  1. "Well" and Anarchy

This was very much dawei's brainchild and to be fair he saw it in a wholly positive light, the idea being that it would permit self- moderation via "ownership" of threads. I never saw it as anything other than the wishy washy brainchild of intellectual incompetence. On the bright side what has been done may yet be undone.

  3. Putin the Gangster. But Why Now?

The Shangri la of the north is Wakefield. I used to court a girl there who was the cousin of Geoffrey Boycott. He would introduce himself as follows. "Hello. I'm Geoffrey Boycott of Yorkshire and England." My own view is that Putin's Russia very much puts its own interests first whilst the "Powers That Be" in Europe, with an air of self satisfied benevolence put the interests of almost everyone above those of their own people. i see no prospect of any effective change in this attitude in the short term, though as the situation worsens change may come more quickly.
  4. Putin the Gangster. But Why Now?

It is a very sad fact that you have pretty much summed things up here.
  5. Putin the Gangster. But Why Now?

Gangster, tyrant – he certainly looks the part. But what of his relationship with the Russian Orthodox Church which still denies rumours that it may in future merge with the state?

Try The Revenant. A film that can be enjoyed on many levels.
  12. I went to the Garden of love, And saw what I never had seen; A Chapel was built in the midst, Where I used to play on the green. And the gates of this Chapel were shut, And “Though shalt not” writ over the door; So I turned to the Garden of love That so many sweet flowers bore. And I saw it was filled with graves, And tombstones where flowers should be; And priests in black gowns were walking their rounds, And binding with briars my joys and desires. William Blake Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Aliester Crowley

  15. I would be in no great hurry to hail Portugal as a Socialist success story or indeed any sort of success story.
  16. It is unfortunate that Cameron was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, is married into "old money" and was educated at Eton - where he was a member of that illustrious band of louts "The Bullingdon Club." It becomes impossible for him to defend himself against what is undoubtably a statement of fact. As regards the wielding of power however I doubt that we would fare better under any Socialist or Liberal leader. My view is plainly stated in fact. Whoever we end up with will peddle the same left wing liberal twaddle that has a stranglehold over the whole of Europe.
  17. Another quote worthy of note!
  18. My own view, for what it is worth, is that the Governments efforts in schools to prevent radicalisation will have little or no effect. It is very much a case of their being seen, attempting to do something; the same thing is happening in France and presumably elsewhere in Europe. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jan/21/france-overhaul-secularism-teaching-anti-radicalisation-paris-attacks It is an unfortunate trait in Liberal Democracies that instead of positive action that will have an effect on the problem they make a few wishy washy changes that skirt around the issue. They will not even use the term "Islamic radicalisation" but give the impression that Islam is just one small aspect of a larger problem of radicalisation in general. There will come a time when our Politicions come to the realisation that to rectify a problem you will have to upset the people who are causing it. That point appears to be still far off.
  19. As Shanlung appears to have gone into, a hopefully short, self imposed exile from the forum I shall post this to keep his spirit alive. It concerns efforts by the U.K. Government to protect children from the'spell of twisted ideologies' https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-drive-to-protect-children-from-spell-of-twisted-ideologies

  21. I do believe that you need to explain yourself here. Off TopicWe are a loose knit group with varied interests. Feel free to discuss anything on your mind. Forum rules apply. Is it your intention to impose "topic cencorship" of subjects with which you do not feel comfortable?
  22. Not so I am afraid. This is the "Off Topic" section of the forum and the Dao Bums is a broad church.
  23. Good to see you back old boy as your posts are certainly never dull. As a lone voice it would be wise not to get yourself banned. It is possible to state your point without going that step too far and thereby fashioning the rod for your own back.
