I've been taking tai chi at a local library. And at the end last week, we went into cosmic conscience pose. Immediately I perceived my father, in a bath robe, emanating "wake up" to me. It spooked me, and I left the pose immediatly, yet I would like to know, am I still there?

pardon me for forgetfulness. I've wondered if I had been able to exists in different states of mind at once, anamatva. Am I still frozen in cosmic conscience pose? Scotty, left heel on right ankle, standing. palms pressed together, arms in horizontal loop. Back to your question anamatva, I've been living, yet no longer is my father. He's been lost to me for about 14 years now. It's difficult to see him so clearly.

chidragon, Referring to verse 66, "Why do the hundred rivers turn and rush toward the sea...", LaoTsu makes a clear metaphor between what is inanimate and what has life. Implicit in verse 11 (the current discussion) is such a metaphor which is not so explicit to understand. There are many concepts and ways of understanding this verse, yet, for me, it is simple, he refers to the empty mind as opposed to an active one. yu chih wei li being thus makes gain wu chih yi wei yung non-being thus makes use Taken such as this, there is an understanding, of mine, that thought is pertintent to being. Perhaps, this stems from the western philosophy, "I think, therefore, I am."

From my experience, Old Teacher speaks only of life and those which live and have breathe. So, please, explain to me how Lao-Tzu is speaking of something inanimate?

ChiDragon, Correct me if I'm wrong the Tao Verse 11 is speaking of keeping a useful mind by keeping it empty, yet you seem to be saying individualistically or, rather, holistically, one should be able to live out their years in uselessness? A part of the whole may be useful, yet remain entirely useless to live out one's years?

cross referencing the zhuangzi, I've read the idea, what's the use in being useful... will not a tree grow large if a boat/wo/man cannot use it's wood for his/her ship? Therefore, is it not better to not be useful?

Wu wei and shame and embaressment and taboo
whitesilk replied to Ozrielos's topic in Daoist Discussion
exactly what is your idea of wu wei... (to me inaction), which can be taken further wu wei wu (action without action). also, exactly what is so taboo about death or excrement... both are actually quite natural... does an elephant use the john? Mill, a western Philosopher, stated something along the lines that the goal of, I believe, government, is to ensure the exercise of one's abilities in a society of equals. While you may feel seeking love in different places may hold some underlying attachment. I would say forgetting to the best of your ability would ensure the possibility of 'that funny feeling' Running may help you with that, as I have a personal theorey that an active body denotes a still mind, While a still body denotes an active mind. So remember to forget. -
should be done based off of need... someone had a cramp once, and I relieved it.
