  1. Guru Viking: Daoist Inner Alchemy - Damo Mitchell

I suppose his methods are effective since he has many students. Authenticity, in most traditions, often means undiluted unaltered teaching pass down over generations and having names of each master in the lineage known. Once you mix it, it is no longer "authentic" but could be better or worse. This is a culture thing. Chinese typically think the founding masters' methods are the best and subsequent generations are getting less and less of it. They often hype my method is the "Real xx".
  2. How my body decided to kill itself

Your experience is with dedicated practitioners in India. How about those normal people taking up Yoga or pranayama on a casual basis, to improve health, look better, or being fashionable etc, do they encounter Kundalini-like symptoms regularly? And how about people don't even do Yoga? Do they have spontaneous symptoms?
  3. Guru Viking: Daoist Inner Alchemy - Damo Mitchell

I think Damo Mitchell is not selling so called authentic Gongs . There are 2 types of teachers, one type is follow their own tradition to the full, no alteration or refinement is allowed. Another type is having their own modification and inventions, in fact, a new product. His Lotus Neigong seems to be the later. Teachers need to adjust customize teachings according to the needs of their students. It may not be what they are doing themselves.
  4. How my body decided to kill itself

Cloud444 most likely has the depletion of Yin and raging hollow fire problems as you said. Yet I wonder if it is the main cause. His pain and nerve problems seem a bit odd or too serious against typical syndromes, presuming whatever he said is truthful and fair assessment of his conditions. I also don't believe it is Kundalini. There might be spontaneous version of it. Even that it would be rare and not long lasting. Otherwise every street in India got patients like him, or spontaneous gurus for those who can make use of it.
  5. So you mean Zang Zung is the legendary Shamballa for ancestor of Persian ancestors and Tibetans ?
  6. You are talking about Taoist alchemy. But it is only a very minor, though elitist part of Taoism. Buddhist ideas have far more exposures on internet, books, TVs, talks and even daily conversations. Taoists still have upper hands on ceremonies, fortune telling and magical, while qigong/martial arts/medicine are not perceived as uniquely "Taoist".
  7. Combining Qigong and Yungdrung Bon practice?

One of the factors affecting different internal arts is the location. This is often overlooked. Tibetan approach has been developed in Himalayas, which is a high altitude, cold, dry place. While China's qigong thrives in usually lower altitude, warmer, wetter. Indian Yoga grows in much wetter and hotter climate. Over the centuries, the arts naturally have to adopt to the local climate, races and normal sicknesses. It is why you say the Tibetan systems are forceful and fiery to the extreme, pure yang, while the Daoist systems seem more balanced. Just look at the thermometer, then you know why it needs to be more fiery. It is also the reason why Indian Yoga adopts a more lying down approach, while Qigong is more on standing. So perhaps you need a bit more standing, moving type of cultivation. You can find them within your current system if possible. There is a need to take into account the origin of the particular art, your own location now and to a less extent - your hereditary. Let say if you stay in southern India or south east Asia, then it may be better to concentrate in Indian Yoga. If you stay in Alps or Andes, then it is easy. Even with the same tradition, a person's body determines what are the more appropriate particular exercises. A fat person would need to deal with heat problem. A thin person needs to move more while bear in mind conserving energy. Lastly I don't think it is prudent to mix breathing from different traditions, while movements are generally easier to mix.
  8. Tai Chi Maniac

I heard a Taichi teacher said, his students - mostly elderly ladies have improved their health and become livelier and happier. But he added that over the years these students seldom improve their levels. Their well being was a result of a social group with common purpose and have dim sum after the lessons.

Since you mentioned the legs, Taichi and ZZ are not intended to strengthen the legs as primary purpose (though it is primary requirement); while balance, sinking of Chi and not to be dislodged are the objectives. This explanation refers to Taichi's original purpose of hand combat only. Indeed the slow moving of legs in TaiChi long form is equivalent to ZZ. In the old days masters didn't like ZZ as it makes the body rigid which is a handicap to respond to situations. They prefer this "moving ZZ" more. There are trainings on one leg support in Taichi, like one leg stand, another leg swing in different directions. But again, the purpose is more on balance. There are physiological tests that check your brain? function by asking you to stand on one leg, close your eyes etc. Taichi people always do it well.
  10. Yes, there have been criticism on Taoism is having too much tolerance that it loses its own character. This is not unlike some anti-immigrant sentiment nowadays. Taoist scripture include Buddhist classics, temple include Buddhist gods , many people don't know what is the difference between Taoist and Buddhist temples. The practice of 3/5 religions unity and from the same source further erodes its identity (三教合一,五教同源).
  11. Traditionally we are doing that. 3 religions as one and 5 religions at peace. But if religions are not at war with each other, why would we have the tendency to treat them as one?

I recall ChiDragon now. Used to admire his house. His ZZ on a wooden structure is not from Taichi. Mostly from external martial arts.
  13. I think Taoist world creation is an energy model, how from nothing/one to two and to diversity. While Christian world creation is how this particular world is created. Buddhist model is geographical, how the world consists of many many galaxies, to the micro particles world. Hindu is a construction model, worlds are created and destroyed.

I googled somewhat. His lineage is controversial. Anyway Wang claims to be the 18th generation transmitter of Long Men School. I think the writer Pregadio refers to the Grand Master lineage only. Wang is not a Grand Master. He is one of the many disciples and students, whose Sifu is 17th generation or earlier. That makes him 18G. To compare, the 21st generation Grand Master and Chief Disciplinary Officer of QuenZhen LongMen School was a Ching Dynasty person who passed away in 1936. While Wang was born in 1949.

The terms mean different things at different time irrespective of their original meaning in the dictionary and usages. Take 道友 as example, it has been synonymous with heroine addicts. However not too many people are interested in heroine these days. So this term is not so well known and used. Perhaps it catches new meanings in the future. The Chinese word comrade has picked up the meaning of homosexuality, probably from overseas. It has been so widely understood that the General Secretary Xi has instructed to revive the proper address of Comrade amongst Communist party members.

Why? Is it mainly due to the writing characters? I think foreigners learn speaking Mandarin reasonably. But they drop out due to writing and reading. There is an interesting development in recent decades. Some Chinese kids prefer English as it is easier, though it is rare. It doesn't happen in the old days when students need to rote learning and recite a whole chapter. Taoist teachers frequently expect students to recite the DDJ. Don't know what went wrong with those modern language teaching methods.

信徒 - believers, all kinds 教徒 - usually refer to believer of Christianities 道徒 - some sources say refers to believers in cults and superstitions, bad connotation 佛徒 - Buddhist followers 信衆 - mass believers 善信 - good believers, how temples' addressing believers 道友 - supposed to be friendlies following the Tao, now mostly mean heroine addicts 同道 - same belief believers, now can mean drug addicts too

1st time encounter this word "道徒"。
  19. Qigong and astral travel

I think everyone has the right to keep their lineage secret, but not for @Neirong and @Aeordimm, the owners of the Ancient Masters School. They are offering a commercial service, charging in return. It is common business sense to provide as much information on the origin of the goods, the ingredients, in this case, the nature of the services to be provided. If the customers don't even know it is a western or eastern or middle eastern or south American practices, they are not getting full consumer rights. If a potential customer wants to travel, physical or astral, he has the right to know what kind of airplane is going to carry him. It is unnecessary to talk about it here, but may be in the website or by other means before the transaction.
  20. Chronic Pain

Learn self-hypnosis to reduce the pain, and see if can reduce the level of medication to reduce side effects. It can buy some time to have a second opinion from doctors.
  21. Qigong and astral travel

@Learner too. I was also having the same thinking. Over the years, I have been warned by laymen, ZhengYi Taoists, Buddhists and even Christian priest saying that meditation (not even astral travel) is dangerous. Hostile entities could attack or lure you into something bad. I know they have a point (also conflict of interest) as there could be many entities, powers and even worlds beyond our daily lives. It would be naive to think everything everywhere is only filled with love and compassion. And even they may not intent to harm us, but would not care about our best interest. I think it would be prudent to be "belong" to some higher powers' lineage - gods, deities, angels, immortals and so on. So help may be available just in case. Therefore going to churches and temples of your religion frequently would be a form of insurance.
  22. Qigong and astral travel

It never occurs to me Damo = Freeform. But in the past years, sometimes Freeform would write about some uncommon concepts (forgotten) which Damo presumably also talks about. So I wonder if I am being ignorant or they are from same lineage. The only evidence is that both are, sorry, a bit long winded.
  23. Qigong and astral travel

Something like this. Now they got advertisements! https://www-lukyamtao-net.translate.goog/?_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp&_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en Just beware.
  24. Qigong and astral travel

Normally Taoist alchemy has strict warnings that followers should not indulge in any happenings along the way. Astral travel or similar things are included. The magical section of Taoism has lots of astral travel. But there is very little information on the internet, even for Chinese media.
