Shaman is witch. It has many names in different cultures and doing more or less similar things all over the world. The name Shaman has been getting more popularly used since Carlos Castaneda's writings in 1960s, to describe witches in tribes. There is no universal term for these people in Africa, central America, Siberia, China, South East Asia, Europe and India. This term Shaman has even been spread to space, when Master Logray became the Shaman of Bright Tree Village, details can be found in Star Wars 6. For centuries, China doesn't really have witches (ε·«). So who serves the above functions? - Taoism. Taoism religion consists of QuanZhen temples, they are most conspicuous and fit into what is described as religion. But under this umbrella of Taoism, it is increasingly mixed with witchcraft. The 2nd main branch of Taoism is ZhengYi. They are considered as the magical arm, the ceremonies and ritual servers, run worship temples (most of them don't work in formal temples). It has witch or Shaman elements. ZhengYi is extremely diversified. So it is arguable some of them are really Taoist or not, as many are just being called "Sifu". If ZhengYi is less known and associated with the supernatural side, there is another main branch which is even more obscure. They are believed to be descendants of the White Lotus which is one of the earliest Taoist groups. They are the Sin Tin Toa (Primordial Toa). They worship Buddhist deities, well versed in Neidan, also have magic. They were banned in China in Qing Dynasty. In early communist China, they were regarded as reactionary, which was one of the worst possible accusation. Nowadays they are widely spread in Taiwan, and estimated in 25-40% of the temples in Hong Kong, also exist in Japan and Vietnam. Some scholars/researchers regard these more fringe factions as China's folk religions. While for normal people, they are loosely regarded as Taoists. It is not easy to draw the line between formal religion, folk religion, witchcraft, superstition, and, frauds.

I happen to read a magazine re Taoism in library. It says 藏密 (tibetan buddhism) was influenced by Taoist. And in turn 印密 (tibetan Buddhist in India), was in turn affected by Taoist methods and thinkings, but 印密 has been extinct.

  6. It may be even better if you ask ChatGPT to write something based on your description of exparagarate creatures. Awaken can lie, you can lie and I can lie. But ChatGPT doesn't lie and unable to lie. "I am not programmed to provide answers that are intentionally misleading or to give only answers that are designed to be pleasing or agreeable....". But I understand the expargarate creatures may have influenced the development of ChatGPT indirectly when smart phones are used to in the conversations. Under that kind of communication, expargarate creatures may be able to lie.
  7. I think if we ask about something obscure. The AI cannot find too much info. So it will use whatever available. The mentioning of Dark Liver is almost non existent in English and very rare in Chinese. So when the AI searches, it might come and make use of info here. When Awaken mentions it so often, the AI will mainly base on her words to reply. So it sounds like Awaken.
  8. Does anyone meditation with a timer? Or not?

I used an apps that can customize ring tone, block calls, set interval timers e.g. one ring for 1/2 hour and another for 1 hour. Nowadays just put a big clock in front, tired of waiting it to ring.

No. Btw, MCO can be started by simple means like muscle control, auto suggestion and visualization. But they are of not much purpose and sometimes not good for health.
  10. Upper dantian

No. You need a teacher. Not on the method. But you need someone to ask if something happened.

Your Chi follows your concentration. If you concentrates on your index finger, you can feel it swells, getting hot etc. It is because blood, body fluid and Chi go there. Sometimes it could be safer to check your blood pressure during your meditation. Those intelligent watches seem handy, though they are not accurate. If you solely want to reduce thoughts, then concentrates anywhere supposedly is to be the same. Naturally there are personal preferences too.

It is my first encounter this word ridgepole. Some interpret Wuji as full of potential of all possibilities.

What Mantra is that? @exorcist_1699's comment presumes you are chanting the Buddha's name as common in Pure Land Buddhism. But if you are chanting some ancient secret sounds as common in Hindu or Tibetan Buddhist teachings, it is different matter. Then how the UDT fits into what you are doing, if at all, depends. In Neidan, there are 2 broad categories of cultivation, one is instant, another is step by step. The instant methodologies are similar to Zen, often concentrates on the UDT. While the step by step, which is most common, usually starts with LDT. As stated by exorcist, the instant method actually is more difficult and most people fail. Anyway nowadays no one will teach you concentrate on the UDT or third eye area, because it is well known to create sensation of head swelling, Chi stuck there and high blood pressure.

Indeed, there are so many "diseases" nowadays that needs medicine. Lazy, dumb, not attentive, too active, sad..... These are supposed to be characters, not sicknesses.

Don't you think China itself, full of nationalist sentiment now, doesn't do any scientific experiments themselves over the past decades? over this national treasure? They did and confirmed some interesting findings but not conclusive of the nature. Yet these findings are refuted by other China scientists as unscientifically carried out and very often frauds, even with scientific circle collaborations. These are the scientific, academic and political situation. For business, if this Faqi is really so effective in healing, won't there be tens of thousands of Chi Kung technicians everywhere, healing and collecting fees? Anyway training for Faqi is not that difficult. It doesn't happen in real life. So I think one more experiment won't do any good, especially when it is commissioned by the interested party itself. It would be viewed as advertisement.

Chi is not unlike ghosts or UFOs. The phenomenon is real, but no one can prove its existence. Faqi is actually small stuff in this unknown universe of Chi. The more potent or famous one is ε‡Œη©Ίε‹, translate as Volley? Strength. It means you can use the Chi to attack someone without physical contact. It is mostly used in TaiChi or martial arts areas. Only the highest grade teacher can master it. But sometimes people stumble on developing it for a short time. Videos showing it are, in my opinion, fakes. But this phenomenon has existed for centuries.
  17. Micro Qigong?

I also do that. More Neigong than Qigong. Increases strength a lot.
  18. Micro Qigong?

There are. You can try this. It is a dismantled and re-expanded version of Chi Kung, from its ancestor version. You can learn the first style only. Very simple, safe, free, need no space. If it is "micro" enough to you?

Your situation is actually common. I call It Lost Civilization. When you learn from a teacher, he could retire, incapacitated, imprisoned, emigrated, or dead. You may not be able to afford the fee etc. Then you are stuck forever. If your teacher belongs to a well-known lineage, then there is a chance to look for his teacher, his fellow disciples, his earlier disciples, his "master uncle" etc for similar teaching, provided what he taught was the lineage's skills, not his own inventions. If the teacher is a standalone inventor as in your example, then there is nothing similar to draw from. This is similar to buying a phone from an obscure manufacturer, you are on your own. It is why many Chinese arts are lost over the ages. The disciples could not obtain the full teaching of their masters due to many reasons. Then that school is getting less and less powerful over generations until they become a show, shored up by magics or tales. I have walked away from an interesting art, as it is too obscure, completely not available on internet or even books. So what happen if I don't have access to that avenue? I have sufficient experiences of teachers passed away. If you and your people are still young enough, look for something else. If not, continue.
  20. I would also be very skeptical. From the experiences of 80s to 90s, it is advisable not only invite journalists and scientists to attend such demonstrations, but stage magicians as well.
  21. Presume you have come across this word 炁. This is the "Real Chi" 真氣, as against the normal breath, or the top cosmic force. All the special powers, access to other realms and physical transformation is from this 炁 . In the old days, people were confused by the word 氣,so they coined a new word. This refers to your earlier question in one of your posts. The three types of Chi exhibits quite different properties. But they are the same thing after all. You can treat it as a continuum, from very light to very dense. In general, the top levels cannot be accessed directly, nor changed. While the breathing level is subjected to manipulation by breathing exercises, 吐納。 Most of the QGs, are using breath manipulation, with physical movements and along with some mind techniques. The aim is to generate this real Chi. Then what is this QG level Chi? It consists of breaths, gases, but also body fluid, particles, enzymes, hormones and even some wastes. Another component is electrical impulses, vibrations and resonance. When these pass through areas, they create many phenomenons, e.g. activates some particular neurons, thereby exhibits feeling of seeing light.
  22. Even today most of QG are Tao Yin, moving things, drawing Chi around. While static ones are usually not.
  23. I think the situation is not static. A teacher could gather his power in early stage, abuse it later and revert back to normal if he repent (or feel the situation is not right). At a particular moment, the teacher can be any one of the above. It is always wise to be paying some attention, whoever they are.
  24. 100 Days of practice/to persevere or not

In the beginning stage, a Qigong exercise should be able to manifest some results within 100 days, in general much shorter than that. But the saying of 100 days is strange. Because in Neidan books, it often talks about 100 days laying the foundation, but it doesn't mean starting an exercise for 100 days. The "laying foundation" though is a bit off topic. What I mean is not the first 6 months to 1 or even sometimes 2 years. I mean beyond 2 years, to decades. The feeling of Chi disappeared. Of course there would be sensations during the exercise itself. But these rather belong to the sport sensation than the "Chi" sensation. On the physical change in the body, there are probably other factors at work during a longer period. So it is not conclusive whether a Qigong exercise attributes to a certain change in body strength, flexibility etc etc.
  25. 100 Days of practice/to persevere or not

I mean Qigong usually have some effects, at first. After a while, there is no longer discernible effects. I think Pilates serve different purposes from Qigong. Qigong also has many stretching functions. But in general I don't like stretching inside Qigong, Neigong, Kung Fu or Chinese dance. Because they often stretch in standing or movement mode, tend to be vigorous, easy to hurt as one needs to take care of movement, balance and stretching together. While Yoga, and Pilates too, have many stationery stretching. It is far more safer and can be fine tuned.
