Welcome, Wisdom Seeker. I hope that you find what you're looking for. Whether here on the Tao Bums or elsewhere. Basher

I only tend to glance at posts / topics that are of personal interest to me. But it's usually interesting to read a Newcomers introduction to the rest of us Bums, via their first post in the Lobby. As you have written, just because you're a newcomer to this particular website, doesn't make you a beginner in anything else. Lots of variety in both age and experience here. Surely that's a good thing. The title of your first post probably gave the impression that you were only doing it so that you could post something else, in another part of the website. But it's sometimes difficult to understand another persons true "intent", however I totally believe Stosh was trying to be funny / welcoming. Back on topic, I've no actual "experience" of Ba Gua (Pa Kua) apart from watching the usual videos of people walking the circle (was it Hung I Hsiang ?). Believe it was an old BBC show called "The Way of the Warrior". But I did find Robert W. Smith's books very interesting. Basher

Why are there fewer women than men in search of Enlightenment and Freedom from Samsara?

Basher is stepping away....... -
Greetings from an argentinean in Costa Rica and some question about zen
Basher replied to laralara's topic in Welcome
Welcome Lara, your English is extremely good for a Spanish teaching Argentinian based in Costa Rica ! I'm sure that we'll be able to understand what you mean. Interesting post regarding Good verses Evil, Right and Wrong, etc. Could we have one without the other ? Basher -
Well I've cut right back on the Beer !!! (It's a start) LOL

So True. LOL. Herd Animals maybe ? Or perhaps we're all just Mice, running around on our little wheels going no-where....some faster than others. If money didn't matter and you were warm & fed... what would you choose to do with your life ? Work hard in any Office for 40 years, making lots of money for somebody else ? I don't think so ! -
To paraphrase one of my Instructors favourite sayings..... "Without the correct Intent, Technique & Energy you are just waving your arms about in the air !"

I think "DreamBliss" must be very accomplished.... Anybody that can draw, take photographs & play the guitar, whilst cycling must have amazing co-ordination !! Welcome Strange Person, to the land of some even stranger people. -
Chang, posts like yours make me realise how utterly insensitive I am (or have been in the past) to the trials & tribulations of Females everywhere. I think I must wander about with Blinkers on !! I was under the (mistaken) impression that in the modern world, we are all NOW treated as equals. Yesterday a female friend on Facebook sent me a "Cause" iro Gendercide, (ie Parents in India/china etc killing their own babies, just because they're Girls !!) Today I read your Post. Co-incidence ? Not so sure, think somebody/something is giving me a kick up the A**e and telling me to WAKE UP !!! I'm going to order a copy of this Book shortly, as sounds well worth a read. Basher

Hi Melanie, off the top of my head I can only think of "The Tao of Pooh" & "The Te of Piglet" by Benjamin Hoff, in this category. Both of which, I believe you've already read (unless I've mixed you up with somebody else). Reminds me of a story....A Taoist goes up to a Hot Dog Vendor & asks him to "Make me one with Everything" !!! (Oh dear)

Profuse apologies if there's already a thread for this somewhere, but I couldn't find one using the TB search facility. Last year, a young guy from Bradford, England called Steven Frayne, burst on to the Worldwide "Magic" scene. By (Apparently) walking on water, across part of the River Thames. This slightly built man suffered from a debilitating form of Crohn's disease in his youth. Yet despite his size, he appears to be able to demonstate feats of incredible strength. This year, in the second series of his TV show, (amongst other amazing looking things) he appeared to levitate whilst amongst a group of sightseers gathered around the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio. Now his official website, emphasises that he is an Illusionist: http://www.dynamomagician.com/about/ But what do the Tao Bums think about him & his show ? Suffering from Crohn's might have made him picked on in school. Which might have made him withdrawn & as stated on his website, he learnt "magic tricks" to stop the Bullying. But could Crohn's actually enhance any natural abilities ? Presuming that there are no "stooges" or camera / editing tricks involved. How do you 1) walk on water and 2) levitate ? Basher (the confuzzled)

Welcome to the Tao Bums, from another "beginner" on the Path... Many years ago, I heard that the Lee (Li) Tai Chi Grandmaster who had devoted 50 years of his life to learning the Internal Arts, told one of his senior students. At last I believe I've managed to master move number one !!! LOL Basher

Whilst we can learn a lot from Books, DVD's etc. There's nothing better than being taught by a "Master" or proper Instructor of the Internal Arts. Think about learning to Swim or Ride a Bicycle. You could read as many "How-To" Books & watch as many Tuition DVD's as you like. But as you're already aware, you'd only really "learn" by doing it. If you get taught by somebody who can already do it, you're a lot less likely to make elementary mistakes. It's a lot safer and you're also a lot more likely to commit yourself to see it through. (All of course, IMHO)

I don't want to think of my Doctor's "Entrance" !!!

After reading your original post & the various interesting replies in the Forum. I decided to visit the website iro Tienko Ting & have now bought his Book via Amazoff (or similar). Only just received it & will begin reading with interest. Basher http://www.naturalch...What_Is_NCM.php P.S.:Oh, and I don't do any impressions !!!

More to the point... here. http://www.naturalchimovement.com/Activation/RemoteActivation.php Global Remote Activation, WOW and only US$180 !!!! Could this possibly work ? Over the years, I've attended Classes / Courses with various Instructors of Internal / Healing Arts. Sometimes I've been able to feel their / my Energies, sometimes not. But at least they've been in the same room, if not in actual physical contact with me at some point. But I would be interested to hear from anybody that's had theirs "turned on" by someone not even in the same Zip / Post Code !!

Agree that it would be interesting to try and study / understand the thoughts / ideas of Confucius. Why hasn't anybody thought of creating a "Confucian Bums" website, I wonder ?
-
Exactly !!! You have to "look within" your Pockets...
-
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear .... Love my Dogs, hate your Jokes !!
-
Whenever I've lost / mislaid something, it usually turns up in the pocket of another Suit or pair of Trousers. Suggest you try looking there first, before getting another one !! Of course it could be in "Lost Property"...

Origin: Idiot Middle English (denoting a person of low intelligence): via Old French from Latin idiota 'ignorant person', from Greek idiōtēs 'private person, layman, ignorant person', from idios 'own, private' Here's the Paradox. Is the person who knows they're an Idiot, really such an Idiot ? Or are they just self-aware of their own limitations (real or perceived) ? Lots of people pretend / appear to be intelligent, but in reality are just Idiots !!! (Like me). Welcome to the Tao Bums my friend. Basher
