  3. Hello and welcome to the forum. I am sure that you will receive more detailed answers to your question but I would reply yes - you can practice/meditate/do significant energy work whilst working on other things. Of old this was known as "the way of the householder." 12. I do believe that you are heading off down a dead end here as regards self hypnosis. I doubt very much that you will be able to ask yourself questions whilst in a trance state and I think that your interests would be better served by following a sound method of meditation. As the mind becomes more still you will find all sorts of questions being answered.
  13. I agree very much with OldChi. Most are simply born into a religion and the rest of their religious life they spend on their knees. Far better in my opinion to develope a practical philosophy for life with internal practice which will develop mind, body and spirit. However, if you want to be a God Botherer thats OK as well. The problem is that practitioners of the Abrahamic religions, most especially Christians and Muslims, want to subject the rest of us to their beliefs whether we want it or not. This can present problems.

  17. Relying On No-one But Yourself

We are all dependant on many things and probably many people. I would argue however that the more independent and less needy we can become the better. Such a state may even be likened to returning to the state of the uncarved block.
  18. Questions for interview with Ching Sung

I would be interested to hear how the ancient training methods for development of the body differ from the modern? What exactly has been lost?
  19. What are you watching on Youtube?

This had me feeling a bit dizzy.
  20. lesson 1

A good topic for debate but alas. A man may believe that which is wrong, he may desire that which will bring him woe and he may do a thing which will have uncertain consequences. My 2 penn'orth, Peace.
  21. my position and my goals

Hello and welcome to the Tao Bums. Most of us are guilty of the occasional lapse in judgement so you will be at home here. It is possible to replace substance abuse with a disciplined practice such as tai chi and qigong but to do so on ones own is difficult. It would be far better were you to find a teacher and attend a class. If you give us your location then I am sure that someone on the forum will be able to offer advice. You will be able to post freely now but we ask that you read the two posts pinned at the top of the Lobby and take a look at the forum terms and rules http://thetaobums.com/topic/19575-forum-terms-rules/ This covers all that you need be aware of when getting started. 22. Apart from covering our own backs I doubt that such warnings would have great effect. The sensible would take heed but the majority are in far too much of a hurry for results. Mo Pai is the perfect example of how fanaticism can grip the mind and blow away common sense like the north wind blows fallen leaves. And what do we class as dangerous practice? Born again Christians believe that yoga, meditation and tai chi can lead to demonic possession. Who will decide what warnings should be given and about what? I am afraid that we could be opening a can of worms.
  23. Books and websites are but poor substitutes for a good teacher. My advice would be to give a location for yourself and hopefully someone can give details of a local school or Instructor who may be able to help you achieve that which you seek.
