  1. What defines a Daoist?

Thinker, If anyone asks 'm going to pretend that I meant my post to allude to all of the points you've mentioned. Phi92, I agree that just because a person goes to Church on Sunday, or Mosque on Friday, etc doesn't make them a nicer / better person. As some seem to think that "being good" one day a week, gives them leeway to act like a Prat the rest of the week !! I know some Christians that will only trust fellow Christians, I know some Hindus & some Muslims that will likewise only deal with those of the same faith. But I've also met criminals of all creeds & faiths.
  2. yellow (a playful hello)

Mellow !! Same to You !
  3. What defines a Daoist?

Taoists (aka Daoists) must always be seen "out" wearing a T-Shirt emblazoned with the Legend "I am a Taoist". If they own a Car or a Bike, it must have a Yin-Yang or Tai Ji symbol somewhere on it. They should also give their offspring "Taoist" names, just to emphasise the point that they are Taoists, to others. Finally, if anyone else disagrees that you're a serene, calm, peace loving, easy going, nature loving Taoist. Then you should smack them in the mouth !!! Basher
  4. manditory hello

Welcome Tre. Always good to hear from another "Bum" on the Path. I would be interested to hear which fighting arts you study / use iro "Fighting Applications". As I've often heard that mixing techniques from different sources can be more of a hinderence. (Just don't tell those MMA guys in their cages !!!) LOL Basher
  5. New Guy

Drinking anything Ice Cold is apparently bad for you, according to the Taoist Ch'ang Ming Diet / Health guidelines. As your body will use up a lot of Energy warming itself up again. Saying that, I still occasionally drink a cold Coke on a hot day. Basher
  6. Hello

1,000 Monks = 1,000 different Translations of the DDJ. IMHO (To Paraphrase somebody a lot cleverer than me !) welcome aboard Thinker. Basher

  8. Hello

Welcome Amina, please feel free to tell us more... Basher
  9. Trolling and Off-topic disruptions

Abso-blooming-lutely !!! Occasionally a "poster" will get a little carried away & write something that can be a little OTT. Perhaps they read something that hit a nerve & just had to air their views... no problem with that. But all those guilty of being Trolls 24/7 should go stand on the Naughty Step !!! LOL
  10. Say something completely undisputable

Hmmm... is it undisputable ? I've always thought it was indisputable !!! Or maybe that's just an "English" thing, like Colour instead of Color, etc.
  11. New Guy Here Saying Hi

Unfortunately I don't know the exact reasoning behind this. As I originally studied the various Lee Arts in the 1980's and I've probably forgotten loads of important information. Believe it's something to do with not overburdening the kidneys. But I do remember that the Grandmaster always emphasised that we should practise the various arts with our tongue touching the roof of our mouths. Partly to "complete" the MCO. He also said that our saliva should always be swallowed to improve our health / retain our energies. I do still have a copy of the Chang Ming Diet Book, but it's in Archive storage (along with 100's of my other books). I'll see if I can dig it out. But in the meantime, anybody can get a copy quite cheaply from one of those on-line shops. Unfortunately, after the death of Chee Soo (in 1994 ?), the top six UK Instructors each set up their own organisations. as they were in different parts of the UK. Each teaches (what they believe) to be the real Lee / Li arts. Some of these continue to promote the Chang Ming Diet, others do not. Basher
  12. New Guy Here Saying Hi

Howard Gibbon, here in the UK, is one of the late grandmaster Chee Soo's highest graded Instructors. Here's a link to the Lee / Li Family "Taoist Diet Sheet", I hope that you find it to be of some interest. http://www.howardgibbon.com/Chang-Ming-Diet.html Basher

Interesting....welcome to TTB's. One of my favourite Books on Taoist Health / Diet is: The Tao of Long Life - Ch'ang Ming (Paperback - 1982 reprint) Aquarian Press (by Professor Chee Soo). Mostly Vegetarian diet, with emphasis on eating organic, locally grown food. Basher

Is this meant to be a "stream of consciousness" type of thing... Or did you just post a random word on here, so that you can now post elsewhere on TTB's Forum ? Other ????
  15. Hello, I'm starting my journey and need assistance.

Welcome to the Tao Bums my friend. As you're already aware, we are all on our own journeys. Perhaps on different paths, or maybe just a little further along on the same path. Me ? I'm still looking for sign stating "the Path starts here !" Lots of information on here about various Chi Kung / Qi Gong exercises and techniques to help improve your Health / Energies.
  16. The Tao of Kierkegaard

I seem to remember a certain Taoist Professor that liked to teach us all T'ai Chi Ch'uan & Kung Fu, that way. I thought that (at a rather basic level) it was because if you "give" all of the answers to a student whenever they asked you a question. They (perhaps) wouldn't fully understand, learn or appreciate what you were teaching them. But if you pointed them in the right direction, they would be able to find and experience the "answers" for themselves. Also, the work involved in "getting there" would make it easier for them to remember !
  17. Hi, I'm new here

Welcome, from another Beginner. The more I read on this forum, the more of a Beginner I realise I am. Basher
  18. What do you want for Christmas?

Kids, Shopkeepers & Christmas Card / Wrapping Paper Manufacturers mostly IMHO !!! As for the rest of us, it's a pain trying to do any "normal" shopping, during a one hour lunchbreak in December. When the rest of the population decides to wander around slowly & aimlessly getting in everyone else's way.. Bah, Humbug !!! LOL Basher
  19. What do you want for Christmas?

Dear Santa, a Lottery win would be quite nice around now, in order that: 1: All Family, Friends, etc can get the Presents they deserve, rather than the ones I can actually afford. 2: Ditto (big time) for my Partner, as she's always put herself last, behind kids, me, her mum, etc etc. 3: I'd like to make a BIG donation to various charities..... 4: We''d both like to have enough money / savings, to give up work (hate Monday mornings). She'd then like to do Charity work, I'd like to study the Li Arts full time. In order to help improve the health of others, as well as myself. But failing a HUGE win, a few extra quid would be useful to help do up the House. As the Roofs leaking... Ta Basher
  20. Hi.

    Hi Yourself !
  21. What is / are "Nafs" ? Is that something like a persons Ego ? Agree, because if you cannot love yourself & who you are, how can you possibly love others ? Final point, are you presuming that those who don't follow / believe in any sort of a God / Gods, aren't "Special" ? Basher
  22. Hello...

    Welcome home !! Basher
  23. If "unloved" or even just feeling un-loved, the World can seem to be a very lonely / scary place at times. If & when you manage to truly Love another person, putting them & their needs before your own. Things will seem a little less daunting, as you can boost each others confidence. You're really lucky if they feel the same way about you and treat you in the same way. It's easy to fall in Love, harder to stay in Love when the boredom, stresses and strains of everyday Life begin to set in. Don't let Bills, Debts, screaming kids, Mothers-in-law, etc drive the two of you apart. Face things together, support one another & your relationship will become stronger. Don't keep secrets from one another, share everything openly and honestly. That way, at least one person on the Planet will think you're really special (but it won't be you !!!) Basher (All just IMHO obviously)
  24. NeiKung Master throwdown of all showdowns

Don't confuse "Bashar" with Basher !!!! (As I'm neither super powerful, nor enlightened)
