  1. Britain and the European Union

The recent unrest in France was interesting. I posted a couple of photographs and Apech immediately came back with the comment that such scenes could have been witnessed anywhere. This is not in fact true as there is really no mob like a French mob who have to stop the riot for two and a half hours for lunch. I am not quite so sure as you regarding the real power behind the E.U. but one does wonder what is really afoot within the corridors of power. The average Member of Parliament has no real idea what is going on. Even those higher in the pecking order are woefully ignorant of the machinations within the E.U. Hence the ludicrous antics of Harriet Harman being unable to identify any one of the movers and shakers of the E.U. when shown their photographs. I doubt that Dodgy Dave Cameron would have fared much better. Should Britain leave the E.U. I feel that there would be desperate efforts made by the Super State to punish us so as to make us aware of the error of our ways. France for one would encourage the movement of Muslim migrants across the channel. As to whether other states would also fall away from the Union I have my doubts in the short term, though the rate at which the E.U. falls into chaos will gradually speed up and then we may see some action. In the event of Britain voting to remain within the Union then things will get interesting. A great force has been mobilised with Brexit as it's goal and that force will not simply fade away. Should Britain remain within the E.U. the next general election could be interesting.

I cannot say that I have noticed overmuch in the way of positivity within the Europhiles camp. Just the same old tale that poor little Britain should remain huddled beneath the security blanket of the European Superstate. Unfortunately for them that security blanket is looking evermore soiled and threadbare. It is also noteworthy that various European heads of state are making threats regarding how they and the rest of Europe would react should the U.K. leave - Hollands Mark Rutte being the most recent. It is all rather pathetic and predictable. I am surprised that Uberfrau Merkel has not been more vocal.

I must admit that I did have Angela Merkel in mind. Big Thumb Uberfrau.

Remaining within the E.U. will not maintain a United Kingdom. Scotland is still wailing for independance, though that is only independance from the English as they are desperate to remain under the iron thumb of the E.U. We well know the problems in Ulster and whilst the call for Welsh home rule has been silent for a while we should not believe that it has gone away. Leaving the E.U. will not rid us of problems but it will provide for us an opportunity at self determination as opposed to the thraldom we are destined to endure beneath the iron thumb of the European Superstate. "Iron Thumb of the European Superstate." I do like that term and may use it again.

Not in the least. I am simply a man who sits quietly and observes the way of the world. By observing what has occurred in the past and what is occurring now one has a pretty good chance of predicting what will happen in the future. This is a given in many instances as regards the French. Unfortunately we appear to be ruled by a motley crew who believe that you can continue to make the same mistakes over and over and somehow achieve success through insane persistance. What can one do when presented with such madness?
  12. Britain and the European Union

You could indeed but the French have institutionalised such behaviour to the extent that one can almost set ones clock (or at the very least ones calendar) by it.
  13. Britain and the European Union

The Germans do not bow their heads meekly because they pretty much rule the roost as regards the E.U. The French do not bow their heads meekly but simply comply with whatever the Germans want (though they would never admit to this) and spend the Spring and Summer engaged is mass strikes, picketing and other activities designed to bring the country to standstill and causing disruption to anyone attempting to fly over or travel through France. Vive la France and Vive la European Superstate!
  14. Britain and the European Union

This is a good point that you raise here well worthy of note. Leaving the E.U. will result in considerable readjustment but there is no single answer to the form that readjustment will take. It will very much depend on the institution concerned. It will however make planning and action a necessity. Remaining in the E.U. on the other hand will require far less in the way of both planning and action. Should we remain within the so called "Union" then alll that will be required of us will be to bow our heads meekly and do as we are told.
  15. Britain and the European Union

What you say is quite correct. However, by distancing ourselves from the E.U. we would be relieving ourselves of one layer of greed, corruption and shitty politicians. That at the very least would be a start.
  16. Britain and the European Union

I am at a complete loss as to your argument here Apech. That the E.U. allows free movement of labour is correct as is the fact that we have no control over it. Unfortunately it allows free movement of "people" rathert than labour and therein lies the problem. Why should we not have control over our own borders and allow in whomsoever we please? Only a Socialist would see such a suggestion as anything other than sound common sense. Again I can throw your argument back in your face. The Brexit camp are in fact realists who see the world as it is. It is the Pro E.U. Superstate supporter who looks at Europe through rose tinted spectacles. The E.U. is fast coming apart at the seams and that is plain to see. Unfortunatley there are none so blind as those who will not see and they are doomed to mimic the Emperor in his new clothes. In fact that tale sums up the whole "remain" argument and if we wish not to end up naked and shivering in the cold and rain then there is only way to vote on June 23rd.
  17. Britain and the European Union

If you have a look through the thread you will find all of the arguments or references to them. I am interested that you are voting to stay within the E.U. unless someone can show you a stunningly cogent argument why we should not. This suggests that you may have heard a stunningly cogent argument that we should remain within the E.U. If this is the case then please present this argument here, in this thread, for I have certainly yet to hear it.
