  1. Well if there Is a 'dislike' button, I want to know the names of them that chose to click it, so I can post back.
  2. [TTC Study] Chapter 28 of the Tao Teh Ching

Those words as they are suggest that one doesnt want to carry things too far, for instance, if I get obnoxious or overboldened because I think I am just so freeking smart then I really should temper that with some humility, (as in tempering steel) SO I would tentatively substitute the word temper and look to see it this fit with other usages and terms.
  3. [TTC Study] Chapter 28 of the Tao Teh Ching

I just want to know what he has to say.
  4. [TTC Study] Chapter 28 of the Tao Teh Ching

You DO realize just how rude that is right? I have no idea what your point is. Am I supposed to guess ,or is the intent to just make sure I cant follow along?
  5. The Father and Son of Taoist Philosophy

Written by Chuang Tzu trans. Thomas Merton Chuang Tzu and Hui TzuWere Crossing Hoa river By the Dam Chuang Tzu said: 'See how free The fishes leap and dart That is their happiness.' Read more: http://poetry.onlinenigeria.com/ad.asp?blurb=22&topic=The%20Joy%20of%20Fishes#ixzz3Xqk8GA6S When it comes to Merton I just dont know how close he is reading to the text, though I enjoy his perspective. I wont say more about this , but I am confirming some of this is Merton and accounts for the Major shift in style.
  6. [TTC Study] Chapter 28 of the Tao Teh Ching

Though I cant read ancient chinese.. that looks nice and orderly , and your reading does make more sense. Since, if one was desirous of being the ravine , mother, and model,of the general public, it would seem a rather 'egoic' set of desires. But it doesn't appear to negate creative metaphors about who is governing , what is the public etc.
  7. An alpha test proposed

You answered well ,but for clarity , ill say I didnt see the Buddhist section moved to www and it looked exactly the same, and before posting to the thread Id want to be very clear on the Op`s authorities. In the past some in that section have been rather unwelcoming,,,and I dont want to put my foot in where I am going to end up resenting that.
  8. Thats a wryly funny true view Imo, but consider this, the longer a post goes on, the more likely youre going to touch a point that may be unique, and folks dont want to endorse. The more deep and personal the post, the more trivial the like button seems. They did a poll on folks reasons for liking posts once, and those varied. Dont take likes or lack of likes personal, or reserve likes for folks who you agree absolutely 100 percent with, enjoy the humor creativity and good intent.
  9. An alpha test proposed

in www? So we know who is operating the thread?
  10. How about a button that says .....I read the post, think its fine, and while I dont really have any major issue about it, I cant say I agree with everything on hundred percent, though I still respect your opinion on it.
  11. The Father and Son of Taoist Philosophy

This chunk seems rather different in character, is this Zz or Merton ?
  12. Unless you can see the future,,everything is at least a little gambly. Strange you should consider delegation of moderation to be a reduction in the control exercised by the state, but even if I thought that as well, I dont buy the slippery slope argument, starting with that premise, one can never make compromise ,and one has already opted ,not to opt for the most reasonable solution ,but rather the most polemic. Thats how wars start.
  13. [TTC Study] Chapter 28 of the Tao Teh Ching

It could also be suggesting that one can act in a fashion which isnt true to their sentiment. Know youre being manipulative but pretending innocence OR knowing its manipulation but going along with it. Knowing the glory of power but keeping it hidden OR actually being humble though in position of power. One tends to read bias into the chapters which may not be there. The texts may be read from a truly dark perspective. For a thing to be universally good ,like the sun, it must shine on both the wicked and the just equally.. Know this but dont spread it around. It may seem useless for promoting ones wisdom, keeping it secret, but thats why its useful to know.
  14. Checking back the first post by Jeff, I think he was looking at the entire site. Beyond his post we seem to be talking about the idea in general, as applies to a subportion of the site. I am curious about a subportion working that way ,but not the whole site. It seems to change the character of participation, look at how little action there is in here ! Its like one of those slow news days when the press resorts to stories about the press itself, rather than news. Start a thread zero , I know I sat around for a bit waiting for inspiration ,which didnt show up. I guess I just dont have any agenda any more, ive just gotten used to the idea that folks already have the beliefs they believe are best for them.If one doesnt have any system they really want to propound, interview, game etc, then it appears one doesnt need additional controls, and the regular version is fine.
  15. What happens if we die?

I was just picking something of contrast, for humor . If thats to be my lot, then surely Stosh is gone.
  16. Mh, I dont really disagree much, in principle. I imagine a situation where I post something innocuous, and the post is deleted for some reason anyway. Well I would resent that too. Its a gamble. To make the Whole Dao bums operate that way, that, I would oppose.
  17. im thinking that these concerns are the same ones as exist in the ordinary format. Folks disagree with the moderation that is done. The reason you might want to trust me, is that you might want a thread which is moderated in the style that I do. The foe you mentioned earlier, would have gotten plenty of freedom to post, but then when it became out of hand, I could squash it , since I would have not have continued to be constrained by the rule, which is inflexible.
  18. Same thing. Control before you say it, as rules. If my rules are more lax, your freedom is greater. One cant make you say or not say anything. Your objection is bad.
  19. Watching The Birds

they start over , unfortunate and sad , its the way of things, but they are what they are, and that isnt unfortunate or sad.
  20. What happens if we die?

A living essence , awareness ,feeling the waves moment to moment. Its how the useless is useful ,and the useful ,useless.
  21. What happens if we die?

that really depends on what one of us is, doesnt it? I like the idea that the person that I think I am is bullshit. I dont want a rerun just like this one, I want a fresh start with none of the unhelpful crap that this version of me had to deal with. I want to be a big breasted blonde babe whos every wish is granted, or some simple coral whos life consists of absorbing light and grabbing plankton. Imagine the shifting surf , dappled sun .. just being ....zippo of stosh thats as gone as gone can be. ...
  22. Why, ,do you think thread operators cant make right choices without the benediction of the state?
  23. Seeing how the rollout has gone to this point ,participation tends to be weak. I couldnt say that the doom and gloom predictions do not have merit, but so far those havent surfaced. Sean could always toss in some modification to attempt to address unseemly choices by moderating thread operators. As long as folks know whole threads can be deleted, that each does have supervisor whos opinions may not be liberal, I would want to see how to make it more popular and fun, first, THEN worry about how it might not be great. One could do interviews, games, teach a class, all sorts of things, with the modicum of control allotted. Me personally, I dont and wouldnt plan to be very restrictive at all, I am fine with threads wandering folks just tossing in comment, but when the thing seems to have run a good run, well then I think.its time to just remove it.
  24. The Father and Son of Taoist Philosophy

I like that one a lot.
  25. The Laozi as a Manual of Neidan

Im just guessing, but I would vindicate secrets in that , 1 people like the illusions they have , 2 telling what most folks arent ready to hear is asking for trouble 3 selfishness ,, but well rationalized self interest- wu wei.
