Bing ). "What is your take on this kind of obstacles in sittings?" They arises and do not arise. Obstacles are anything which takes us and throws us all over the place, not being able to be still, filling the senses like an overflowing cup. Once that light is turned in, the senses are purified, and the obstacles eradicated, non violently. Obstacles in sitting are the obstacles in walking, are the obstacles in lying, are the obstacles in eating. Same mind, different task. If we play into the obstacles; thoughts, emotions, memories, sensations, and visions, then we have failed at meditation at that time, we became eaten by our own mental obstructions. In meditation just watching the mind isn't enough. There has to be a sifting through, an investigating to actually get any real results. One can meditate and pull in energy from all over the place, any place. They can even travel to different places and bring back stuff, if they have that much of the ability. It is all of mind and concentration, wisdom. So, in sitting, what arises would be an obstacle, but attaching to it as an obstacle is an even bigger obstacle...lol At first, its good observe whats there, then begin investigating the mind. Unraveling the emotions, situations and attachments to them. Taking layer and layer of the face we pasted mind to over endless amounts of lifetimes, and then, we can begin to develop the land to prepare for the realization of the fruit. Good questions Peace and Blessings, Lin

The lotus posture is a Vajra posture, cutting through that which defiles, one will always be unmoved to an extent, given certain conditions, while sitting in lotus. Many disregard it as just another posture to sit n, but it is a very powerful position indeed. One just only needs to investigate their mind in the Vajra seating position (Lotus) and Thus. 8. Jing and Qi transformation from which to which?

Jing , Qi, Shen. Jing hua Qi. Qi hua Shen. Shen huan Xu. = San Hua Jv Ding. Jing changes to Qi. Qi changes to Shen. Replace weakness(xu) with Shen. Once this is complete, one has completed all three Jing Qi Shen, they all transform to complete the transformation of each other, and rise to the top of the head; Ding= top. Yet, it also refers to the cultivation of Ren Mai, Du Mai, and Zhong Mai. Zhong Mai (middle channel) is the channel going directly from the hui yin to the bai hui, and it is inside the body, in the middle of it, as a straight line up and down. After much cultivation, energy doesn't only flow from back to front, but in all directions once these three channels have been cultivated extensively. San Hua Jv Ding. Peace and Blessings, Lin
  9. Ask Lin: What is proper meditation?

I see I may have mis-read and misunderstood some of the question. Before Shifu came to me, I was a bit arrogant, hot tempered, impatient, and dealt with ghosts and demons daily...meaning places I went, there were constant occurrences with beings trying to steer me in the wrong direction, as well as battle so to say, energetically. I used to deal with fighting ghosts and demons constantly for many years, this is why I carried my sword all the times, and this led me to be a bit arrogant, impatient, hot tempered, and not so compassionate. I had failed to put down my ego, and it hindered my cultivation greatly. Qigong cultivation was no problem, but that is not the end all be all. Despite the things I have done, experienced, and can still do. Those things are only outcomes of practice, and not complete skill. He teaches me still, and now I delve into the sutras for techniques of cultivation with his guidance. Meaning, I read a sutra and figure out the method used to cultivate the teachings within them. He taught me acceptance of all living beings, in any shape and form, patience with other people, how to put down anger and cultivate humility. The practices were bowing to the Buddhas, taking refuge with the Original Mind, also known as the Three Treasures; San Bao; Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. Meditation techniques were various, and some included contemplating the causes and conditions of my experiences, investigating through meditation the origins of my attachments to my character/personality; searching for the origin of my emotional experiences. Also techniques of seeing things as though they are not there, and work on not being moved in mind by them when they arise. These methods helped me to be still, and realize all things as empty. So that all that which arises is only said to arise, but neither arises nor does not arise. You see, the methods in Buddhism are by no means religious. They are techniques to recognize the mind, and all things that arise within it, even the mind itself. Buddhism is strictly a way of Cultivation of the mind, which is mind, body and spirit...if one wants to see it that way. Through his teachings, I learned how to be human, and humane. Not be angry, not be greedy, and to recognize the ignorance I had within my own mind. The methods overall, are so numerous, because the mind has numerous attachments. With all I experienced I could be writing here for years and years, expecially with all the techniques that arisen because of my own affliction. As a result, some, mind is still, clear. I can recognize the beginning and ending of emotions in realization that there is no beginning and ending, no rising and falling, no duality. And the cultivation still continues. I don't deal in fighting with demons, subduing them, nor do I bother with subduing ghosts and the like. Now I welcome them and teach them, accept them and use their influence, in trying to make my mind waver from the proper, to keep my mind still. There is a saying that goes, When there is true cultivation, demons are not far behind. That means when you are on the right track, more and more obstacles arise. THese obstacles are there to help you recognize what is in your mind, and in so recognizing them, one can put them down. Awaken to Non Dual mind. I know some of what I write referring to ghosts and demons seem far fetched for some. I m being very honest with you in my writing this stuff. For this is a thread inquiring about some of my history. I understand there may be things written that are not easily believable, and I can not by any means prove to anyone what I have experienced because not many can see what I see. My history by no means claims I am an expert, nor does it point to mastery of any kind. Only experiences. Through them, I matured. And now my life is only about cultivation. Day and night. Early morning to late evening and when I am resting this body. I hope this explanation serves you well. If not, please rephrase the questions so I may satisfy your curiosity. Sometimes I may misread and misunderstand what you are looking for. I appreciate your patience. Peace and Blessings, Lin
  10. Retention Thread

Great points, good guidance! It is as such, change one's views about that which they experience. Then, both the experience and experiencer disappear and the true substance comes into view. Peace and Blessings, Lin
  11. Buddha speaks!

And the third monk, who wasn't a monk yet, was the Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng. He was already the Patriarch, but not a left home person at that time. It was after that incident that the head master of the temple came out and met with Hui Neng. THen they prepared his leaving the home life, and shaved his head. Peace and Blessings, Lin

  13. Ask Lin: What is proper meditation?

What a wonderful explanation of meditation.
  14. Ask Lin: What is proper meditation?

Good question! Before I arrived in China, I was cultivating since 8,9yrs old formally, meaning regularly, daily. At age 18, 19, I began creating views of what China would be like. Before that age I never gave China a thought. I imagined China to be a place of virtue, and character, moral and respect. Ofcourse, I was ignorant to many things and decided that was China through the movies, and philosophers that came out of there, not to mention the cultivation...lol When I arrived at the airport in China, it wasn't at all what the movies showed, nor was it at all what was depicted in the books by ancient philosophers; I never read heavily about Chinese culture, or philosphers of China, but I knew what the lifestyle of China was through friends(Chinese) and paintings of old China. I truly didn't realize that China changed so much. I was in culture shock... In shock that the culture I left was the culture I returned to! I was devastated for about 6 months. People making fun of me, laughing and cursing at how I looked because I wore robes, Chinese ones, I carried a sword on my back, for dispelling evils...lol seriously, and every where I went, there were cars driving recklessly, people not caring for each other if they were hurt in the streets, bikes and pedestrians just pushing their way, oblivious to the next person. And the pollution, smoking.. Unbelievable! That was my hell. I never left my home. Cursed them till days end, and stayed depressed every day at what had become of China. No culture amongst the city people, country side was getting close, but still has humility and humanity..to an extent. Out here people dress in fashion and expensively to go to KFC. They cream over anything that looks western, "modern", and try to fit into an image of what development and modernization should look like...which is exactly like the western countries. I was so sad. Especially when I finally realized that they disregard their own Medical Science...Chinese Medicine. People are disbelieving it, because they are brainwashed by commercials. They overload themselves with everything we have in the west...simply because it is "modern". This is when I almost decided to leave, in jan of 2005, I was ready to take off and quit China. Then I felt this overwhelming pity for everyone here. I realized that it is a great place to learn to cultivate. Deciding to stay it out, I kept investigating the anger thoughts, and everything I felt, all my views about China and Me. THen I met my Shifu of Buddhism, Master Xuan Hua. And from that point, everything changed. All my views began to fall away through constant investigation into their natures, which were none, meditation even moreso, and eating more of the bitterness of what is considered bitter in this world. After that, up until this past summer I was up and down, in and out of the views I once held. This summer was a break through, and the last of them towards my views since childhood up till I arrived in China. There is patience that is unmoved, Compassion for them all, and all thoughts are no thoughts now. I teach my students how to change themselves, their views and control their emotions..they are young..17,18, 19. I use English as the vehicle, and they are awakening. That is the story behind my cultivation in China, and taking the conditions around us as the catalyst and method for dropping them. All of that was cultivation developing Patience, Compassion and Wisdom. I have so many stories of what was experienced, In the Martial Arts World, to Chinese Medicine World, to daily living and Government. Now all is finally still. Quiet. Work, simple... only 16hours a week, but cultivation never stops. Enjoy!!! haha Peace and Blessings, Lin

  18. Daoism in China

I know of a Yin Style Bagua Master out in Beijing... One of the Best in China I would bet anything on it. When I mean Bagua, I don't mean just form. It is application of body and mind/intent/will. The man knows his stuff, teaches Qigong as well. Very good stuff. His name is Xu Shi Xi, and teaches out in Tiantan Park. 100rmb a day for 4-6 hours training daily. He is a straight forward man, and humble as well.. to an extent..lol meaning when he is hitting you, it isn't humble...for him. My own Bagua teacher learned from him, and one of my close friends is studying with him. http://www.xushixi.com/en/index.asp Peace, Lin
  19. It is great! Only thing is the translation needs a bit of work, for there are some things that don't mix well with the cultivation they are explaining in that Sutra. It just seems there to be a slight contradiction in mental posture. For instance it speaking to not hold onto thoughts and the like, but then mentioning to get lost in them...not really advisable. Anywho... Soon , if I have the time, I'll work on a re-translation and or wording of it.. haha Peace and Blessings, Lin
  20. scripture of forty nine chapters

Not remember the original mind, but reveal it, which has been covered by our own thoughts and attachments.
  21. Anthroposophy and the dual forces of evil

I see now. Actually, with Buddhist cultivation, the only evil is that made of one's own mind. That means even the evil acts put upon someone...all of that wsa created in their mind, and not from only one lifetime. The evil forces are only expressions of that made through mind, and they may come in manners like demons, or other beings. There is the name for the manner of evil, and it is called Mara. But evil forces even oppose themselves due to a greater feeling of superiority. Write more later.. :-) Peace and Blessings, Lin
  22. The Monks of Burma (Myanmar)

Of course violence is not the way to go, yet there are times when conditions may be right to smack someone across the head to wake them up from dreaming. lol My father was big on politics, and introduced me to "alternative" methods of educating myself..lol..in terms of government, society and the like. It is important for cultivators of the way, in the modern times with modern advancements, to utilize these advancements well, and wholesomely. By knowing both sides of the political coin, we can learn how society is manipulated, and how the people within it follow mindlessly. After such realization, without emotionally attaching to the anger and frustration which does arise, one figures out ways to teach people by example, and or see the mental conditions of people, and use them to steer their focus a bit away from every day desires and attachments, to something a bit more...beneficial..relatively. I don't believe any thing right a way, but I look into what is presented by observing the way law become interpreted, how people become more confined into their own desires and thoughts...and then I find what Alex Jones is saying to be factual..but facts to me are conspiracies to another.. hahaha Twin Forces of evil....relatively, there are many forces of evil out there. Maybe further explanation of your meaning in another thread would be great! Peace and Blessings, Lin
  23. scripture of forty nine chapters

Great reference, Thanks! You know, people really think Buddhism to be some limited religious practice. It is far from that when tradition is stripped from it. Cultivation is what it is. To the heavens, any and all realms, planets, worlds, star systems... For those with discriminations, they are all billions of miles away.... But they are all on the tip of a hair...close than once thought..... Buddhism is just called Buddhism for living beings o recognize and focus on that which directs to the cultivation of the way and the attainment of their original mind. Daoism without the politics within itself, because it is there, and ego...is cultivation of the way, and attainment brings one to the heavens...which further cultivation is needed. Peace and Blessings, Lin
  24. scripture of forty nine chapters

What a wonderful post here Mat! The first part where The Jade Emperor says: "When I was living in the mundane world, I made contributions to the world, and then when I ascended to the heaven, the gods of heavens announced my merits." This time was when he had a woman's body, and saw a statue of Guan Shi Yin Pusa uncovered, and getting damaged in the rain. She, a she at the time, gathered several villagers and put money together to build a small temple to protect the statue. The merit and virtue attained from that act resulted in becoming the Jade Emperor, in the Heaven of the 33. The other villagers all resulted in becoming gods of the other heavens surrounding the 33rd heaven, also known as the Triastrimsa Heaven. One of the Desire heavens, and the highest one, or just the 33rd one. There is no hierarchy amongst the heavens in ego, but by virtue and merit. The Jade Emperor is also known as , Yin Tuo La Ye (Chinese transliteration of the Sanskrit Indra in the Brahman religion), als known as Shakra, and still goes by many names and is the Gods of the Abrahamic religions; Catholicism, Muslim, Jewish. Peace and Blessings, Lin
