Lawmakers are SUPPOSED to be puppets that pander to the public will. Its the idiots who think they are supposed to LEAD us who are the problem. -
Check out how they had to clean the green 'water' and 'air' around Beijing for the olympics

Wood ash is very alkaline, used in making lye don't use too much .Its a good source of potassium Hence the name potash . The tricky thing about soil additives is that they can mobilize and Displace one another. Good is only good , if it supplies what is needed.

It harkens back to a popular tradition.. In china they put the children on shelves to keep them safe. When the children finally get old enough to climb down.. They say Wu hu , and that is name of the character .

I think it means " two men dancing one of them on a shelf."

The spirited translation is actually going to take one closer than the bureacratic one (for something like a "cultural background" and "literary taste" and "historic perspective" and the rest of what goes into "comprehension" are nothing if not fuzzy-logical), but not close enough, never close enough... unless we're dealing with a unique situation of a translator's genius surpassing that of the author while including it in its entirety. And now the poem I used to illustrate my point... Popular yes , work of genius? Not so much. The original has a message ,and the parody does not (that I can see) The feel is entirely changed and it retains little of the original except for the repetitive rhythm , its just a confusion. "Carroll"s presentation of light hearted nonsense , panders, rather than suggesting something enlightening. Was Johnny Carson's show genius ?, or did it just have a comfortable feel sloppy jokes , Ed McMahon , etc that people wanted for late night. Its interesting as a 'blast from the past' though. It seldom happens, even, that a work of genius translated by another genius comes out as a work of genius! This however, makes sense ,because genius isnt obedient. If however an idiot translates the work of genius , I dont figure it comes out much better whether they speak the lingo natively or not. Laozi himself couldn't translate his work into English without doing stuff like that, without doing it this way! Maybe true also , words have connotations associated with them , not every language has the same set connotations, and therefore if writing is done in an intentionally ambiguous manner (goes for Shakespeare as well ), any word choices are going to fall short in translation. Picking one translation to english from ancient chinese is just not likely to do the work justice without a syncretic view. If thats your point ,I agree wholeheartedly Very nice!

P'eng and the sparrow , both are collecting data accurately , the peceptions that they derive from that objective data always have subjective component . That which the data is coming from is what could be called true,,, when we call something true,, we are making an assessment that what we are describing, correlates to that which does exist. If I was to walk out to the river , and attempt to cross this morning , I could walk the way across. Tomorrow , if I walk my way to the river and attempt to cross, surprised, I may fall in! ( it melted) How can that be , if what exists ,,depends on what I imagine? I am surprised,so that which I imagined- was not confirmed! Surprise alone is enough to prove -what exists , is independent of our understanding. but our understanding may mirror what exists. ( so we really can walk across the frozen river until it thaws)

Neurotics draw you in , they dont have to know your mental state, its beside the point, because they cant help themselves. And even if their behavior is intentional , they have means to draw folks out. They do 'key' on people who seem suceptible to thier games though. -
I just tried going there and Im the only one in the room. Thats not much fun

I cant tell if you are agreeing or not , but many experiments on civilization have been tried. ( you may have to move to a jungle to enjoy that)

Did anybody mention a big turkey dinner and a box of wine? Soy , shrimp, spirulina, and sea lion, also have significant tryptophan -
I stand to be corrected in this , but Im pretty sure , Siddartha, Lao ,Jesus, Mohammad , Luther and others, all reworked existing belief systems to a new package to suit the times and what they felt were the needs of the people they were ministering to.. and it has always been accompanied by accoutrement. The same cynicism can be applied to medicine and capitalism and government and engineering . and so forth.

Convince me not to go out to nightclubs and sleep around

Appropriate to the Tbums , I would say that none of it is 'bad' per se. there is no 'bad'. But .. The ramifications of those decisions however may not be things you like. They may 'negatively' influence folks around you too. again that would be in terms of whether you want the consequences to be such. The other side of the same coin is that feeding in to hedonistic impulse undermines that perspective which may provide you with a more abiding satisfaction. Its fuel on a fire which is dragging you into it (of your own free will!) Which, my friend, presents to you- that which is, purely a judgement call but I see it as central to Tao and Buddhism ,,, to ,not overdo things, instead the call is to look for internal peace and more freedom from ones own motivational chains. Frankly I dont give a crap whether you sleep around -
Thanks for the offer. Ill take a raincheck in case something comes up.

Ipad puts all sentences into one paragraph when I post. Help?

That always happens to me too. This phone also doesn't reveal enough space to see what you are doing without a microscope, has back button but no forward delete, doesn't cooperate with the finger swipes in this forum format and more. I edit almost all my posts too so they fit right horizontally. At least its better than homing pigeons. -

That may very well be the case, ion. For me the jury is still in sequester though, Till I find out if the universe is " analog or digital" The idea being that there are actually discrete components Of space ( like a bag of marbles) which I believe there is Some evidence for , as well. -
Play it like a game of family feud. Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly... Suddenly I awoke... Now, I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming that I am a man. What does this mean? Survey SAYS! ,,,,,
