Thats quite a spin ! ( axholes) prompting one to develop ones patience. I like it. and if it be so , then that which you are, is evolving in a direction that you approve. self cultivated , so to speak , with an intermediary assistant of an axhole.

Youve been showing a kinder gentler, more tolerant side of your personality of late , I hope thats not insulting to say continuing with that , Its just my opinion to leave Mr Wilber out of things for a while. The stance he has , represents a regression. IMO

A different short answer is Yes, because virtue is subjective opinion the reality of virtue is spurious They give an example: of finding lost money some think its fine to keep , some think one has to search for an owner. One does something harmful to another .. and others consider retribution deserved or maybe they dont There are so many caveats and pivotable conditions , which individuals weigh seperately and differently that there is no "right " virtue , there is also no character or trait type virtue ,which is always beneficial. Like , ,a fat person may float better, and a skinny person might endure heat better. Whether a trait or "virtue" is beneficial or expedient ,, depends entirely on circumstance and subjective opinion. And while groups may be in accord about one thing or another,, they come to that accord independently. Changing ones own stance on a virtue is also malleable , not infinitely so ,, but within bounds it is possible to reconsider and adjust or accept new virtue or vice.

Some say stuff that has no basis, serves as no guide, and make no sense. -
That may be true, but having your family living out of a van.. not so cool.

"I don't believe, for example, that Aztec human sacrifice was a way to reach God, This says to me that if one is secure in one's beliefs, there is no problem. Yes, I cherry-pick... we always pick the sweetest fruit and what tastes good to us, don't we? "If you can't see God in all, you can't see God at all." ;)" Yep -
5And whenever a man came near to pay homage to him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him. 6Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

How deep can you really go with a Vegetarian Diet?
Stosh replied to 4bsolute's topic in General Discussion
Its not just the quantity of protein, but the types of amino acids and the problem of having to substitute carbs for the protein because the body cant provide enough glucose from fats alone to keep you going.(brains run on glucose solely and the conversions of foodstuffs is not based on your attitude) ( and spirulina is fifty times as expensive as chicken) But aside from the nutritional things ( nutrition isnt the OP stance for going vegan here) Understanding that there is no right or wrong (that is not subjective) is part of what I am trying to underline. If the rightness or wrongness of killing and eating things is subjective then it doesnt have any basis to consider themselves better because of their food selections. They could deny themselves fruit ,dancing or television instead. (It isnt doing any favors to spread the idea that one needs to conform to a complicated and potentially harmful diet to be or indicate they are "good" people ) It is the teaching oneself restraint and strengthening will that is the potential spiritual benefit. Teaching that all life is unified means that things dying and being eaten is just part of the cycle of life, wildebeest are not less or more spiritual than lions, and grass is not better than wildebeest. Yin and yang together form the cycle , they dont exist alone, so yin or yang doesnt equate to 'good and bad' or 'nice and mean'. Its still clinging to value judgements. However, if you are talking about sprituality, it implies compassion for every living creature, not just humans. In that case, even a vegetarian diet isn't enough. Enough for what? That ..is a value judgement compassion is not a sentiment central to the spirituality of Tao but If you are of a Buddhist bent it is self consistent, I guess. What does it mean to keep ones footprint small if no one ( including me) cares to refrain from judgement or interference? Thats one reason why the wise keep their mouth shut. Another is that the breath is usually wasted . -

Good question! Ask the folks claiming greater spirituality based on food selection. -

I get a little tired about having to pussyfoot when others are tramping around in clogs. I'm glad someone can see the sillyness of quantifying spirituality and making that kind of comparison. Now if the vegetarian-spiritual connectors could see that ego crutch for what it is we'd be cooking with gas, bt I guess it will fall on deaf ears, it is much easier to adjust a diet than shift an attitude drop an illusion or forgo the substitute. Carbs make people fat , retain triglycerides, exhaughst the pancreas, and subdue the energy of will. Its just a chemically mediated situation. For Those who can make it work terriffic, but circumvention of the problems doesn't make them not exist , they continue in the form of the detour. -

Thanks , thats precisely the reason why I am so against this unhealthy association of food with spirituality. Its wrong, egotistically flattering, and physically unwise unless your metabolism fits it. I need to eat extra vitamin d and B2 , thats just my metabolism.. so Ive been encouraged to eat red meats fish and dairy , and thats exactly what I am doing, and I think I can "out spiritual" most of the folks here. -
Thou art forgiven , but What are you contending is the delimitation of attitude from acceptance? Im pretty sure acceptance is embodied as an attitude Specifically. An attitude being an emotional stance which dictates ones response to given circumstance, within some consistent parameters or of a particular character. Thats what it means to have an attitude. Why are you picking on my word choices so stringently ? if we arent really at odds , why put us at them?
-
"Its not attitude Stosh, well not for me, its good mental health." "My Dad was a jovial character even in times of great stress, and he had a positive influence especially my attitude towards health matters"
-
Well thats a very positive attitude toward self determination, and it has its validity , I just dont think everyone has as much control over the situations that befall them as that since its very difficult to the the ramifications of ones actions or predict well the random calamities that do happen. (Like illness and floods etc.) A good attitude or intent doesnt guarantee good outcome.

Im in accord with most of that but that 'part unintelligible' is actually intelligible. but I may have said it crudely. Money is allocated to that which society wants , folks vote with their feet so to speak. Since money is free of any specific intrinsic value.. it can be spent wherever on whatever one wants to spend it on. Folks try to supply -that for which- there is money to be made on. Ex.. if all I had to barter with were hogs, my market consists of only hog consumers, and I couldnt spend my 'hog dollars' on televisions made by folks who dont eat meat.Money by virtue of its intangibility (whether paper or digital zeros) frees resources to go to what society wants, even if its a pet rock or beanie baby. So society collectively is supplied. I dont know what monks meditate on really , but I suspect that in a world increasingly complicated , a spiritual anchor potentially, might become an even greater asset ,,to answer- "what the farg am I doing here?" and " Is this even good?".

Im not sure I would agree with Mr Trine in all circumstances since it suggests that one should suffer in silence rather than expose themselves as being 'imperfect'. (pride and fear) Yes I can make things worse by complaining Yes I can be a bummer but on the other hand sometimes positive feedback can potentially help break a bummer cycle that cannot be clearly expressed in happy terms. And yes at other times ,,it could just be a 'bad habit'.
