On a serious note, the only benchmark is happiness. That's what everyone wants but they look towards the apparent objects (the 10,000 things ) instead of what they already have eternally, the Subject - Consciousness, the Self, Atman (the Tao )

You're entitled to hold whatever belief you choose - right or wrong

I really don't care what label you want to use None that you're able to follow

That's not my experience
-
No. It is my own direct experience.

I am not my body

Unfortunately, it doesn't accord with reality. If you're unsure whether you exist or not, you have no possible axiomatic starting point. I'd suggest that you have a really good think about whether you want to try to argue that you don't exist.

Again, what point are you trying to make? Parmenides is giving a clear line of possible investigation - Nagarjuna is not. The Self is permanent, holding that it is not is untrue.
-
I'm assuming that this is some point that you want to make in response to what Parmenides said:- Now then, I will instruct you; hear what I say: Two paths are open to investigation. The first says: being is and non-being is not. It is the path of certainty, because it follows the truth. The other says: being is not, therefore non-being is. This misdirected path, I tell you, cannot lead to a sound conviction For, if this statement were true, it would not be possible for you to conceive of non-being, nor to name it.

Moderation vs. reading comprehension vs. forum rules

There's a section for upcoming events - they should perhaps post there if they wish to avoid/control feedback -

Yes. Completely different issue. -

I'd fundamentally disagree with that premise. The OP's purpose is not the issue and s/he doesn't own the thread. In this particular case, some people thought that there was a problem regarding sleep-deprivation and chose to comment, as is their right (and perhaps their duty - as they saw it). How they chose to voice that particular concern may or may not be a problem - that is ultimately for the Mods to decide If someone wants to own a thread, it's easy enough to start one in their Personal Practice Forum, otherwise, they need to be prepared to deal with feedback - unless there's a fundamental shift in the Founding Principles, which are the USP of TTBs. -
So how do you guys do stuff? Idiot's guide in plain english?

RAOFL Excellent advice!!! I'd add secular Mindfulness as well - it's less contentious and it still packs all of the punch -

As I've said many times in the past, I'm glad that I'm not a Mod and kudos to those who take on the job. I think it's worth adding that we shouldn't expect them to be perfect either Furthermore, sometimes (often/usually perhaps) there's no solution with which all parties will accept. Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case here. -

I'd say that neutrality is different to indifference and that it's possible to learn both here Indifference can be benevolent or it can be cold. Benevolent indifference isn't neutral (and I find it's usually the most useful position to adopt) -

It is a very, very difficult and complex situation. Thank you for clarifying. -

Yes, I've noticed that about you. However, perhaps some people are different. -

FWIW I was extremely suprised about this decision and I also fail to spot the rationale. I think that this is probablty the best explanation for what happened: - Hopefully, all those concerned (particularly Vitalli, Mods and you) have learned something about this forum environment and will move on. -

It's a good job that those who are getting tired have the option to use the ignore button. Or they could use the opportunity attempt to cultivate a state of indifference perhaps? -

@ soaren You would probably find secular mindfuness helpful I'd suggest starting with Jon Kabbat-Zinn's* Mindfulness for Beginners: Reclaiming the Present Moment-and Your Life Buy the copy that includes the CD with various practices and do them for a few months - secular mindfulness has been clinically evaluated and it actually works. Soundtracks on the CD: - 01 Eating Meditation 02 Mindfulness of Breathing 03 Mindfulness of the Body as a Whole 04 Mindfulness of Sound, Thoughts and Emotions 05 Mindfulness as Pure Awareness ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, is the founder and director of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and associate professor of medicine in the Division of Preventative and Behavioral Medicine. His clinic was featured in 1993 in the public television series Healing and the Mind with Bill Moyers. Jon Kabat-Zinn is the author of Wherever You Go, There You Are and Full-Catastrophe Living: Using Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness. He is internationally known for his work as a scientist, writer, and meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society. He is professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School
