Certainly in recent times there are those who accidentally poison themselves with psychedelic inducing drugs/toxins.

Muslims have the highest life satisfaction: They have a feeling of 'oneness' that trumps Christians, Buddhists and yogis, study suggests

Oneness, Love, Truth points back to the Tao. -
Everything has already been accomplished. Nothing needs to be understood. Nothing is needed to be here right now. It can't be improved, if you tamper with it you will ruin it. True mastery is gained by letting things go their own way, it cannot be gained by interfering.

Esoteric vs Non-Esoteric Meditation Traditions
idiot_stimpy replied to Robin's topic in Buddhist Discussion
Some say there is more than one manifestation of the Buddha, such as Vairochana, Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi. Garab Dorje (c. 665), an Indian sage purportedly from Oddiyana. He is traditionally held to be the first human teacher of Dzogchen and was the first human to receive the complete direct transmission teachings of Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen from Vajrasattva. Several sources in the Pali Canon depict the idea that there are multiple Buddhas and that there will be many future Buddhas, all of which must train as bodhisattas. Vajrasattva is a bodhisattva in the Mahayana, Mantrayana/Vajrayana Buddhist traditions. In Chinese Buddhism and the Japanese Shingon tradition, Vajrasattva is the esoteric aspect of the bodhisattva Samantabhadra and is commonly associated with the student practitioner who through the master's teachings, attains an ever-enriching subtle and rarefied grounding in their esoteric practice. In Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrasattva is associated with the sambhogakÄya and purification practice. The above was mostly a copy and paste. -

A Shaolin monk once said: "It doesn't matter what type of practice you're doing, it is the way that whatever it is, be aware of what's going on on the inside."

My issue is, how would anyone know what complete means. Our understanding is only limited.
-
My opinion is I am not sure. I can only be sure if I experience it for myself, otherwise I am relying on faith alone.
-
If I would have to guess I would say Dzogchen.

Mahamudra at first, then Dzogchen. -
I remember the Jeff controversy and used to hang out a bit in the daobums live chat. Come and go infrequently now compared to when I joined in 2011. It was like a treasure trove of information not seen before with people sharing all types of information and experiences.

I started meditating to relax and I ended up sobbing with rage - am I stange?

Not strange at all. Repressed emotions finally able to be free again. Keep going through the pain by passively watching without engaging in it being good or bad. It may take awhile, but you will start feeling lighter and lighter and not weighed down by these stored emotions potentially held onto for years or more. -
In my opinion the Christ represents the enlightened mind. The dying of the old self and being born again now in union with the divine. We can see in the story of Jesus's death and rising. The mind was crucified on the cross, and after a period of time it was reborn. I believe the esoteric meaning is for those to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, by not literally being crucified, but a mental cleansing through deep meditation. I can see parallels with this in the dark night of the soul.

The Six Vajra Verses ~ Garab Dorje The nature of phenomena is nondual, but each one, in its own state, is beyond the limits of the mind. There is no concept that can define the condition of âwhat isâ but vision nevertheless manifests: all is good. Everything has already been accomplished, and so, having overcome the sickness of effort, one finds oneself in the self-perfected state: this is contemplation. from the book Dzogchen: The Self-Perfected State translated by John Shane
