First of all, people 1000, 2000, 3000 years ago fully used their lungs. They were mostly farmer, or laborers. The official and intellectuals were a very small minority. There were no vehicle, machines... These people could overuse their lung more than under use. If these ancients still used 50% of their capacity, there would be important biological and evolutionary factors that maintain this proportion. Secondly ancient Taoist did not want a slow, long, deep breathing. They wanted a small, fine, long, silk, consistent, deep breathing - at first. In the advance stage, the breathing is supposed to be stopped or to be so fine that one cannot hear or discern. Then it becomes spore breathing when the lung is not really used. Then modern science says there is something called oxidative stress. When you have more than enough oxygen, you die earlier with numerous symptoms. It is why there are so many supplements to lessen it. Oxygen can be lethal. A few more percentage of oxygen in our atmosphere, we all die. The theory of oxygen does not stand.

Discovering Internal Principles Through Embodied Practice
Master Logray replied to TaiChiGringo's topic in Daoist Discussion
Qinna is normally called grappling or joint locking techniques. They are not Taichi original methods like the 13 stances, but rather imported into it. Qinna exists in all styles of Taichi and in other Chinese martial arts and outside China. So I suppose the good execution of Qinna could be independent from Taichi.- 71 replies

Why did the ancients develop Neigung/Neidan/medicine/martial systems to get more oxygen? They have more oxygen than now.

If you imply there is only 1 evil, then I would disagree. There are big evils, small evils, outward evils, hidden evils, latent evils.... All these change all the time. And all of us are or have evil inside us too. If everyone has god nature, then everyone should have evil nature. It is just the level that matters.

Recently the site is operating smoothly, but don't know for how long. Last time when the search function was used the system slowed down. So if we all use Google to search, it would alleviate the system's load.

Considering Private Neidan Subforum
Master Logray replied to forestofclarity's topic in Daoist Discussion
Sub forums tend to die of dwindling interactions. Am I correct? especially for a not so popular subject. -
Considering Private Neidan Subforum
Master Logray replied to forestofclarity's topic in Daoist Discussion
A sub-forum could be useful in dealing with crawling bots. But it won't be that private as so many already have 20 posts. And it would not be effective vs. trolling, spamming, bashing and so on. -

The good thing is there has never been so much interest in Neidan. -

What do you think about Neidan(內丹)?
Master Logray replied to ChiDragon's topic in Daoist Discussion
This is a very informative piece that all newbie should read. It is just that I would like to add Neidan involves pre-natal Chi. Purely work on the body like posture/thinking/breathing would not produce the transformative result. By the way is it possible to disclose how did you come across that gentleman in England? -

Master Logray replied to ChiDragon's topic in Daoist Discussion
Quite true, some schools view manipulation of breathing as lethal. It is why wide reading is essential. A single danitan, a single breathing method is not true. -

May be we view this thread, only this thread, in this way. As Apech pointed out: If we go to any specific subject board/forum, but we don't believe in their basic concepts, and we are having no experience of it, yet we use AI to translate some random texts and tell them what their interest really is, with some really doubtful statements. It would not be received amicably, and could be viewed as provocation. The matter is about how it is done but not about differences in opinion. Indeed if the title is rectified as below. It would be easier for everyone. -

Another view is the proportion. Neidan may need 50/50 Xing/Ming overall. Neigong/Qigong 30/70. And different stages need different proportions too. -

I would say it is normal to argue or take on each other. But if one is prolific writer and there are so many holes in the writings, it is very hard for the others. Either they have to argue on every point on every posting, which means all out war everyday, and possible accusation of being discriminate or prejudiced, or they just let it go against their understandings or even conscience? -

Coincidentally I mentioned quite some time ago his intention was to teach. He was quite unhappy towards my observation. -

Master Logray replied to ChiDragon's topic in Daoist Discussion
Yes, the Xing in cultivation is not only the character or integrity of a person which is a layman's understanding. The Xing in Taoist cultivation is somewhat similar to other traditions like Buddhism, about the stillness, pureness, voidness of the mind. The character/integrity are requirements. -

This theory doesn't work. Once they found an answer, there could have been even more funding, to find out how it works, how to harness it, how to heal, how to put into electric cars, AI and robots..... As to your post about substantial increase in health, it is commonly observed that a healthy person would encounter less result from QG or cultivation e.g. a young person. While a sick or old or both person could see a more substantial improvement. This seems strange. You say you have been healthy all along, right? Another explanation could be some of the QG, breathing exercises have a stimulating effect but they also use up your reserve fast. It is ok for a young and vital person who replenish easily. Cultivators could feel full of energies, pinkish face and skin, sleep very little and yet full of drive, strong voice. Old books say it is burning your Jing/essence, your body is emptied with internal fire raging on uncontrolled. Just be careful. -

What do you think about Neidan(內丹)?
Master Logray replied to ChiDragon's topic in Daoist Discussion
I think attributing Chi to oxygen and ATP don't make too much sense. China side so many scientists and patriots have been fervently trying to find out the secret of Chi for many many years. But they have no conclusive result yet. Don't these highly qualified people never think of simplistic stuff like oxygen and ATP? -

Master Logray replied to ChiDragon's topic in Daoist Discussion
In China, most people, cultivators, health, martial and sport enthusiasts do not take time to investigate what is Chi or many of the abstract terms. They mainly approach Chi on its energetic properties, lesser as a substance. So it is natural the outsiders like the "West" would view Chi as totally energy. It is unlike when we use a phone, who would bother about the chips and circuits or the theories behind them. The Chinese work on the map, the west wonder what is in the map, but all are maps, not real.
