  1. Taoism or Taoism?

Fair enough, Yes , we do but considering it in the light of a greater "good bad" scenario That one 'should' retain jing for some reason , is not the same as just holding back to extend the pleasure. Even so , Its more taoish IMO to let go of the attachment than it is to grab onto it ,perpetuate it , focus on it. Things arise , we accept , we move on -thats the cycle its normal and natural this is the taoish message I see and it applies to both meditations and real world behaviors, (if we are going to apply the message in both realms.)
  2. Art As A Spiritual Quest.

Quite possible. I guess one would have to determine how much exposure he had when , calculate how long it would take to show deleterious effects , and compare it to his work and writings. His original stuff , what Ive seen of it , was also colorful and bold etc. So Its hard to tell if the progression was due to maturity as a painter , or the distortions of an addled mind. Dunno
  3. Art As A Spiritual Quest.

Are you saying the painting doesnt carry any meaning for you spiritually or that it does ? As for what meaning has to do with spirituality? My answer is -everything !- that without having meaning or directionality you cant do anything spiritual . If its all meaningless to (you) , what can you do, or feel, that is spiritual ? about anything!
  4. Art As A Spiritual Quest.

Yes the painting is brilliant but He had a fire fetish ,went insane is that still good stuff?
  5. Taoism or Taoism?

Cycles are natural , one can enjoy the going up and one can enjoy the going down like the falling asleep cozy and moving on picking one as good and the other as bad isnt taoish its bias IMPO

  8. can you sin against a ham sandwich? Can it sin against you? As everyone does, I am speaking from my own perspective, and I do not consider tao to be so undefined that nothing can be said about it. A blob is incompletely described and yet there are blobs which one understands would not be houseplants. You theist you.

  15. Your deities?

If there is no emotional 'message' detectable by the audience, it would be fair to say its not art, whether its appealing to look at or not.
  16. Your deities?

The vigor of my people is no excuse for my attitude?
  17. There is the social definition socially derived and there is the personal attribution personally derived But the tao recognizes neither, it cannot be defied, and so it can not be sinned against by anyone and , impartial ,has no intent -so it cannot sin against anyone.

Nothing happens to it. It is what it ever has been , and if it was a hand then it still would be. It is repurposed to grab.
