  1. The Sage goes to a motel....

If the sage was so wise , Why did he choose the hotel with spiders in it if he was phobic?
  2. Lao Tzu and the "belly"

Well this is precisely what Im looking at , so were on the same page... that ones ideas may not match up with ones behavior. Re: ,a pro "achieving lots in life" attitude , ,, well- is it driving you to dissatisfaction ? do you smell the roses ? do you dwell in the moment? You could only say running around like that is "bad" if its your opinion -that it is. But there are a few illusions in there 1-that its good or bad ,( there is no such thing outside your opinion ) to 2- achieve things ( thats two illusions right there youre gonna end like the rest of us -dust to dust) that acting like that is the 3- "real you" ( there is no 'real you' over time except what you are doing with any moment and you can potentially change at any moment either, ,, 4- "relapse" is a comparison between what is gone what actually is and what you expect to be .. and only that which actually is ,has reality ) You can take a stab at pointing out my illusions in return..
  3. Lao Tzu and the "belly"

Did you just be mean? I was really asking . That may be exactly what it says , and its fine if one rules themselves by it but imposed by someone else , its asking for retaliation since if imposed by another , then I dont share those values and would think my ruler was keeping me ignorant and poor.
  4. Lao Tzu and the "belly"

Hmmm So am I , do you know why it is -(opinion)- that is so for you? Is it not living in the present ? or is it living in the present ? or what? I could use some input on this, something ( not vague ), might be very illuminating.
  5. Chapter 1, Section 7(b) Concepts

Useless -usefullness is always defined by purpose , a goal ,, without the goal "useful" has no meaning.. otherwise, everything is equally ---useless or useful. A thing is useful or useless to ME. or you . So by our desire , to have things be a certain way amenable to us a perspective is provided by which a thing can be said to have use or not.
  6. Ok , but the compassion is yours , it lives in you. IMO And I think its important to recognize that , because it implies that you have a 'say'. That you or I have the ability to modify the impact of the world on us. BUT If you see it as manifest through you I can see that as well , because compassion is clearly a possibility within the universe , same as life itself is. Tao allows for it to BE.
  7. Watching The Birds

    Thanks , I appreciate that.
  8. Nature has no compassion , it doesnt care one whit whether every human or microbe disappears ,. Humans on the other hand have concerns and can try to intentionally address them , but What we call 'harm' is a subjective assessment ( whether it is a predictable equation or not. ) Not bringing headaches on ourselves in terms of a depleted environment , or hostile re-actions to our own actions tends in the long run, to be a wise view , dont look for trouble , dont butt in where you dont have to , dont waste energy on stuff that has nothing to do with you because you have bigger fish to fry. Leave the other stuff to take care of itself as it will. Guy A says to guy B ,"Your pain is not objectively true ". Guy B says to guy A , "Oh yeah !" and stomps on guy A 's foot ."See, ? Hows that for objectively true? hurts you as much as it would me! it is too, objectively true !" Guy A then stomps on Guy B's foot , "Well I didnt feel that one bit ! So , Its still only subjectively true !" Guy B stomps on Guy A's foot again and says , "Hey Youre right !"
  9. Chapter 1, Section 7(b) Concepts

I'm pretty sure alianthus is at least partially edible, and if its as big as the guy says, then. Its a little late to go moving it .but horticulture aside, this section suggests that one might find advantage in not being exploitable. Reitterating the idea that circumstance determines whether a trat is of potential benefit, the general assumption that the thing is not GOOD is again shown to be bogus perspective. Section eight?
  10. Watching The Birds

Got some nice shots of a snail kite Ill post one up when I get in to work. Color may be oversaturated a bit on your monitor , they probably look better on laptop . I havent figured out the correction yet. exotic mentioned earlier Immature same one swallow tail kite ex. wing veination
  11. Lao Tzu and the "belly"

Well done folks , is your belly full Rara? Or are you going back for 'seconds' ?
  12. Guilt is an internalized injunction against onesself. What is going on is that the individual believes he is not loved and that this is justified. So guilt is associated with a fear of rejection. Guilt is not the source of all fears though, nor is guilt the source of romantic love. Romantic love is associated with acceptance of Onesself and the other person guilt is the reverse , it is associated with fears of justified rejection. The two can get tangled though and are wisely teased apart.
  13. ...

Bad bad machine mind, bad !
  14. It isn't an 'either or ' situation . .
  15. what is the tao?

Asked and answered in the very same thread? My thought though is that is the objective context in which we find ourselves. But that's just me.
  16. ...

That ! Sir is a respectable statement , and I respect it. But aesthetics isn't the issue. It is whether any restricton on edits to preserve the integrity of context is more important than the ownership of ones personal text.
  17. The Bull Who Cried.

    The - Who? cried ? ,,, bull !
  18. ...

and the quote below wasnt said by cat but looks like it is because of the subsequent editing so I am demonstrating how things can get jumbled or out of context by editing as well.
  19. Not obvious , not basic , not factually true , and appears to be founded on an Idea which is not clearly Taoist but perhaps of the Abrahamic tradition IMO The only simple thing about it is the abbreviated parental dictate fo follow the idea as a rule.
  20. Then dont ,Im just seeing at a balm , a mitigation of the harshness one can experience but theres still stuff for you to do and see and feel so Im not encouraging getting "lost"
  21. Wishing I had more to give someone isnt really a great example of compassion , as the word is usually meant .. the following unspoken line is , then he wouldnt leave me with nothing. Compassion without a target is a feeling felt by the practitioner , how can that be seen as anything but self involved? So it isnt exactly compassionate either. Extending beyond oneself, ,ones sense of self , , to accept other stuff as one accepts self ,, is why compassion leads to acceptance , acceptance to peace , peace to tranquility , and tranquility to a loss of sense of self.
  22. I can explain , a different view , but the easier thing is just to accept it as human nature as well as your own. Understanding relationships is a good idea to have firmly in hand too. If you discount human nature on either of those levels you may not be prepared for them when and if they happen. Im just suggesting an open mind. Since either can drag you down, or carry you to the clouds. Sorry steve my sentiments are rather redundant to yours, posted a second later.
  23. Chapter 1, Section 7(a) Concepts

    Nicely put Steve
  24. Chapter 1, Section 7(a) Concepts

I had to look up relative perspectivism ..while I think I get the meaning you intend the term seems a bit redundant. There may be a better term . Though I agree we self limit because we are biased about the way we look at things. If I read it right perspectivism, refers to an absence of objective truth , generally about moral opinions but I suppose it can extend to the objective truth of political status etc.. As a whole I see your point as reasonable. . But would be in closer accord regarding the term more narrowly . Because I think there are things objectively true but our thoughts on them can't be proven to be actually objective.. if that makes sense. For instance, there is someting which interferes with walking into the next room, but the word-thought. ( ideation?) "wall" is not an objective truth provable other than by inference and collective agreement on the meaning of "wall". But regardless of proofs , My motion is arrrested by. The thing, as would you.
  25. Chapter 1, Section 7(a) Concepts

This section appears to contradict the idea that useless ness itself if advantageous . Instead it seems to suggest that there are potentials which should be actualized once recognized, indeed sought out. It. Doesnt say that useless things are always the wise ones to pursue. It also doesn't say that things are always useful because they are empty-empty, the fullness, the defined characters of the gourd may make it useful or useless. The factor determining the virtue if the item is its suitability to the situation. That situation is not negotiable , WHat is negotiable- is the way in which one responds from a given situation relative toward ones goals. The gourd has no goal to serve as either a boat or calabash nor does a calabash attempt to be a gourd. The jconverse point to this will soon be presented lest one conclude that the situation we exist in is somhow geared to fall in line with our goals. (Since the gourd does not miraculously fit into the humans plans because he was drifting around with no intent) On anothrer level the guy had preconceptions which were interfering with his own welfare. He was not open to other possibilities , the calabash was not a defined thing . Calabash was boat or gord or water container. Calabash was illusion.
