Hey!! I wrote the same thing with the ritualistic use of the smoke.. haha While I was writing you were too...so funny. Peace and Blessings, Lin

Actually... I am very un-religious, and my practices are old school. Meaning non-ceremonial and strictly intuitive based, strictly cultivation. In other words, just because one doesn't burn plants and smoke tobacco, doesn't mean they can't do what shamans who do burn things do. There were warrior cultivators out in Africa and Jamaica who would put the Native Americans to shame in cultivation sense, and they would not touch cigarette smoke.. maybe some on a lower level would smoke weed..but that lower level to those who don't cultivate is a high level One last thing my brother, I never brought any religious methods into this board. It just so happens that people form the idea of what religion means. And that itself is a big cause of a lot of problems. On another note.. there is no good in cigarettes. It was formed for mass production to kill people. It is a good way to control people, make business to medical industries and cause people to remain deluded. A βreal shaman" will not hurt their body, and or put toxins in it . Their uses were only for rituals, not constant like today's habits. When you can transform your body, then do what you like. We can get "shamanic " on this board, but I highly doubt such things will be understood. They must be experienced, and guided properly or one gets stuck in states and then.. crazy. So, what images do we all have of "real shamans"? Leaf underwear, feathers, drums, dancing and yelling, chanting, trances, etc...? Is that what a Shaman is? A "real shaman?" Those are only cultural methods. Tools are not as important as the cultivator. I know a Shaman in NY. He wear jeans and a t-shirt, sometimes shoes. A vegetarian, millionaire, doesn't smoke...a bit chubby, good talker, and sometimes commercialist, but only does so to give people an outlet to learn. Don't screw up the body before it is transformed...afterwards, you drink what you will, smoke what you like...just don't expect there to be a desire or a function for them. There is no excuse to put toxins in the body. I don't want to see you hurt yourself and your cultivation. Here is something : When one starts getting high in cultivation, moving up, spirits, ghosts, demons crowd around them, follow them try to make them fall. They use any method the cultivator found themselves faulty in..addictions, emotions, memories, depression, food, sex, anything. Is that a Shamanic problem or a Religious one? Shamanism, though very high in cultivation, is still not the ultimate. They can reach realms far beyond a normal person, and see that which ordinary people can't, but they are not ultimate. A great level they do reach, but not the highest. Not easy to reach that level and still be sane. Many tried but only few have the capacity to withstand the pressures, responsibility and karma of it. Peace and Blessings My Brother. I so deeply, and sincerely wish you to have a healthy body, attain enlightenment and continue from there. Lin

My mother had smoked, her father smoked, my father's father smoked , my elder sisters smoke one of which lives a life of confusion and the other ...pretty much the same, grandmother smoked. Only my father didn't smoke. From 9yrs old -20 yrs old I smoked. The day I turned 20, I put down the cigarettes for good, never went back. Now I am in China... It is one Gigantic Cigarette. It is very possible they never bothered to see whether it was good or not. Only use it as means to connect with spirits, ghosts, demons. Unlike the Indians, the Daoists had their own cultivation and didnot utilize outside methods to communicate with spirits. If they used a sword, horse tail whisk, wine, etc.. they had to have cultivation within them already, or nothing would work. Same with Buddhists. The Indian's living conditions environment and mind were totally different from this world as we have it today, and every person on this planet as well. One may get insights in deep concentration, but that is due to deep concentration. All the Indians weren't enlightened beings, they were just highly wise..but that is due to mental concentration, and overall Karma. They were more closer to the Earth and more aware of spirits than people in this world are today. THey recognized the influence spirits and deomns play on living beings, and knew how to recognize them. Can anyone on this board do so without doubting themselves and their abilities? Their living conditions, and mind were not the way the people of the world are now. It is totally flipped now a days. We can't have our cake and eat it too. Smoking does make one more Yin. Smoke is almost equivalent to the Yin of spirit realm. So utilizing smoke, if the person doesn't have the abilities within them already, would give more of a chance to communicate with spirits, and even be influenced by them. That doesn't make someone enlightened, only skillful in this method of communicating with spirits...lol People actually believe what they see. Isn't that amazing? Peace, Lin P.S.- Smoking is strictly a killer. Anti- Man

haha Smoking is just not healthy at all. Just because Indians do it doesn't mean its okay for others to do it. And a Zen master smoking??? Regardless of what Max Shifu says, smoking only harms the body and energy. People may call certain cultivators masters, but that doesn't mean that these masters are indeed...masters of anything at all. People tend to hype everything up, and the man they hype up sits and tries to fill the shoes. I have met many "masters" here in China and in the U.S. Unfortunately, they are subject to ignorant people who call a chicken a duck, just because the chicken wears duck's clothing. Good luck. Common sense is, smoke will harm the body and energy and affect the mind. No getting around it. You have an addiction..drop the addiction and you will not have the desire to smoke.. on any level. Simple. No master who says smoking is alright is leading someone on the right path. Sorry.. even if Buddha turns to me and says hey, smoke a cigarette, it helps reach bliss... I will by no means listen. For one thing, a Buddha would not do that. So, I wouldn't be steered into that direction. A person who has abilities doesn't make them an authority on another's own common sense, logic and reason. Abilities may be high for some, but for those who have them, they are just child's play. If one wants to attain real, actual pure enlightenment, everything you see and are addicted to, everything you feel so strong for.. let it go. No other way. No qigong will do it, no transmission of energy will do it... just simply let go. Any desires for anything is a sign that one is not there yet. Proper cultivation is not with intoxicants. End of story. Peace and Blessings, Lin P.S.- I care about your cultivation, and am simply talking direct to you, not in anger, but in concern. Don't believe the hype too much, or you will get yourself confused.

Don't smoke please! It is going to keep you on one level and you will not go any further. Smoking keeps your sicknesses in the body, it doesn't matter if it is pure tobacco or with the over 4,000 chemicals. Peace, Lin

They're charging for classes?! Last I heard they were supposed to be for free. People can attain benefits in anything they do, especially if their intention is proper. Over time, things may change with imposing other views on oneself. That is where it can, and usually does, go wrong. By all means, if you feel strong affinity to go and cultivate it , do so, but stick to the qi gong postures, and basic breathing. Drop any views they have in their teachings. Stick strictly to Daoism and or Buddhism. Peace and Happiness, Lin

AH!!!! It should be 16 and 17 hahaha Saturday and Sunday... I HAVE RE-EDITED THE INFO Peace, Lin Feb. 16 and 17 .. weekend.. haha Anywho.. If we have about 6 people, it can be at my home. But I believe it will be more people, and so I will rent a small hall.. in either Staten Island, or Brooklyn. I could use my Gong Fu school in Brooklyn, but it would be cold for there is no heating system, only propane heating...which is very loud, and when shut off the heat lasts about 30 mins. Not fun.. and its a gongfu school...not a good place to do what we are doing. The closest airport is Laguardia and its about 25 mins from my home.. should be.. haha If anyone is flying in for the 2 days, let me know by Jan. I will prepare a hotel close to my home, nothing expensive believe me. Flying in should arrive by friday, and I will arrange to pick you up at the airport. The meeting is not going to cost any one anything. I'm not doing this for personal profit. Just a service. I'm not representing any cult either... haha Peace, Lin -
hhaha It is a practice that results in ultimately helping yourself in the end. The end is based on the cultivator's mind. He/she can only help those beings which he has affinities with, or better stated...can only help those within his mind. So, my running in front of a car to push you out of a way may kill this body, but because I was at a stillness with what I was doing, neither discriminating there being a me and a you, it itself is a cultivation method which thrusts one into awakening. Its not selfish, and I wouldn't run in front of any random car for the sake of good results..hahaha If you see the conditions, and have the capacity to work with them, then it is your duty, based on your own mind. Peace, Lin hehe good question... One can only help those who are of their mind. Therefore, when a vow is taken that one will n ot enter nirvana until all living beings do so first, that is basically saying all living beings of the person's mind. That means, if all I have compassion for is my family, then they are all living beings. But since my compassion is not mine alone, it is to everyone I meet, for they become in my mind at that point. There is no really entering Nirvana. It is just said to be so for the perception of leaving one state of mind and experiencing another passes within mind and thus builds the view. Certain words are used just to describe the function. Peace, Lin Ah yes... Crossing is just a term used to describe the transforming of one mind to another. Kind of like here we are on a barren land, and we have a boat, on the boat we sail to another shore, and that shore is with trees, and grass, etc. Literally a big difference. Since there is a difference in mind through cultivation, it is like being in a whole new land so to say. Though you may remember the past, you are not controlled by it. Peace, Lin

Well, about the qi gong, there is a state of mind within their qi gong that is distinguished as Falun Gong. So if you can separate the energy of that state from the postures, practice it. But I would say , don't even bother. Reading one sentence of any Buddhist Sutra would have more lasting results than any amount of time practicing Falun Gong. Peace and Blessings, Lin

Oh, but Daoist and Buddhist are only labels. In the cultivation of certain results, the methods leading to an enlightened mind, free to come and go as they please, may manifest in any form. Some methods which are labeled Daoist are similar to some which are labeled Buddhist, and vice verse. The origin of both are the same, the methods of both are similar in function to an extend, and to that extent the realization may be on two different levels. BUT... Cultivation is just cultivation. In other words... Chinese, American... we are all people...no? Peace and Blessings, Lin P.S.- I was brought up as a child with Daoist cultivation, am a disciple of Quan Zhen Daoist school. I became a disciple within Buddhism later on in my yrs. My teachers though are of both Daoist and Buddhist schools respectfully. That means, they are not hybrids, but complete Daoist and complete Buddhist. I simply arrived at a shore where cultivation is simply cultivation. The mind is that which concludes which method is more effective. Some from here may work, some from there may work. In the end, the distinguishing of which is what must be dropped. At that point, it doesn't matter what is Daoist or Buddhist... just as long as one attains complete wisdom.

The plan for our cultivation meet in February 2008 is attached in this post. It may change, but I think it looks good for now. Your thoughts please Peace and Blessings, Lin MADE CHANGES... THE DATE!!! FEB 16 - 17 JXY__Cultivation_Meet_Feb_16_and_17_2008.doc -
One will attain what they place in their mind. You can view the mind like the ground, and your outcomes are what come from it. So if you put ...lustful thoughts, you will attain lustful outcomes. Depending on how long you hold those thoughts decides how strong your outcome affects you personally. How you react personally creates more outcomes. Instead of cutting off our reactions, views and feelings, thoughts towards what we experience, we living beings usually add more to the outcome thus resulting in more and more outcomes. Those outcomes are dependent upon our views, thoughts, feelings of what we are experiencing. Peace, Lin

There are many principles in the book that are not proper. Qi Gong cultivation is fine, but the foundation of what their system is preaching does not lead one to pure enlightenment. Their principles do not result in wholesome outcomes ultimately. Its outlawed in China because the practitioners of it became political, also because they, with qigong practice, did not need hospitalization during their time with serious sicknesses. That means less and less people were going to hospitals, and special interest groups were losing money. More and more people became attracted to it, and a few wholesome principles, which deterred sheep like mentality and directed toward individual power. Though that is good in one way, all of the teachings were, are not, 100% pointing to one's own reason and logic. The karma in that is detrimental. Both sides of the coin, china and this system are not proper in their dealings. Too much hiding and too much conspiracy. This is best, for my sake, discussed in person with references available with their book, and then proper teachings. Peace and Blessings, Lin

My Dear Cultivation Brother, That was the warning I received last night and this morning during meditation. When one attains such a state, they have attained Nirvana. Peace and Blassings, Lin P.S.- Unmuddy-ing the waters is one of the vows I took at 11yrs old. Difficult indeed, not difficult if one is selfless. I'm Still cultivating.

Where are you from in China? Province, and city? I'm also in China. Peace and Blessings, Lin

I don't remember the names, unfortunately, but there were several books I had seen in bookstores over the years describing energy spheres, and writing extensively onthem, but really not saying much. I have met some people who were just fanatic about seein gthe, or even feeling like they had one in their hands, and they would talk a storm about them, others would be amazed, but what was said was more like an over exaggerated emotion. I have met some Qigong teachers who simply bring it u for no apparent reason as if it is mandatory and a sign of true skill. Ofcourse, their tuition was pretty steap...lol Peace, Lin

Qi or no Qi ball, it is just a tool. and doesn't need to be used at all. It is only a form that one may create in order to use it. But its not necessary. One doesn't need to use Qi in that form at all... its just for some things, a circular like form is better. Its not mysterious, BUT unfortunately, many wanted to build a "name" for themselves in our 20 yrs of energetic work experience in the west, and commercialized, made a mystery out of simplicity. Peace, Lin

Anal sex in any form with anyone is not proper at all for one's health, and cultivation. It causes leakages in one's essence, directly out of the kidneys. For men having anal sex, it is adding toxic energy to their system like plugging into an electrical outlet. Enjoy. Peace, Lin

I knew this thread was coming. I was in meditation last night and this morning, and saw this thread was coming very very soon. And it will get long. Karma is a process of outflows. What you think, you experience. This means you are radiating the energy of that thought, and it is affecting your environment. This radiating has an outcome, and the affect on the environment also has an outcome. Because it was sent out, it must be returned. THe process of opposites and keeping them still/"balanced" is Karma. It is in everything you do. In entertaining thoughts, speech, work, desires, writing, showering, having sex...and it affects all levels of mind. It is the underlying law of relativity when the mind is attached, and one is not free to come and go as they please. Even after one has realized, and has been enlightened, they still have to undergo their repaying of debt if their attachments/afflictions were heavily entertained. This thread is going to be long. I advise patience with it, or it can become a sloppy thread, with nothing really understood. Karma has been talked and intellectualized for such a long time, no one wants to get to it. One can not really balance karma. They can only put down their personal attachments to what they desire and experience, and the force of attention to their thoughts which lead them to their outcomes, will be lessened, and the outcome of their cause will not result in extreme emotional attachment. This is an excerpt taken from the article ' Recitation and States' " So, affinity is karma...karma is the process of manifesting what is of the cultivator's, or person's, mind, whether good or bad... ...It is likened to throwing a brick at a window. If you throw it very hard, the glass breaks into many small pieces. If you just lightly throw the brick, the glass breaks, but the pieces will be much larger. That is due to the momentum of throwing the brick. Same with thoughts, emotions, desires. Concentrate enough on them, and there is an overflow of them. That is the momentum of thoughts, and karma is the process of slowing down that momentum, manifesting the outcomes from it, and ending it. But people usually add more to it, and get overwhelmed." Peace and Blessings, Lin
