This statements are not true. Chinese people depend on genealogy even for basic things as to how to speak to a relative. So the alusion to money is ridiculous. A mere strategy devised in order that readers associate automatically lineage with money-makers. Many families has a genealogy book. From there they chose the names of the newborns. You know that, you are not so young as to not take in account genealogy or lineage. Here, for instance, a family of Chinese (Taiwanese) doctors specialized in ophthalmology has registers of ten generations of practitioners. I know the 9th and 10th generation doctors and I have seen the familiar medical book. So lineage and genealogy matters a lot. All nations molded by confucian thought use genealogy, achievements and so on in the daily relations.

Here you have a book in which it is shown that daoists have different proffessions and approaches, not the stereotyped soft image depicted by the hippie new age of the '60s. https://www.amazon.es/Alchemists-Mediums-Magicians-Stories-Mystics/dp/1590306597 On the other hand, there were always debates between schools. In buddhism too, and very harsh, why ignore that and paint a totally equivocal picture of harmony and sweetness?

For the record, Opendao has not brough shame upon the school, on the contrary, he helped a lot of people to understand what is neidan and what is not.

I think this is a good example of someone formulating deep and interesting questions based on extensive reading and thought (I am far from being able to do that yet), and not the simple reaction of questioning without reflection or attention or out mere curiosity.
-
Very interesting. But... It seems to me that the author does not take into account that teh daoism itself is so heterogeneous that this professions are (and were) not at odds with daoist philosophy.
-
I think one result is precisely that. Even if we are beginners we learnt a lot about traditional understanding of daoism (in contrast with the personal approach that is widespread in the West where people with only a superficial reading of the Daodejing teaches daoism). So, after practicising and some discussions I think that the new students are able to recognize (at least to some extent) the alchemical tradition either in Daoism or in others paths. And this is no small achievement in a field in which everyone thinks he has the right to spread versions of schools tottally divorced of their source and aims.

I wouldn't say that it is wrong all the way but to me it seems more like the pot belly breath and the condensing breath from the gtummo exercises and others tibetan buddhist teachings (including tibetan techniques taught in China as a kind of buddhist qigong). So, I see it more like tibetan buddhism than neidan. If you want to do it, I think that could be better try to find a teacher first.

I think it is general enough as to include all people who is engaged in the practice of neidan irrespective of their lineage. We know, of course, that he is attacking personally Daode Centre, reaching even the level of "constant" (常) trolling, because many times his attacks has nothing to do with the discussion; but he is including all lineages and making irresponsible statements like the counselling of fasting without even know what kind of disease was spoken of (btw, I think that Aetherous knows his MTC well and doesn't need neither such counsels nor a false sympathy that only supports his attacks against a school). Coming back to the new cycle inaugurated by tao stillness what can be said, (leaving aside the discussion about authenticity) is that the level of attention and caring given to the student is far from what I had experienced before in most schools here. Even being online classes this is not at all an obstacle for the accurate corrections made by the two teachers. So, from the point of view of the commitment and the seriousness of the teachers' teaching, we can say that it is a real school. I hope that this can clarify some of tao stillness' doubts. Of course, we always have others experiences (subtle ones) but this is better to experience for one self. About the methods, well, I am far from being able to analise them but they are good and give you palpable results, and the order (daogong, neidan) is good and has a purpose, many schools today has no order or rationale about the practice.

The link posted has an advantage, you can click in the table of contents and you are directed to the book, not a searchable version but it is going closer. There was once an academic project related to the digitization of the daozang. Here a link with several versions of the daozang (some gigas each) and related info. Good daoist music too. Perhaps you already know it. http://www.byscrj.com/jmm/

I think it was Joseph Needham who did a reconstruction of an hypothetical Chinese original for the tabula smaragdina.

According to Lao Tzu and Zhuangzi what should be our train of thought All the time?
damdao replied to TheExaltedRonin's topic in Daoist Textual Studies
That a religious tradition comes from shamanism is a paradigm, a framework, it is not a proven fact, as far I know. It is a theory put in vogue after Eliade's works. It is the opposite to the traditional origin of religion, be it in Greece, Egypt or China. -
Whats is this about? Why not to attack each post from the very #2?

Allow me to introduce you the greatest sophist of all times: Taoist Texts. Debunked here: http://thedaobums.co...nix-to-penglai/ http://thedaobums.co...-dummies/page-4 ........... About Kunlun: there are lineages called Kunlun and they have nothing to do with Christenssen's one. You can find some references in Warrior Guards the Mountain, by A. Cozma. Welcome William, you can find many experiences sharing your ideas, from unpleasant to pleasant. But your posts are very appreciated. Welcome

Many of us think he is a troll... or a sophist. Hi Rudolf, It is not needed to leave, Daobums follows this rhythm always. But, you will find people willing to talk. I recommend you to read this thread: http://thedaobums.com/topic/36011-wen-and-wu-and-the-artful-application-of-words/ Also, Taoist Texts was debunked here: http://thedaobums.com/topic/38856-riding-the-phoenix-to-penglai/ So, I assume he was trying to seem smart with a new member. For further debunking you have: http://thedaobums.com/topic/39105-neidan-for-dummies/page-4

In fact, the first argument and "fight" was never about gender, it was about sophistry, neidan vs qigong, technical terms, tranlations, etc. After that came the psychic readings, the accusations, the divine female, etc. And a whole battery of newage tools to manipulate, now as Opendao denies that he has visited someone he is guilty for not remembering that. They not even consider the posibility that perhaps they are deluded and delusional, they insist. So you are guilty because the energetic scanning says so, it doen's matter what you say. Am I taking crazy pills or this is a complete nonsense?

I thought about that, and I remembered this, near my hotel, the Saint Nicholas Church. The best memories from Saint Petersburgh.

Hi Daeluin, as I was walking today this topic came to my mind, so I is probable that my hun had wandered today, visiting taobums of afar. As I was pondering about the thread, I thought that as you have now two psychic readings it could be fair and good to have two in person testimonies. So I will tell you my experience and that of a fellow student. I begin with my fellow's one because he has reiki training and knows energy readings. He told me, in Saint Petersbug, that he felt as a "motherly caring vibe coming from the chief instructor" in charge of our training during the online trainings. There, in Russia he doens't change at all thing impresion, on the contrary we (me and other fellow) said that this is true, and provided some anecdotes, of those days training there. So, there you have a double testimony, first psychic reading and then personal meeting. In my case, in can say that I have not felt any scaning sub rosa and the qi relation was that of an exchange between student and teacher (and, of course, this is bad for the teacher, my qi is not good at all), besides I have experienced healthy effects beyond those that you could expect from the training. The training has healthy effects, but there was more, like an energy healing. And this was result of the teacher's energy work following the technical procedures of the school. Finally, I should add that we went not (to the trainig in Russia) as believers but as sceptics, following numberless Opendao's advices about the importance of an actitude of scepticism. So, we went there with an analytical eye, even if we already had good results from the online training, we needed to see and evaluate for ourselves. I we are more than happy to be there training Yuxianpai and Wuliupai. Now you have real physical world testimonies.

I am not saying that post-natal cannot be used, but I think that the saying on the bamboo is in order to not over-sexualize and over-corporealize (if such words exist in English, but I doubt it) the practice. And this was discussed earlier too. And to be fair, I think that in those discussions the concepts pointed out (and clues made) by Opendao were far better and deeper than the ones of the Zhao Bichen's followers with all their sexual wording and focus. I will read those chapters by Liu Yiming in order to begin a dialogue and bring the bamboo text to discuss it. And please, lets get out of the psychic terrain, it is an accumulation of accusations without end.

I would never expected such a course in a thread. So, now Opendao is not even a human being...hmmm. It reminds me to the accusations made by Flowing Hands against TaiShanMen guys, it seems that when someone with psychic development feels upset s/he projects his fears like an black magic attack. It is not unusual, it happens a lot. Going to the preheaven post heaven thing, I was surprised in reading transforming post-natal essence in pre-natal qi. There is the saying that we need bamboo to repair a window made of bamboo, and no other substance could be used. And even beizong people cites a lot Zhang Boduan saying that if it has form you must not use it.

Besides, I think that the right understanding of the context lead us to the conclusion that this book was a theoretical basis and then, after that, comes the practical procedures and technology. One thing that must be pointed out is that give (or "to hand") a text to someone was not so simple, the fact that they have to choose an auspicious day is a clue that it is a kind of initiation.

No need to apologize. I like this:

With due respect Daeluin, I think that your way of expressing such ideas could be a little misleading. I don't know why you see as different seeking eternally for a teacher, and change internally and someone invites you to a class. I think that both are ways and none of them better than the other. But in some cases I think that is more realistic to look externally or actively for a teacher, otherwise chances to be invited are nearly zero. Besides, there different kind of cultivations, the subject of the thread says "neidan", I don't know if neidan is so extended as to be invited to a class of it.

This is not happenning and I am hallucinating. This kind of contradiction (ethical contradiction, by the way) is not possible, in any possible universe. A self-styled teacher that discredits all teachers (sort of Krishnamurti), it is not possible, Taoist Texts is not that kind of person... ...unless he admits he is a sophist ...

"Bone marrow washing". But I think that the best approach is that of Jeffrey Yuen, no weight lifting in genitals, only isometric qigong (in fact like Baihequan) preceded by Yijinjing.
