  1. War, Peace, and Putin

I've edited the accompanying description (quoted above) slightly to make it a little less "intense". In Europe, we have cohabited with the Bear in our backyard for a thousand years, without having a permanent accident. Personally, I'd be quite happy to continue to live happily in a Europe that's not a battlefield. Incidentally, the EU was the practical response to the cartoon below (and I'll grant that it - the EU - still needs a bit more fine tuning).
  2. Sunrise, Sunset, Night.

I suspect that MH probably understands my point because of his significantly more extensive life-experience.
  3. Again Effi, thank you for your reply. I've no further questions.
  4. Sunrise, Sunset, Night.

I asked a very simple question in response to the counterpoint that you're trying to make. I can understand why, under these circumstances, you choose to avoid answering that question and why you continue to belabour your point of view. However, in my experience, that eliminates the possibility of a productive conversation.
  5. Effi, Thanks for your detailed and cogent reply. However, for the sake of clarity, a supplemental question in response to an element of your reply. Were you implying that your school is the only Way?
  6. Sunrise, Sunset, Night.

Who knows what they'll wake up to in the morning (or even if they'll wake up)? Do you?
  7. So, Effi, what of those who do not have these qualities? Are they not the very ones most in need of help (as opposed to rejection) by your school?

  9. Perhaps the true skill is to create locate health, peace and happiness in our society, family and in relationships selves"? In which case, that might resonate with others?

I appreciate the sentiment Steve, however, in my view, any practice that's dependent on luck wouldn't be viable. I'd choose only practice that's entirely evidence-based, guaranteed to end suffering and reproducible by anyone/everyone.
  11. In fact, I'm not interested in opinions.
  12. We may long for wholeness, suggests Jon Kabat-Zinn, but the truth is that it is already here and already ours. The practice of mindfulness holds the possibility of not just a fleeting sense of contentment, but a true embracing of a deeper unity that envelops and permeates our lives. With Mindfulness for Beginners you are invited to learn how to transform your relationship to the way you think, feel, love, work, and play—and thereby awaken to and embody more completely who you really are. Here, the teacher, scientist, and clinician who first demonstrated the benefits of mindfulness within mainstream Western medicine offers a book that you can use in three unique ways: as a collection of reflections and practices to be opened and explored at random; as an illuminating and engaging start-to-finish read; or as an unfolding “lesson- a-day” primer on mindfulness practice. Beginning and advanced meditators alike will discover in these pages a valuable distillation of the key attitudes and essential practices that Jon Kabat-Zinn has found most useful with his students, including: Why heartfulness is synonymous with true mindfulness The value of coming back to our bodies and to our senses over and over again How our thoughts “self-liberate” when touched by awareness Moving beyond our “story” into direct experience Stabilizing our attention and presence amidst daily activities The three poisons that cause suffering—and their antidotes How mindfulness heals, even after the fact Reclaiming our wholeness, and more The prescription for living a more mindful life seems simple enough: return your awareness again and again to whatever is going on. But if you’ve tried it, you know that here is where all the questions and challenges really begin. Mindfulness for Beginners provides welcome answers, insights, and instruction to help us make that shift, moment by moment, into a more spacious, clear, reliable, and loving connection with ourselves and the world. Includes a complete CD with five guided mindfulness meditations by Jon Kabat-Zinn, selected from the audio program that inspired this book. Source
  13. Just scanned the Wikipedia article, reflected a bit and come to a conclusion myself. Interested in other opinions. No justification necessary but feel free to post reasoning if you want.
