Nothing wrong with appreciating the pointy delicacy of the thorns and the determined assertion of the canes right along with the evasive scent of the bloom the depth of the color and the sparkly rainbows in the water droplets Judging it ALL wonderous ,a pleasure , a drama IMO The reason why Im saying this is that the beauty of a rose is not truly in the rose itself it is the capacity within ourselves to have the feelings and sentiments we do My cat couldnt care less about the flower than it bobs in the wind (like prey as far as I can tell) appreciating all the circumstances that we bring upon ourselves, our failures and successes shortcomings and strengths included , is accepting that we are whatever we are And in THAT one can come to get off ones own back enough to richly BE it is tough to let go of judgements ,, but to the extent that one can let go of the negative ones one can benefit . Some of the vain assessment can go as well . maybe just enough to leave the weights we feel light enough to shrug off casually.....so we can see the next thing freshly.

We are in complete agreement ! have a nice evening:)

If the human mind is empty- unbiased blank slate to begin with then whatever biases folks have is dependent on chemistry and socialization. Its the human condition for folks to grow up in a socializing environment and its also human bent to develop empathy as its also normal to have fears and desires for oneself. Its a powerful thing to understand the emotions and motivations of others - both to manipulate your peers and have satisfying relationships to significant others. Empathy sympathy love hate etc are possibilities , they are also PROBABILITIES within the context of human upbringing. How one defines human nature, whether to include the probable sentiments as being human nature or whether to assign that descriptive to the finalized versions is personal view. As I see it personally , since the empathy is based on human brainpower and rather connected to innate hard wiring I consider it to be the 'nature of humans' , but concede that an empathic nature may not develop , that folks can end up not feeling connected with the destinies and feelings of others. Either way, one could easily agree, if they chose to, that if humans have an innate basic nature , we are quite flexible in some respects. If there is a human nature beyond those things is for speculation.

You and I have learned many things some of them were right for us and some of them were wrong which those are, is hard to know but only you and I can say Which it is ,that should go and which of those should stay

My opinion is thats how it ususally goes so ,yes yes yes yes , and- what you get is concensus of a sort that doesnt neccesarily meet ones personal need. Its called politics , I think . There is stuff MH is interested in and there is stuff he doesnt post much on , Gmp was posting about everythiing early on , but now he seems more selective , the only conclusion really to see is that they have a sociable bent , they add a constancy and flavor to the proceedings, and if there is anything one really needs to know that they dont , it is up to them to decide which posts are most significant - the rest are still available

How much weird stuff do you see in complete darkness?
Stosh replied to Owledge's topic in General Discussion
Oh you mean those purple and green waves of color that wash through the blank visual field? I figure its my brain looking for its usual dose of input from the eyes and focusing on random firing of neurons which happens all the time. Instead of counting sheep I make them wash in different patterns until my brain stops looking for them and moves on to visualizations ...or I fall asleep. OOps nearly simultaneous posting of similar posts , a fraction of a minute late I am redundant oh well -
Does it not need some correction somewhere around lines 15 or 16 for the passage to make a cohesive whole? And-Or a separation between lines 11 and 12?

The Dao as a deistic, rather than pantheistic concept?
Stosh replied to Phi92's topic in Daoist Discussion
I appreciate titbits as well -
Debts are a theoretical abstract based on fairness which is based on perspective and therefore empty America is a theoretical concept based on grouping , which is based on collective perspective and also empty Wrongness is a theoretical idea based on opinion which again is empty If you choose to not examine this stuff for some anchoring point .. thats up to you personally I think one can find that they are essentially baseless as far as the universe is concerned and if you should find that to be so .. you may be less disturbed by the state of your present circumstance and the state of all humanity as a whole ( which would be a great burden indeed - that you cant change anyway)

for those of you that can ready people's energy over the internet..
Stosh replied to ancienthealth's topic in General Discussion
Why should anyone respond if they havent made up their mind in advance , just like you and me?? .... We do post , hopefully ..Because the one who has made up their mind is contributing their understanding in the best interest in the readers of the postings. I dont think it behooves anyone to entertain the fabulous false ,( which undermines a greater truth that your own understanding may contain on spiritual matters ) to engender or foster gullibility OR to support development of uncertainty about simple everyday facts of life that are best accepted. Some concepts folks hold are based on deceptions , others are not. Conveying which is which, is the best lesson-gift (though we may not agree) Have a nice weekend regardless. Stosh -
Lovely writing there Judo!

for those of you that can ready people's energy over the internet..
Stosh replied to ancienthealth's topic in General Discussion
Getting a sense of another persons energy by what they write on the internet can only be done by interpreting what they wrote how they mean it , what it meant to them is always enigmatic to some degree or other to the reader . If you could read their mind , you wouldnt need an internet connection. (Or to speak , for that matter.) I left it vague so as to leave others to their own perspective Empathy is a real and useful trait , I see no reason to obscure it with 'energy vibes through the ether' -

How true can any words be when the ones one writes aint what the readers see. -
How do you personally employ Wu Wei - Non-action - In Daily life?
Stosh replied to DaoChild's topic in General Discussion
I think its far easier to say what it is not , than what it is that I try to do. Its not self destructive Its not pursuing neurotic behaviors its not creating imaginary crutches It is not driving oneself nuts But the rest is all 'free fish' ( in a Melville sense) So you do whatever you like, as long as it isnt creating new impediments , strife etc IMO -
Both are vague categories unless you associate with a particular subgroup and somewhere within either you may find other folks with closely similar convictions to your own .Beware of the generalizations, which are by nature exclusionary , Dont cram yourself into a box of the wrong shape, bend the box .

Is there such thing as a "life purpose" outside of the one we create for ourselves?
Stosh replied to Unseen_Abilities's topic in General Discussion
Purpose is a matter of perspective Does the blade of grass outside my door have a purpose? Could it be to be tread upon ? Could it be to hold down dirt ? could it be to provide me oxygen? could it be to perpetuate the species ? could it be to feed a grasshopper ? Could it have no purpose and just be self fulfilling ? If a person is helped to answer the ultimate question of 'What do I do now?' by adopting a purpose great , if they can pat themselves on the back that they fulfilled such a purpose fine . If they are in conflict about the purpose they get assigned , or are self assigned ,because they cant meet up to it, , not so fine. -
Leading Geneticist: Human Intelligence is Slowly Declining...
Stosh replied to DalTheJigsaw123's topic in General Discussion
Dumber - smarter? With 12 dozen or so aspects of intelligence to measure , it is a difficult conclusion to arrive at Im not sure I would look first to a geneticist to answer it Kids today have different skill sets , and judging them by the standards we were judged by may not do them justice , the world is far more complicated now. To me it seems wisest to judge , if one must, each case individually, for the traits they have leaving the suppositions about categories of people where they belong in the trash.- 23 replies

It is not a choice; this must be
Stosh replied to Vanir Thunder Dojo Tan's topic in General Discussion
For those unfamiliar ....... wikipedia quote ... a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: nonhitchhiker) discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet-weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitchhiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with. The brown stains significance should be inferred. -
Descriptions and explanations of "The Now"
Stosh replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in General Discussion
I was under the impression that a torus was a calculus function which described a planar circle extended along a circumference . The 2 dimensional 'plane' is extended through the third dimension ,, so the full form is 'analog rather than incremental' But it isnt important , dont worry if I dont get the analogy you are trying to convey , I like when things make sense and reason, but if you prefer a um ..another subjective understanding of time , thats cool. Time as described by modern physicists renders my conventional (linear continuous cartesian) view of time subjective as well. -
Form is but an external dramatization of what may be a spiritual stance and one drapes it on similar to other illusions . wikipedia An ideology is a set of ideas that constitute one's goals, expectations, and actions. An ideology is a comprehensive vision, a way of looking at things (compare worldview) as in several philosophical tendencies (see political ideologies), or a set of ideas proposed by the dominant class of a society to all members of this society (a "received consciousness" or product of socialization). Etiquette without the ideology is truly hollow , a perversion whereas ideology may spawn ettiquete as described But thats just my opinion

If no one is clapping ,it is harmonius that one should hear no sound. (The listener is is accord with the event)

If the tradition is a recognition of a true state of affairs ( regarding the world and human condition) then folk of any age might recognize it . If it is just a cultural view depending on mindset then we might not 'get it'. But the conclusion that folks are really so different, then from now ,or here from there, seems inference to me and -empty. Certainly there are those today who believe they 'get it' ,, and they could all be wrong ,, but then again of all them folks back then ,, they could also have been wrong. Since the effect is subjective , there is no way to prove or disprove 'getting it' , then or now, that I know of, without putting arbitrary -empty delineations on what traditions a person holds to.

Sorry Judo , I still dont get the significance but thanks. unless its just asserting that yesterday is gone and tomorrow isnt here yet ,, which to me doesnt really need much asserting or visualizing. -
Descriptions and explanations of "The Now"
Stosh replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in General Discussion
Its an amusing scenario , but It doesnt really approach the question I have about the 'meaning' -benefit a person might derive from the segmented view of time. Thanks for giving it a shot though.
