  1. The four kinds of Chi to be cultivated in Qigong

The term Chi/Qi is so widely used that non-Chinese speakers would not understand. The link below counted over 1200 words/terms contains "Chi". I don't know how many are directly or indirectly related to qigong, martial arts or cultivation, possibly hundreds. https://www.chinesewords.org/dict/list-75-154.html So if we just give "Chi" the most basic meaning of "air" and develop theory out of it would mostly likely be wrong i.e. 1199/1200.
  2. Any religion spread by force got nothing to offer

Taoists have the so called 5 techniques/arts, medicine, divination, physiognomy, astrology, immortality. Some would add martial arts too. Hinduism, Taoism and Judaism are confined to their own culture/nationals. Buddhism, has a much wider reach geographically across national boundaries, races and cultures, but is still quite limited. The genuine international religions are Christianity and Islam only.
  3. The Downvote Feature!

If everyone writes posts without reference to a link or a quote, it is easy. I just give like or dislike. But very often people quote a certain article, while he may or may not agree with. So if I give a like. Does it mean I concur with the person quoting this article; or I like the article itself. Downvote feature would face the same situation.
  4. The odyessey taking place in scandinavia

Fellow Taiwan members said she should be banned long time ago. She was cultist. They wondered why the forum bear with her for too long and it affected unknowing members.
  5. Any religion spread by force got nothing to offer

Taoism does have a religion arm. As to whether this "religion" qualified as religion, is subjected to argument because it doesn't have some of the traits like preaching, or even a regular set of deities to be worshiped. Taoism has some science inside it. But is it more appropriate to describe it as one of the "Spiritual Technologies" ? The whole cultivation system is technique oriented, rather than having experiments and unearthing the hidden secret of the universe.
  6. Hello

    That bad?
  7. Any religion spread by force got nothing to offer

I think the post refers to physical force, which is not uncommon amongst monotheism. Not only conversion involves violence, leaving the religion could also face death.
  8. Hot Shower X Cold Shower

In Chi cultivation, they often warn of wind chill into the body which can lead to sicknesses. And the coldness (and/or dampness) can accumulate for years until the person is weak and creates havoc. One of the reasons is that cultivators are trained to have their skin breathing (initial stage of spore breathing), it makes them even easier to get a flu than normal persons. By the same token, cold shower is not recommended. But this wisdom applies to China. If you are 300 pounds and living in a hot desert, I think a cooler shower during the day time could be of less harm with so much internal and external heat.
  9. Spontaneous Qigong - Jing and Qi Depletion

That is the idea - for expenditure. But "will have less energy" is about the total energy level, which is also about existing energy in the body and increase in production too. Qigong is unlike charging electricity which is instant. The increase in production takes much longer time and last longer beyond the actual training period. For an old and sick person, doing high intensity and long duration Qigong is actually harmful just like doing excess exercises, in spite of future benefits. I would suggest asking the teacher if some of the movements can be omitted in such situation.
  10. I'm Majerus

It is a strange. But is it too early to attribute to Karma? Anyhow millions have visited HuaShan. All sorts of Karma should have been present among visitors there. If you are "forbidden" to go, just leave it. May be you are being lucky in not able to go. Use AI to "age" a person also works. In the old days, people looked at the mother of your love interest. It is surprisingly accurate to predict how a woman will look after decades.
  11. Why bother with morality and ethics?

From a cultivator's perspective, sticking to morality is essential. Because when a cultivator is doing some deep stuff which is comparable to defusing a bomb, you don't want to be disturbed by whatever thinking or guilt or greed or lust that may crop up.
  12. Spontaneous Qigong - Jing and Qi Depletion

There are 2 different things. Chi, higher level or movement, creates reactions on the body. Zi Fa Gong is a system to specially induce similar or heavier reactions from the body. In fact doing everything consumes jing and Chi, Qigong is no difference. But Qigong has conservancy functions and clearing blockage function which indirectly increase jing and Chi. So if you are already weak, avoid those Qigong which are too hectic, or taking up too much time. Then your income is higher than expenditure.
  13. Zhengyi or Quanzhen

    ZhengYi is cooler.
  14. Introduction

I think online teaching is acceptable for theories, sitting and standing meditation and majority of qigong. But martial arts is another matter. How do a person learn fighting when he is totally alone? Who can rectify his movements and stances? At best people just learn a form of dance.
  15. Does all spiritual traditions point towards the same truth?

"towards the same truth" - how many truths are there?
  16. To Chi Or Not To Chi??

Those require agility, flexibility, better start young. It means most martial arts internal or external, gymnastics, Yoga.... Mind training like meditation (e.g. less suffering), can be started any time, middle or even old age. Philosophy/knowledge, age is not an issue. Qigong, those popular ones are mostly not physically taxing. But there are just too many types so it is hard to say.
  17. Chi Gong/Kung Fu Schools in China

Finally read through the comments. My observation is that 5 years ago DM was a sharp, agile, full of vigour young man. Nowadays he put on much weight, look old, clumsy. For internal arts, these are not good signs.
  18. To Chi Or Not To Chi??

Some of the things must start young. There is a lot of differences if you start at 15 comparing with 35, or 55. Those started mid-life can never attain a very good level. I have seen Yoga, Taichi, other martial arts people have this problem. Those late starter could have spent significant time, received good teachings and fully dedicated but just seem not there whatever.
  19. Stranger things

Testing. Can resize. Uploading is erratic. I have tried to upload 2 images, one never can't do though they are exactly the same size and type. Something wrong. Big and small images come out.
  20. I think the question is asking for the maximum period for suppression of grieve, say 49 days, not forever. Thereafter he can do whatever he thinks appropriate. If I am not wrong, Taoist or Chinese Folk religion is about .. an hour? when spirits pass through to another realm (if they cling on, it is another issue). I would suggest leave a day or max 3 days to be safe in case there are some unexpected on the journey. Note: They come back on the 7th night to see you and leave forever. Yet they have some sort of "telescope platform" to view this world, not 2 ways.
  21. The Neidan Direct

Guolong's translation of traditional text is alright. But I have read a book of his own writing...... Better read other materials.
  22. QiGong in public

Not long ago a member posted that he loves Qigong because it can be practised anywhere without people knowing.
  23. What is fajin, 發勁?

There are levels of Fajin. If my Fajin can push a trolley for 10 feet, it is not very useful.
  24. The Weigh

There was a story someone WILL a large sum of money. He got it from compensation when his son died. There should be conditions on getting the money. But having many attached conditions probably make the WILL ineffective.
  25. QiGong in public

There are so many forms of QiGong. Let's confine to static ones. It is better to do it indoors. The primary concern is wind or draft, which is bad on a stationery person, causing chill into the body (as all your pores are opened). ZZ can be done inside a small room. Don't believe pictures like sitting on top of mountain or facing a lake. They are not good. Secondly if you can go deep, sudden disturbance from the outside could be lethal. Ridicule from others is a problem but not comparable to this. As to meditating on bus, it is not necessary to cross your legs and have mudra. Just sit normally not too straight, back touching the seat, feet plant on the ground, is good enough. If you insist on a more "formal" approach, you can "complete the circuit", let the feet touch each other and one hand holding/touching another hand. No one will ever notice. But beware of pickpockets in case you fall into sleep.
