Vortex, Thanks for the post!! I very much look forward to your report!!! Somehow, I had thought that you were going to the Phoenix class. I'm sorry I'll miss seeing you there, but I'm glad you had a good time. Any other bums at the LA seminar? Yoda

Interesting thought. Lam Kam Chuen says that standing postures curve the body to tune into particular frequencies like a satellite dish does.

Thanks Rex!! It just clicked for me: "Lineage Energy" is it. Every lineage allows a certain freeware access to their lineage. Some more so than others. It seems to be the experience of this community that the Kunlun lineage does allow a certain freeware access just by taking the posture, asking for the lineage blessings, reading the book, dreaming of Big Max, etc. But there is still some dimension of the basic Kunlun transmission package that requires making contact with a teacher in the material dimension. I think it was Gordon who asked Max about exactly this. I first learned of lineage energy in the context of chikung when learning of Winn's Primordial Chikung... the power of the simple movements defy explanation along the lines of strict chi theory. As Winn said, the practice taps you into the lineage blessings, energy, and meritorious karma. In the case of Primordial, no teacher contact is necessary. Mantras are another good example... anyone can do the Mani mantra and pick up on the lineage blessings but getting an in person empowerment opens the hatch much wider for a greater flow of blessings. And as one becomes more open, the flow becomes more powerful.

I've noticed from what Mantra says, that there's a lot of figure-it-out-for-yourself tradition in this practice. So I'd say just try it and see what you think. I think the visualization practice is just to get established in happiness as a starting point.

Cyberfights are just a part of the process but fortunately a balance is always found. And every so often a separate forum will be established. We'll have to see if Kunlun is one of those occasions like was the case with this site splitting from Winn's, or the great sex machine of taobum past, Ron Jeremy, starting his own forum.

so it's a trial and error thing, but I'm thinking that the most important thing is to avoid direct contact between the skin and the earth during the practice

fast-5.com has a free ebook which may be of interest to fasters.

Pleiades chicks like Esther just want to have fun!

My favs are Swami Kaleshwar's mantras and standing Kunlun. I'll add tea, juicing, and clay to get to five.

I don't want to make any social plans, myself. I need to figure out the vibe of the scene first and decide whether I want to be in a practice mindset or a social one.
-
you can search taobums for more info. The only negative is that it can be ungrounding especially when mixed with practice. Right now, I eat once a day as an "intermittent fasting" thing. I tried eating every other day and it didn't work out after awhile... the bodster got confused as to what it was trying to accomplish. If you fast once a week make it a day you don't usually socialize on... that'll make it easier. In terms of health benefits, calorie restriction has been shown to reverse aging related markers in human dna and has tremendously extended the life span of rodents... so it can be a powerful tool if it's appropriate for you.

cuts to the chase! Welcome to taobums!

I think this is eventually where all this is going. It's just like SeanD's group setting up their own forum so they can get past all the intro debate and get deeper into the discussion. I think all this is really helpful to get the word out, get feedback for the next book, etc. in the meantime.

How do YOU define enlightenment? How do you know when your enlightened?
Yoda replied to mwight's topic in General Discussion
Maybe when one is no longer compelled to post things? Seriously, though, the quest for enlightenment is never ending, so it can't be encapsulated with just the 'genie stage' or the 'non-ego' stage or anything. But if you need a quick and dirty definitive definition, it's the ability to stop one's heart at will. -

I've not heard about the genie thing before... I'll keep my eyes peeled! It would be a shame to accidently squash the dude in kleenex or something... -

SiliconValley, Welcome to taobums! I'm not a Kunlun expert, but I wouldn't worry about the details just stay as still as comfortable, as long as comfortable and call it a day. Weird movements can happen but don't worry about it if they don't. If you enjoy the practice, then pursue it. Consider going to a workshop at some point. Yoda

Ok, so Mantra68 just trotted out a not-so-nice story... Keep in mind that the spiritual giants amongst us attract a lot of not-so-nice people that are quite frankly out to get them with all the not-so-nice energy that they have at their disposal. Buddha survived assassination attempts, Krishna was literally dodging arrows in a major civil war until a hunter finally killed him, Gandhi was killed by a vegetarian, and Jesus was not well received either. That applies to the rest of us... to the extent that people like us have been born with more openness, sensitivity, and curiosity than the rest of the population, to that extent we have attracted greater negativity even during our childhoods. The Bhagavad Gita likens the whole situation to a battlefield. But it's not that people are evil, but rather all this functions like the weather... high positivity attracts negativity. We need to find good practices that can lift us up and to protect us as well. Not everyone will succeed in both of those endeavors even with the very best practices and the very best teachers available. In the end, it's all good... but in the now, there's definitely an edge.

Just read in Science News... says that the vibrating plate research about increased bone density and weight loss involved vibrations that you could barely feel. It was meant to simulate the vibrations of the muscles during the act of standing. (per the NYTimes article) The dude interviewed in the SN article said that he didn't think his research had any bearing on the vibrating plates that are sold for fitness purposes. He felt that using those plates or climbing on the old washing machine were potentially harmful and didn't recommend their use. (He's no fun at parties, I can tell!!) I've also heard that plants grow better when exposed to loud music of any kind. Maybe just crank the stereo? You teens can take it from there, and there's standing practice for the rest of us. Or maybe I'll embrace the tree to hiphop or something...

I'm guessing that Kunlun is a water thing... no consciously directing the flow, no expected outcomes, no goals, the flow that does get set up goes downwards and doesn't feel hot or sexual, at least to me. As opposed to kundalini, it doesn't even feel like light or bright energy.

I second that. ~~~ I'll ask Max in Phoenix about the kid angle. It seems to me that it is a very kid friendly practice: not mystical, no belief structure, very easy, doesn't have to be done for long periods of time, kids can "outdo" their parents in it which is a treat for them, they like the automatic movement thing, definitely fun. The nice thing is you can share it without a big song and dance. I just told Freya to try out the position for a minute or two to see what she thought. I found the whipping around thing to be a bit much, but she was definitely having fun. I stopped it to prevent it from getting any stronger and we spent a lot of time grounding the vibe.

Hundun, Thanks for your thoughts, I'm inclined to agree... the non-kundalininess seems kosher to me. On another subject, it's funny you should mention "liberated kids" on this forum. While I like the theory of liberated kids, Mrs. Yoda is surrounded by them at these homeschooling playgroups and says that they are a total drag. One of them even carved a smiley face on our kitchen table and didn't bother to apologize. It's hard to shock me, but we had just fed the kid, you know? A good meal too. It was like he was an occupying soldier or something. Anyways... my new theory on liberated kids is that it takes extremely gifted parents to go for the "liberated" approach and the rest of us should stay on the road. Yoda

I've not have any dramatic experiences doing Kunlun, but I was curious how it would work on someone who was very open energetically so I asked my 7 year old daughter to give it a shot... within minutes she was being thrown around and laughing like she was on a roller coaster. I quickly ended the experiment... Chris hasn't said whether Kunlun is appropriate for kids or not. I should have checked in first, in retrospect. But it was quite something.
