  2. Video-Wang Ji Wu's Neigong Exercises

I forgot to add that Dai family is not XIngyiquan it is Dai Xinyiquan so even if the Dai family style can be called Dai Xin Yi Liu He Quan it cannot be called Dai Xing Yi Liu He Quan. IT did not become Xingyi until Li Luoneng called his style Xingyiquan. Now what Wang Jiwu trained and what anyone who trains xingyiquan can say is it comes form Dai Xinyiquan...but it is not dai xinyiquan if you trace back to Li Luoneng.
  3. Video-Wang Ji Wu's Neigong Exercises

I did not know Tim trained Hebei, but I see you are right Li Luoneng > Liu Qilan > Li Cunyi (Hebei )> Zhang Junfeng > Hong Yixiang > Xu Hongji > Tim Cartmell Shanxi Li Luoneng > Liu Qilan > Lu Fengchun > Zhou Luqan > Liang Kequan > Tim Cartmell Wang Jiwu Li Luoneng > Liu Qilan > Wang Fuyuan > Wang Jiwu Che Yihai > Wang Fuyuan > Wang Jiwu Now Che Yihai Che Yihai learned from Dai Erin and/or Li Luoneng but I am inclined to think Dai Erin Xin Yi Liu He Quan comes off of Li Zheng lineage which Wang Ji Wu is not part of Cao Jiwu > Ma Xueli > Zhang Zhicheng > Li Zheng Li Luoneng changed the name form xinyiquan to Xingyiquan and that is where Shanxi style comes from and it is the lineage that Wang Ji Wu is in. The label of Xin Yi Liu He Quan sometimes gets thrown around pretty easily However I have heard Dai Xinyiquan referered to as Dai Xin Yi Liu He Quan before but to be honest I am not sure if that is correct. However Wang Jiwu is in a Shanxi lineage and Shanxi’s santi shi stance is much more centered than Hebei with lower hand positions in Santi Shi than Hebei
  4. Video-Wang Ji Wu's Neigong Exercises

I have the book and the DVD (Xing Yi Nei Gong: Xing Yi Health Maintenance and Internal Strength Development) and I have done the exercises and I like them, but I got it more because I train XIngyiquan (Hebei) than I did for the Neigong aspects/claims As for the attached video link, I cannot open it at work so I will have to check it at home later. But to be honest for internal work I am more incline to work with Zhan Zhuang like you find with Lam Kam Chuen or simply in Santi Shi training since that is more my background via teachers I have had. Note: I realize Tim Cartmell's Xingyiquan is Shanxi style
  5. Before Shaolin there was India.

Not knowing much about Andhra Pradesh I really can' comment, but a quick web search produced date of around 800BCE to 700BCE There ha already been 3 Chinese dynasties by that time •Xia Dynasty About 1994 BCE - 1766 BCE •Shang Dynasty 1766 BCE - 1027 BCE •Zhou Dynasty 1122 BCE -256 BCE •Qin Dynasty 221 BCE - 206 BCE •Early Han Dynasty 206 BCE - 9 AD And Qin has had a rather sizable impact on East Asia But this thread is not about culture it is about Shaolin Martial arts
  6. Before Shaolin there was India.

What I find amazing about discussions like this is that people can except that Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Sir Isaac Newton can come up with calculus independent of one another but those same people can't seem to except that it is possible for people of antiquity to figure out how to beat the hell out of each other, back when they had to for survival, all by themselves without any input at all from another person or culture Chinese martial arts did not come from India or Africa and there is no "reputable" historical evidence to back up such claims that it did..... it also had nothing to do with alien space Nazis either

  9. Is the West Fascist ? Oligarchic? Plutocratic?

Thank you But with that as a definition all bets are off, to many countries, cultures and governments to categorize them into one group
  10. Before Shaolin there was India.

You can find it all over the place throughout history and religion, heck you can even find it in the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado California... a rather large one actually
  11. Before Shaolin there was India.

Yup but one points to the left to the 4 directions (N <--) and one points to the right (-->N)
  12. Before Shaolin there was India.

Actually you have that backwards...kinda The one on the right is a Nazi Swastika, it points to the right the one on the left is Buddhist it points to the left, however you can on occasion find a Buddhist symbol that points to the right but it has absolutely nothing to do with Nazism and was a round a long time before the Nazi party was ever thought of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nazi_swastika_clean.svg
  13. Is the West Fascist ? Oligarchic? Plutocratic?

First define "the West" Speaking only of the USA from this point on To be fascist you need to have a Fascism which is defined as a system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. We do not have this in the USA and the proof is in the recent government shutdown we jsut had which was caused by disagreement between branches of government that that cannot happen in a fascist state I do not think that the US is an oligarchy which is a government by a few, especially by a small faction of persons or families and although it is a few by comparison to the population it is still a lot of people and their families tend to not be part of the government in most cases Now you may be onto something with a plutocracy but I still do not think it is a plutocracy even though the majority of those in political power are millionaires or better. I think it is more of a government that caters to the wealthy which of course could be used as a point to prove it is in fact a plutocracy. However I do not think the wealthy control it completely just yet so I am still not convinced it is a true plutocracy just yet
  14. Before Shaolin there was India.

Sorry to interrupt the alien space Nazi bits but.... I missed this the first time around and you know being a long time Taijiquan guy Zhang sanfeng is one of my favorite mythical figures from Chinese history to discuss The big problem with throwing Zhang Sanfeng into the mix is..... which one There is some speculation that Zhang Sanfeng was officially mentioned much earlier but so far the only thing I have come across that is solid and provable is he was first mentioned in the 1650s in the “Epitaph of Wang Zhengnan” written by Huang Zongxi (1610-1695) [note: Chen Wangting 1600-1680] and he is mentioned there Wang Zhengnan is the only living successor to the martial arts lineage of neijia of which Zhang Sanfeng is the founder. He refers to Zhang Sanfeng as a Taoist alchemist and says that Zhang Sanfeng revised Shaolin style to emphasis offense and defense using softness and not relying on hardness. However it is not called taiji it is called Baiji by Wang’s son and it has little in common with taijiquan with no internal training and it is big on pressure point techniques. But it is a soft style like taiji. But to the reference to Zhang Sanfeng in the Epitaph; it is believed it is more of a political move than a historical reference. A bit of “take that you foreign Manchu oppressors” kind of thing. And now back to which Zhang Sanfeng? Sun Lutang sets Zhang Sanfeng it Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) or the ones that were mentioned by Xu Yusheng who associated the name Zhang Sanfeng with at lest 10 different people but ultimately puts Zhang Sanfeng in the Sung Dynasty (969-1126) and who had hundreds of disciples in Shaanxi. And of course there is the Zhang Sanfeng born in 1247 during the Southern Sung Dynasty (1127-1279) and there is another reference to him by another author that puts him in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) In China since 1650 Zhang Sanfeng has been called a Taoist, a Shaolin Master, a Warrior and a Confucian by various rather well trained and reputable Chinese writers that were writing “the facts” about Zhang Sanfeng…based on hear say and myth. And it has also been said since 1650 that Zhang Sanfeng created taiji by watching a snake and a bird fight. And of course there is the cave; by being lead by a mysterious light into a cave (Martial arts founders like caves apparently) where he found 2 golden snakes and a book that gave him the idea for taijiquan. and it is also said that he took from the Yellow Emperor and Lao Tzu to devise taiji. There is a rather long list of reputable authors since 1650 that have written histories of taijiquan that have linked it to Zhang Sanfeng in various ways but few have ever given any biographical information about him beyond myth. So far the only ones that completely ignore Zhang Senfeng is the Chen family and they have good reason to since it does not align with their taiji creation story. Chinese history tends to be punctuated with myth. A good example Yue Fei (1103-1142) although a real person and military officer is credited with the founding of several martial arts styles when if fact he nothing to do with most or any of them. It is an attempt at legitimacy or outright salesmanship by the person teaching the art. Yue Fei was a great warrior but he was not as prolific (in his short life) at developing martial arts styles as he is given credit for. Now before I forget since the topic is Bodhidharma and marital arts at Shaolin Bodhidharma: (allegedly) 5th century CE (time period from 401 to 500) or (the 6th century CD the period from 501 to 600) First Shaolin Monastery 477 AD First writings about Martial Arts in China 2697 BC The Art was referred to as jiao di which was an early Chinese term for wrestling, It is believed that it is the root of Shuaijiao which would makes Shuaijiao one of the if not the oldest martial arts system on the planet
  15. Before Shaolin there was India.

There is no verifiable historical evidence that Bodhidharma took Buddhism with him to China and taught martial arts to Shaolin. Also martial arts was written about in China as early as 2697 BC and it has absolutely nothing to do with Shaolin or .the currently mythical Bodhidharma. And for the record, movies and films are not proof A big misconception is that all Chinese martial arts came from Shaolin and that is simply not true.

  17. Xingyiquan has power and it is my favorite ICMA style to train but watch Chen Laojia erlu and you will see a lot of energy too. The originator of Wu/Hao style is Wu Yuxiang who was a student of Yang Luchan and Chen Qingping and I believe Wu Yuxiang studied with Chen Qingping first. Also depending on who you want to believe Zhaobao Taijiquan comes form Chen Qingping as well so look at Zhaobao and you will see a lot of energy too Now I think I will go train some Xingyi

  19. I have trained in Tung lineage for many years, my shifu was a student of Tung Ying Chieh and taught in Thailand with Tung Hu Ling, but we do not do any Hao style forms, those (the actual hao forms in total) may have been added back in by Tung Ying Chieh's Younger grand son Dong Zengchen. However Tung Ying Chieh did train Wu Hao style prior to trained with Yang Cheng Fu and the second fast form is a combination of Yang and Wu Hao I do not believe that a complete Hao form was taught in the Tung (Dong) family until his younger Grandson Dong Zengchen started teaching it. But I will say this, I have never trained Hao style, but I do like it, I am a big fan of Chen style and I have trained a little of that and I have trained a lot of Yang style and it is that combination that makes Hao style
  20. Xing Yi Neigong back in print

I own a copy of the DVD, bought it from Plum blossom a few years ago, and it is simply going over the exercises that are in the book. And it appears to have been made directly from the VHS tape that it originally came on.
