  1. Ritualistic Magic? Whats the point?

Great thread I've decided to "take the plunge", and order the book I mentioned earlier (Hands on Chaos Magic)...I've had an interest in this stuff for a fair while now, and have dabbled with bits and pieces, but I think I'm at the point now where a more serious exploration would be worthwhile. You guys impress me. Peace, T.S
  2. Channelling your destructive side...

Hey guys, I was lying in bed last night, unable to sleep, and was pondering the notion of destruction. I was thinking that, in a sense, it is an essential part of nature - Things are born, they mature and exist for a period of time, and then they decay, their life is over. I felt some powerful destructive emotions yesterday (that led to this train of thought) and was wondering how I can safely channel this destructive energy in a way that won't lead to myself and other people getting hurt in any way...It just seems to me that, if I am to strive to live in harmony with nature, then I can't deny or suppress this side of myself, lest it accumulate over time and manifest from my subconscious in negative ways. How do you deal with your shadow? Your destructive side? How do you balance yin and yang in your life?
  3. Channelling your destructive side...

Some great replies here, good advice, and lots to think about. Thanks
  4. The Path of the Christian Gnostics

I second that. I spent some time in a group that teaches SAW's stuff, and everything you said is right. To stay away is the best idea.
  5. Combining "eastern" and "western" practices?

Hey guys, thanks for replying. I've been chipping away at the practices in the Hermetics book, and feel as if I've made some progress: My visualisation skills have improved a bit, and I generally feel calmer as I'm going about my day. That being said, I feel as if I've built a bit of a barrier in my head in regards to combining this with something like Taoism...Part of me feels like I should just follow one thing, but a different part of me is saying, "No, its ok, don't limit yourself", so I guess I'll just trust that, in time, I'll find my path. If anyone with experience in this area could share how they go about combining things from different systems, that would be cool Peace.
  6. Jing conservation / sexual balance

Hey, dhiggs You've inspired me to put more of an effort into conserving. I'm a young dude as well and, while I wouldn't say I ever had a serious problem with too much masturbation, I have, after becoming aware of the benefits of conserving, been able to notice the negative effects it can have on me. I've been experimenting with conservation for a while now, but without putting in enough effort as I could. I think this is an old behaviour pattern that largely stems from smoking a lot of pot during my teenage years and developing bad habits that consisted largely of sitting on the couch watching Ren & Stimpy, and in the latter part of this period, developing paranoia and anxiety issues. The good news is that I've been doing a lot of work on my psychology over the last 2 or 3 years and pretty much feel like a new man. I'm learning to be kinder to myself, getting out of the house a lot more, and I'm starting a University course in a couple of weeks. I've been attempting conservation on and off for a while now, but have usually been caving at the 3-5 day mark, which is just about when the positive effects are starting to become noticeable, but I just wanted to let you know that your posts have given me the motivation to go for longer - The longest I've gone is about 15-16 days, which was pretty intense, but I'm going to try for longer this time Peace.
  7. What do you think of David Icke?

Curious what you guys think of , is he a bringer of truth, or a madman? I personally think that he makes some very interesting and valid points about some things, but some are preeeeeeetty out there (the whole reptilian thing...) sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask, but this isn't about Taoism so I put it in the General Discussion forum. Peace.
  8. Rising Dragon Martial Arts School?

Hey, so, I was surfing Youtube the other day and an ad for this place showed up. It got me thinking about what an amazing experience it would be to go and learn some Kung Fu in China. I'm still only thinking about it at this point and, if I went there, it wouldn't be until at least next year, but I was wondering if anyone here has heard of, or visited, this school. Any info you have would be much appreciated. Thanks, T.S
  9. Rising Dragon Martial Arts School?

Hey Sloppy Zhang, thanks for such a detailed reply. In the coming weeks, months etc, I'll find out what I can based on the points you mentioned. It would be all too easy to just say, "oooOOOooo, Kung Fu in China! I'm going to get on the next flight..." without really knowing enough about it, so thanks.

  11. Has anyone read this book?

Hi folks, just wondering if any of you have read this and, if you have, what did you think of it? The Amazon description makes it sound really good (Hey, no surprises there...) but the reviews vary drastically in opinion, and I thought I'd ask here before ordering it. Thanks, peace.
  12. Has anyone read this book?

    Thanks man!
  13. Commonality among all Spirituality

I had a look on that Great White Brotherhood website...Some of it was pretty convincing, up until I clicked the link to the "Best UFO Video Ever!", which I hope was a joke because it's so blatantly fake that it's funny...
  14. It's a long shot, but...

Hey everyone As the title to this thread implies, I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears, for those who don't know) I'm not completely sure what the cause of it is - It could be all the loud music I've listened to over the last 10 or so years, it could be an ear condition that I was diagnosed with a while ago (Meniere's disease - Bouts of dizziness/vertigo, sometimes accompanied by hearing damage) or it could be something else entirely (?) It was very bad about a year ago, until a friend of mine gave me a hypnosis CD to try - I was very sceptical of that, but it worked amazingly well...Up until last week, when I came down with a minor cold (nothing out of the ordinary) that was accompanied by pressure in my head and, of course, the dreaded ringing. Now, my cold is gone but the ringing remains and I don't know what to do - As positive as I try to remain, it's extremely irritating and distressing (makes it difficult to concentrate on anything for long and pretty much impossible to sit in silence ) I've tried the hypnosis CD again and I went to the doctor to get the excess wax build up cleaned out, but it remains. I was wondering/hoping if any of you guys could recommend anything I can do to combat this problem, maybe a herbal remedy, meditation, mantra...anything? It would be greatly appreciated, as this is quite distressing. Many thanks, T.S
  15. It's a long shot, but...

Hey guys, sorry I didn't post back in here until now, I've been meaning to for a while...Anyway, the tinnitus has pretty much subsided now - I used the mudra that was mentioned for about 45 minutes a day for a few days and, along with Goji berries, it seemed to work pretty rapidly. I do think that it came back partly due the cold I had, so it definitely helped when that was all better as well. So, thanks SO much for the suggestions, I'm amazed by the knowledge of the people on this forum. Peace.
  16. Teachers, Gurus, Sifus, Masters, etc.

Hey FieryWind, how's it going? I'm just curious: To what extent do you follow the teachings of Samael Aun Weor? I've been in a couple of modern Gnostic groups where his teachings are the focus, and whilst I do see value in some of the things he spoke of, I left both of the groups. This was because the more of his teachings I read, the more I noticed how he insulted people, calling them "Ignoramus" and even "Hag". I asked myself, "Is this what Divine Love is about???", and decided that no, it couldn't be. His words did leave in impact on me, and now I struggle with guilt about sex and being who I used to feel I naturally was...To be fair, other factors have had parts to play in this, not just his words, but they certainly didn't help ease my mind. Perhaps you could tell me what you get out of his teachings, so I might look at them with a new perspective? I would appreciate that T.S
  17. It's a long shot, but...

Thanks for all the replies and the advice...I'll try some things over the next couple/few weeks and post back in here with some (hopefully good!) news. With a bit of luck it was simply the cold I had that brought it back like this, but I'll start with practising the mudra, along with the dietary advice, and see how that goes. I'm not (yet...) familiar with any qi gong exercises (I'm a bit unsure about learning from books, though I do have a book with some exercises in it that I'm reading at the moment - Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity) so that might have to wait for a while. Thanks again
  18. It's a long shot, but...

Hey Scotty, thanks for that, I'll definitely try it
  19. "Tribute" -- Didgeridoo with bagpipes by Stuart Shaw

That was cool man. Took me a while to get used to it, as those two are such an unusual blend of instruments, but by the end I was getting right into it I'm Australian with Celtic heritage as well so it sounded like home to me - Whatever that is. Nice one!
  20. What are you listening to?

Been listening to a lot of these guys lately. I listened to pretty much only metal for a long time but I'm really enjoying this...
