The energetic difference between a straight dance club and a gay dance club is like night and day.

Thanks for asking! I went last month to Santa Cruz. He's like Big Max... a powerful reinvention of the tradition. I'm considering flying out to India in 2008 to see him again. What's in his books pales in comparison to what I got in the workshop and they say that he is getting more powerful every year. Hopefully, he'll come to California again soon.

Between the two populations, gays have more fun and that tells me which group is closer to the truth.

And there's the whole spacemen-fucked-the-monkeys thing.

That's one of the signs that Cam isn't bringing down the energy enough.

Well said. The gay men and women I've known seem significantly ahead of the curve... they've had to free themselves of so many constraints that they know how to play that game better than the rest of us. We haven't seen many/any high level gay people b/c we haven't seen many high level people period. I hadn't considered that gay people might have a superior inner balance... that makes sense too.

While Taoists are much more interested in woman to woman relationships, that might not have anything to do with particular spiritual insights. Big Max strongly hints on p. 81 that the gender to gender specifics doesn't matter. While there will always be differences of opinion, I hope that everyone feels welcome on taobums regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc. I like to think that we are such a freak show as it is, that the above distinctions don't even scan.

Let's just all switch each other to ignore mode and then we can be friends! Happy Birthday Big Max!

Commitment as a Refuge, Dark Night of the Soul in Buddhism
Yoda replied to sean's topic in General Discussion
We've had a couple "Is the dark night of the soul really necessary?" threads. I've tended to poo-poo them as unnecessary in today's world for a few reasons: our paradigms are less hard core and easier to move past and our methods are superior and we know about self pacing and dealing with kundalini type issues. Hopefully (?) we are carrying less baggage in general that has to be transformed and the atmosphere of the planet is more conducive to spiritual evolution and our paths are being articulated in more uplifting and happy terms. But then again, my progress has been extremely modest compared to St John of the Cross, etc. so I really can't say for sure and it sounds like brother Cam is going through a crazy processing cycle right now, not all of which is pleasant. -
I thought wall sits was just a way to torture high school basketball players!! I had never thought of them as a cool chikung system with weight loss benefits too!! Thanks!

I like "Way to go: taobums.com". Not nearly as profound as 'get in the way' but it does capture the inane factor better.

What the world needs right now is more taobums! I'm glad you found us!

You can search taobums for calorie restriction and fasting. I tried eating every other day about a year ago and it worked out great in the beginning, but then my body got tired of the stress of changing gears so often. There's no way I'd practice CR... like Karen said... no relaxation there for me. My only hope is some form of intermittent fasting, which is consistent with what Karen said about needing to feel both hunger and satisfaction. There's eatqod.com which is a good resource for intermittent fasting. Right now, I'm fasting on Mondays. It makes me see how much I eat out of empty habit as a way to change my energy state rather than true hunger. My theory is that fasting one day a week will reduce the amount I eat the rest of the week. I just meditate in lieu of eat on Mondays. We'll see. For me, it's not too hardcore and I rarely have social occasions on Mondays, so hopefully it'll work out. Sounds like a way cool website Karen is working on!

my daughter's penny whistle a week ago. tried to do the greensleeves tune, but I couldn't read the notes so I bagged it. If I transcribe the notes to finger positions, I could probably handle it. I had good luck with Scarboro fair awhile back doing that. She's seriously kicking my butt in gymnastics so I need to find something else that I'm better at!!

Max is at 2 hrs/day... Turbo 1.5... amazing stuff!! I'm maybe, if I feel like it, 15 minutes a day. I'm not taking it seriously until I get to Phoenix anyhoo for the empowerment part of it.

It's so hard to sum up in one line! I'm leaning towards "Get in the Way".

they are getting some rain right now, though Long term rain fall predictions aren't very good for the SE USA, but I'm told that they are good for the SW... and the SW will run out of water. Hasta lavista California agriculture?

Thanks for the reminder... Kunlun can be done mentally, and doing it physically or mentally can be a seriously nice tool when encountering excessive sexual energy. I could never get the hang of MCO and was only so-so with spinal breathing. This seems much easier.

Loose tea, I like your name! If you haven't already, check those guys out on youtube! Yoda

I'm the master of mix'n'match but I'm trying to resist the urge to do so on this one.
