Mindfulness and thoughts. Are we supposed to stop our thoughts?
Stosh replied to dc9's topic in General Discussion
I read it even though I rarely follow redirects , because I respect your opinions and posts This redirect though doesnt describe anything I am unaware of already On two stages I stand my ground One, there is described experience to the situation achieved , and therefore there is not complete emptiness Two, the mind still contains all the stuff being ignored or bypassed or accepted , its just not at the fore. Stosh Ps I dont think I really dont need to sit in the state described to know the feeling of it I feel I get it like some other abstracts, right here, right now, at face value I feel I have a sense of the meaning of it , Im just not wallowing in it at the moment Cant you remember a shadow of your past happiness , dread, sorrow etc blah blah blah at least a bit even now while reading? Why are there fewer women than men in search of Enlightenment and Freedom from Samsara?
Stosh replied to SunLover's topic in General Discussion
When you go through the thread , If you choose to, you may see the point I am making way along here That women arent finding satisfaction (statistically) in their relationships with their men because they arent accepting of them , they trend towards dividing themselves from the interests and emotional needs of their men, for various reasons. I equate deeper spiritual tendencies toward both other people and Enlightenment as going hand in hand. And while some men are willing to go so far as to say that women are MORE spiritual than men , the women dont even concede they have any fault at all! If youre a woman you can profess to be cleaner more pure more spiritual and blessed with the wondrous nature of childbirth and compassion , whilst men are brutish cruel loud and dirty things a woman is best rid of. Have you yourself notice noticed the supportive embracing attitude expressed by the males toward women throughout this thread, the desire for meaningful relationship and acceptance. On the other hand you have the women expressing something between cold blame and disdain for the opposite gender. Between the two groups who would you describe as 'spiritual' ? And in the responses generated evidence ample reveals itself why someone may conclude that women are not searching for Enlightenment. ( except via scented candle) even sunin draws a sharp line between herself and her man. Stosh -
Sounds like youre on the same page as I Like if you think humans get reincarnated as animals that would put the kibosh on eating them. That makes good enough sense But I just dont get the idea that its somehow Natural and virtuous that a cat can eat a bird and a bird can eat a fish and a fish can eat a bug but for a human to have compassion they have to not eat normal food , stare into space a good portion of the day, and deconstruct their identity. Stosh the monestary still hasnt called for some reason

Well then , since you have this here backgound , Buddha ate meat Lao and Chuang had no problem with butchers or cooked fish Hindus can eat most meat Non monk Taoists eat meat Some buddhists dont eat meat Monk Taoists dont eat meat So , in your opinion ,who the heck is it that started the darn vegetarian thing? It still seems a result of failing to understand the original messages by somebody! and the only group metioned to go that way was either Buddhist or Taoist, and there is nothing I see in the TTC or Chuang zi that doesnt in fact contradict it. So I figure that leaves Huang lao or the proto-hindu religions, which I am not at all familiar with. Stosh

There is no point living on Earth when you refuse to acknowledge your point of origin from the Stars.

Yeah , and the speculative aspect is why does this person choose to say it. have a nice evening Stosh -

Having a point to living , as I see it is a sort of subjective sentiment I think it is byproduct to the natural social human situation Folks need some sense of purpose and belonging generally Sartre ,I think, suggested that having concluded that one has no larger role to play no significance relative to anything , caused an experience of angst . Since Sunlover never said he wasnt Tulku ,, it makes sense to figure its the same person others seem to recognize the rhetoric And the very first thing somebody else would have said is "Who the heck is Tulku ?" Yes I was referring to the story by Tulku and speculatively the King would be a likely standpoint for the person posting the story to consider themselves as holding. Funniness is at the boundary of two things the things we find appropriate-true the things we find inappropriate and untrue When folks sense these simultaneously overlapping its funny. If a person doesnt hold the boundaries in the right place for the joke to overlap them , they dont consider it funny. Theres probably some other situations that work for humor but thats how I look at it. Stosh -

Refusal to acknowlege that subjective view of the world is not connected to a person generating their own subjective value (point) in living Besides ,, thinking you come from the stars doesnt imbue you with any objective POINT in living either. Stosh -
I stand corrected , The Buddha was wise Hindu? Stosh

Fish would be the last thing I would consider buying at a grocery store, for several reasons .. freshness, sanitary conditions water quality ,'farm raised' antibiotics ,etc but I guess thats a judgement call which depends on how you weight things. But regarding the theme of the thread , I have no more guilt about having to eat and what I eat than my cat does and I see nothing spiritual Tao-wise about having it, its more like a borrowed failing from Buddhism. Even if the King signifies the ego and even if the middle finger usage is witty the general theme of the story is about alienation , and hence not funny to me. Its easy , when being creative to wrap personal messages into a story. That doesnt mean I buy the idea that I have to be sympathetic to his explanation about his behavior because it still lacks personal admission of the situation. I think he is smart and manipulative And like Chuang tzu not requiring retaliation remediation it is suggested that one keep the tally on the ledger and just watch to see how things shake down. Since the council for the defense has opened up this line of inquery .. by the rules of discovery any objection to its track should be overruled. Hence the middle finger should also be allowed. Stosh -

Even with that interesting asspect Which contrasts with the defiance the gesture means here,, It still seems to imply that the king wishes to share his 'sanity' So.. still not funny to me. Stosh -

In paragraph 1 it says the king was not acting crazy SPECIFICALLY. So in the view of the author , the finger raising wasn't a crazy act. It doesnt seem to end up funny because the King who was once well loved feels remote from his people and cant bring himself to change or relate. I think its sad, but sometimes things just are like that. Stosh -

Well if thats true , it would imply folks who are abused, are likely, just as abusive as the person they complain about . Maybe passive aggressive methodology but its still there So That innocent acting chick with the brown hair is likely emotionally tormenting the angry dude. Why did she marry him ? Money perhaps? That may be a telling statistic , men basically doing things on their own first. But exceptions dont disprove statistics ( though I dont have the statistics) Stosh -

I cant really speak for thousands of years worth of behavior It just seems like women are statistically blaming men for their situation Angry loud unhappy old dude screaming to a much younger woman with nice hair suffering it. But it doesnt jive with dudes being more satisfied in their relationships really unless you think all men are wife haters who love to be mean. All the married men I know for the most par kow tow to their wives and joke it off. Honey , do this honey do that (from the wife) Husband says ,"Hey get me a beer sweetie" and the response is indignation. -

Stosh replied to SunLover's topic in General Discussion
Would this not emphasize-underline women are not sucessfully finding satisfaction in their relationships ,(coupled with not looking for spiritual satisfaction elsewhere either?) Why not? It kind of suggests to me that men tend more to search and find that which satisfies them ,or , they are satisfied with what they find. Stosh -

Im quite surprised at your expression of stereotype there. Very tempting to respond in kind. I dont know if its trolling , I see it as button pushing I also dont know Tulku-sunlovers full history here I guess I see him as our own angel-demon right out of the book of the dead. Stosh -
