Can the Tao be found in a 66 hours work week?

How do you get your wife to stay in the urn? -
What were those orange bits, in with the scallops? that went in the thing floating with red sauce ,,made of ? on the green puddle of , green ? The little fried shearwater is actually surprisingly sad to me ,, but the other stuff looks like good solid home cookin. Not as delicately fancy as the Hun tun, but more of a 'shoveling in the face' meal. Won tons we get are like flabby ravioli with nothing inside:)

So who in your opinion, of the readily available english translations does best at sticking to the language of the originals? Im not talking about their sentiments mind you, just the wording as it seems to read.

geekfarm.org, Merel , ch 38 ?

Bump If the consequences of someones actions are arbitrary , one cant make the correct decisions even on ones own behalf. One will inevitably screw up , not knowing any better.

The ends justfy, the means ,,, which means they validate the hunter and his methods This part I figure youd be familiar with, its a common argument. A person that who has forgotten the snare, must have already gotten the rabbit. This is the logical leap its just turning the view in reverse, like,,ummm , black is not white, so ,white is not black So he is justified and validated. This just ties the second part back to the first in reverse fashion again. Wanting to hear from they guy who has done it, made his choices and lived with them , makes sense vs asking someone who is only theorizing... they are in no position to give advice nor judge. Ummm, I want a guy who has painted houses, to paint my house. Why should I hire the guy who hasnt done it? Would you want the inexperienced surgeon ? Until youve gone and done something you dont really know the pitfalls and drawbacks. Does that help explain me better ? Speliing it out makes it look complicated but in normal everyday speech , maybe with two political candidates standing next to one another on the podium, ,, it would be clearer. Its like someone telling me I dont know what I am talking about.

I don't know what to think of it , but I approve of the attempt to say right out, what he believes it means.

Just kidding !

It may already be online by the title, Mein Kampf.

Interesting conversation. Reading the snare.. thing, it just looks totally different from what yall are saying, The ends justfy, the means ,,, they validate the hunter A person who has forgotten the snare, has already gotten the rabbit. So he is justified and validated. Wanting to hear from they guy who has done it, made his choices and lived with them , makes sense vs asking someone who is only theorizing... they are in no position to give advice nor judge. This is in direct contradiction to saying you can experience the world from inside the house. Ones living is the thing that validates, and presumably ,one cant become one with dao by means of intellectual gymnastics, untested in the real world for validity. Immersion in the dao is immersion in the real world.

I go with the block , being symbolic of state and social functions the newborn , symbolic of the individual , the limitless , symbolic of the the cosmos SO the iterations would be suggesting the validity of the point on several levels , even if the main interest of the one asking for the advice is function of the state. Which frees up the yin and yang of it to be the spectrum from , unconsolidated , free , peaceful prosperity--- trending to--- warlike, expensive, constrained , highly organized state

Could the water references be poetic modifiers of the condition of the underheaven ? Im seeing a bath as being a settled condition , and the creek the condition of dynamic equilibrium. which fits Since the de of the creek is 'not deviated from' , whereas the de of the bath or valley is 'not incomplete' a bit of wordplay in writing?

But its not actually true as a general rule , in the real world , that heavy penalties for light offences eliminates the occasions of heavy offenses. Mainly because folks who do not expect to be caught , don't care what the penalty is. And for other reasons. It is the high certainty of punishment which deters best, not its severity. IMO

Fun story. worth reading , not a poop.

Be honorable, having true virtue , but dont expose others for their lack of it hide or mitigate ,their flaw ,to nurture their incomplete virtue , in doing this one preserves their own non-discriminating attitude or humility rather than be dragged down This new carved - affected person , friend, citizen , is then become an asset rather than enemy and the divided are unified to greater good. Not being discriminatory is a positive virtue spiritually and materially
-
Ok, that's fine too, I'm thinking its a basic idea that the 'microcosm recapitulates the macrocosm'. And so the virtuous return to the high potential of the origin, could refer to the cosmos , or the state, or the individual. Underheaven could even be the brain in the cranial vault
-
Ok , working with these words , Googling underheaven , I dont see that as an acceptedly defined term but it connotes at least something less than heavenly but perhaps heaven like, and a water connotation is provided. with constant spiritual adherence to virtue, one becomes as newborn strict adherence to virtue isn't a restriction , one becomes freed Be fully virtuous so you are-one is , returned to ones native state So the underheaven implied appears to be the spiritual 'potential' of a person., and the path of virtue brings one back to the origin... themselves ,,genuine uncontaminated (by screwed up socialization) . Looks pretty well tied together to me, and I imagine it would look that way to you , so Im wondering what the catch is.

Obviously , I think its one basic point in three different contexts. And since my english synonym in the english translations render all three of the examples comprehensible in english ,it's supportable. It doesnt change the original Chinese , nor the modern Chinese , nor even really the English ! since its just a synonym. If you were a making a scholarly point, would your presentation wander the four corners of the earth or would you try to stick to the subject? I'd like to know if there are already known terms in ancient chinese for tempering , or heat treating , or protective modification of virtue.. which might have been an available word choices for the original author. If I 'protect my tools by painting with Rustoleum ' , the words painting and protecting become synonymous. For that circumstance , but I would tend to choose the word paint if I was painting, and the word protect for other situations,, but in another lingo , I dont know which would be used.

Fair response, you are working with the idea, to be less one dimensional, but is anonymously and ambiguously confusing an improvement on the like button? Dunno, it would be fun just to click on confusing symbols and leave the poster guessing tho. What about numbers ? One could submit a grade ,one to ten ,then the grades get averaged, at half value for women , .... just kidding ... if its so important to be nuanced about your appreciation , isnt the only fair way is to respond with a post or email? -

Whats the point of ambiguous comment? Why did I get a musical note? Is that sarcasm? The star however I like.,or a question mark. Or an eye meaning the person read it, so long as it has the names. -
And to answer you better since I got off point, its my personal reading of what was presented, I cant vouch that I am working with accurate ancient Chinese to modern Chinese and then to english version representation of the original. I assume everyone is doing their best to stick close to the original.

Heck if I know, my perspective relies on two facts, one, that the guys were not babbling fools, and two , that if it is wisdom it doesnt change its validity with time. So thats why I couched my reading as I did, the end result must make sense or its the fault of wording chosen to represent the idea. They had an idea and drummed the point home in several versions to demonstrate the principle. Even if the translation is weak, each refrain adds to the solidity of the point. Protection, has connotations today , and the kanji ? Had connotations of its own back in the day. I chose the tempering of steel to connect protection with the adjustment of somethings properties so as to improve its performance, durability, cutting ability ,virtue. Back then they knew to adjust bronze for toughness or hardness by addition of zinc , it improves the crossbow bolt so it doesnt break, and preserves its cutting edge. You guys ,I depend on, to check if the creative verbal leap I make in english ,,fits the ancient chinese associations. We both end up taking some license, but any way you dice it, the result must not be gibberish.

Confucius said: being wise and knowledgeable – temper it with simplicity ; so as to not to fall victim to hubris Justly having earthly power – temper it with yielding; so as to not be overbearing being brave enough to conquer the world – temper that with care; so as to not be reckless rich enough to own the four seas – temper it with respectfulness. so as to not be covetous This would be called the Dao of ‘advance and retreat’. Get it ? , advance and retreat , its spelled out - dont lose what one has by taking the issue too far. Having large font protect it with smaller font. so its easier to read
