  1. Karlonomics and Opportunity costs

Yeah, but since on doesn't really know what the ramifications of his actions are fully, like ironically getting hit by a bus while jogging.. I dont think one really CAN make knowledgeable decisions about the relative costs. Things like mental health cannot be measured , nor the advantage of eating organic vegetables etc. I know I consciously made all the decisions that happened to me till this day , and yet I find myself in a place and situation , which I never envisioned. If I did know the ramifications of my decisions actually and well, I certainly wouldnt being doing this here. Like wise, as a kid , you did Not envision this moment , me , or this sentence. So your plans couldnt aim you at this.
  2. Karlonomics and Opportunity costs

If you worked and slaved, elevating your cortisol levels etc , and died sooner because of not meditating ..... ..
  3. The Now as a spiritual escapism.

Im thinking, I - (we , most likely ), already spend a huge amount of time , reliving , reviewing , dwelling , self criticizing , fuming .... none of that really actually makes me or us do better than that which we could do without the negativity of dwelling on it. I physically 'autopilot along' in the meantime . Which means , I or you, do NOT gain by dwelling on bad stuff , AS it is! Its should be already be self evident to you that this is correct. Yes , occasionally there are times when negative feelings redirect our energies to some productive thing or other . RARELY ! If you consider it escaping, well ,then by all means , escape from that craziness if you can. Just do it making umm one NEW good decision per day .ANd execute without second guessing all the time. If someday one could look back , and instead of looking at what we physically did , instead,, viewed the thoughts I-we were having all day long , I think we , or at least I , would be horrified if we just never-broke- that -habit -ever , ,,for our whole life we made ourselves suffer? ?? At the very least one should try to fix their mindset , and if they escape a bit of crap along the way , thats all for the better. Its a hard life otherwise. I can safely say all this because no one ever heeds me.,, not even me a lot of the time.
  4. my secret

Problems Are always illusions, theyre ideas about how we want things to be vs the way that they actually are. Consider what an illusion is , define it thoroughly . Do the same for the word 'problem " . The meanings both revolve around ideas in your head conflicting with the state of material things outside your head. This doesnt mean that magically the material world will suddenly conform to your wishes, it does suggest though, that one needs to physically bring about this conformance, OR change ones attitude. WHICH,you probably already know.
  5. The origin of mankind

Im usually intrigued by these new tv shows where they dump some people together out in some difficult place , it always seems to me that the biggest hurdle is getting along, and that once the participant is alone they seem to get along better with the environment they are in. And then my mind wanders to whether someone like an -actively old fashioned style native living Australian Aborigine- , would have similar difficulty dropped into the Amazon or not. Since a great deal of information is stored culturally.
  6. remarkable discovery

Im not much of a partier either, as youve said about yourself,, so I dont why youd say that.
  7. remarkable discovery

Oooh, now I found sixty bucks strange days are these.
  8. The origin of mankind

The painting strikes me as depicting the feminine dilemma of wanting to be freely passionate , find her angel , but also has concern about the issue of becoming emprisoned by marriage and pregnancy... so The three redheads are actually visions of the same person.and the origin story is a vehicle for another message.... but it doesnt literally Say that, so...
  9. remarkable discovery

How odd, I just had a voodoo witch break my cell phone. glass..and I dont think im kidding. Perhaps its for the best.
  10. Perhaps ,, I know the allure,, I once shared your view, ,,just not now. My experiences tell me it just doesn't fit anymore.I find this other view a relief and so, offered it .
  11. I agree, that the the idea of good and evil maintains this other idea that one can in fact ' do ' a good thing, to make the world a 'better place' , and that this is what would make it possible to positively affect things that are remote with some sort of confidence that it would in fact still be effectively good... at the far end. I just don't personally think that anymore. X may or may not be considered a good act , and f(+X), is not necessarily +X anymore .
  12. While the total ramifications of what we do reverb as described , Im thinking that the predictable ramifications really cover a rather idiosyncratic local zone. ( if one doesnt know the ramification, then one Cant be making choices which are chosen to promote one end result or the other- the butterfly flapping his wings , has No idea whatsoever What the end results are around the globe , or in a year. And neither would I ... ) proverbs aren't exactly a scientific or philosophical argument
  13. That may true , I dunno ,, maybe under different circumstances I'd have had that opinion as well. But since I dont think I am having any impact on world affairs -for better or worse- it seems just fine that I can stick with the opinion I have for my own ease. No one is asking for my guidance in this.
  14. Well people do want entertaInment, a means to fit in, social opportunity etc. Normal goals no matter what era one lives in, wouldnt you say? So, to me, none of this is the " end of the world" or the slow deadly approach of failure brought on by decadence. I see it as the changes which taking place as time wears on, to technolgy, social institutions etc, while humanity undergoes a "genetic drift-like" phase with adherence to the basic nature people always had. I was told that they found in ancient roman ruins, graffitti which complained society was going down the drain , Similar to modern complaints, from the Roman folks who pretty much invented hamburgers ,drains and theater for western culture. ... those symbols in cave paintings are probably advertizements and political cartoons.
  15. That which was the news has become infotainment. But I dont think there really is a way to accurately represent the importance of events that happen outside our sphere,, or even within it. But I do like some stuff, like The news hour, which to me seems less distorted, more broadly considered. But even THEY ! succumb to the lure of the election year and describe pundits opinions about polls etc. Which IMO ,should not be considered newsworthy, compared to actual opinions of candidates. And merely by attending to the idiosyncratic stories of the day, may contribute to a distorted view of things.
  16. The origin of mankind

Im not sure I undenderstood that, could you rephrase it?
  17. Tolerance, Apathy and the Fall of Civilizations

Youre probably teasing,, but Ill amend anyway. I was taught to, use tolerance , withold action against stuff until it got onerous. Some people conflate the terms and think tolerance is pretty much the same as permanently accepting a thing one thinks bad. ,,and so ,It looks to me that in this thread, there is seeming disagreement where ,on a functional level ,there isnt any. Theres downsides to having too much or too little leniency , but it goes without saying, that the stupid application of Any principle would.
  18. The origin of mankind

WelI , thats ONE chair I dont plan to sit on. Why exact a price Jim? What about free love?
  19. The origin of mankind

Id figure youd Just ignore whats disinteresting. Ive got a thing to do...
  20. The origin of mankind

Yep its a very ironic twist. Maybe we could just drop the idea that there is faith. We differ in what we are accepting as the basis for action or understanding, but both structure the scenario . Some prophet in the desert is very much like the explorer in a lab..he has his reasons, built on SOME kind of input of experience.
  21. The origin of mankind

That actually sounds correct for the most part. Error must always be in the realm of the imagined ,the perceived difference between expectation and event. For the physical to err, would imply the physics went chaotic in a way violating the physical laws of the universe. As far as I know, that doesnt happen , those rules are absolutes, but I still can remain in the dark about their function and absoluteness quotient..and so, not be self contradicting.
  22. The origin of mankind

The basis is that one can conclude to have faith that something exists which we cant be particular about, and other things dont actually exist just because its handy to make certain approximations. Why talk to someone you doubt exists as you conceive of them? ..... Why not? you dont actually know anyones true self as it is.
