strange sound in the head while meditating
Chang replied to blue eyed snake's topic in General Discussion
My own view would be that this is connected with the movement of energy up the Governor Channel. I have experienced similar phenomena during meditation and as you state that one of your interests is qigong this would be understandable. Be sure to keep the tongue on the roof of the mouth whilst meditating as this will complete the circuit but otherwise do not worry about the experience. It is unlikely to continue for long but as it is enjoyable then make the most of it whilst it lasts. -

How do we know what's yin and what's yang . Really.

Yes. We are back directly to the subject of the thread. If one were to deliberately move away from a state of balance believing that a state of extreme yang is desirable, if one directed ones practice towards that end..........one would suffer the karmic effect of that. One may believe that the effects of such behaviour would be positive, convince oneself and attempt to convince others but my opinion is that you would move to a state of imbalance and the effect would be deleterious. It really is all there in the tai chi symbol, perfect balance and perfect equilibrium. It is there for us to see and is simple enough to understand (though we may study it for a lifetime and still find new things) but if we wish to ignore it and go off on a tangent then we are free to do so. But one thing we are not free to do is escape the karmic effect of our actions. They will catch us in the end.

Alas. The baby has gone out with the bath water.

Yes i have noted the avatar and can see what you mean regarding the lack of yin within yang etc in the symbol shown. It lacks the full balance of the completed tai chi symbol. Whether we can deduce from the use of that symbol that TM does not believe that the seed of yin is found within yang and vice versa I am not sure. He will have to comment on that himself. To answer marbleheads question. "Would you say that they are complimentary and the whole would not be complete if both were not complete and supporting the other?" Yes I would say exactly that. The symbol is one of complete wholeness, balance and equality. If we begin to take the view that yang is greater than yin or yin better than yang then we are entering the land of the deluded.

There has been a great deal of posting in recent days by two forum members who believe that they have seen and understood the truth regarding yin and yang, positive and negative. This has led them to a state of awakening and they seek to lead others down the same path. My own view is that they have but seen a shadow of a truth and that through a glass darkly. The obsession with positive and negative completely ignores the fact that positive and negative are simply two ends of the same stick. Not only have they lost sight of one end, they are fast losing sight of the stick itself. To take this matter one step further we only have to look at the tai chi symbol to see clearly that yang does not go hand in hand with yang but is in fact engaged in an everlasting embrace with yin. It should also be noted that yang carries the seed of yin within its substance and vice versa. This symbol is an expression of perfect balance. Those who ignore this balance are in danger of imbalance. As an example those men who are obsessed by the yang state may well find themselves drifting towards misogyny or other states which take them away from equilibrium. Balance is everything and we must take extreme care when considering the words positive and negative not to give them connotations of good and bad. That way can lead to extreme errors and also madness.

You really need to take a look at the tai chi symbol you use as your avatar TaoMaster. Yang goes hand in hand with yin and vice versa.

They are both of great value but it will depend very much on the teacher. A good teacher in either art will take you far whilst a poor teacher will take you nowhere.
