The idea that one has to act like some submissive chick to fit with Tao is basically some folks take, but not all folks take, on the craft of it. You can still be a hard ass, tough nut to crack, headstrong , dude or any where inbetween. The Tao is subtle and it has 10000 ways. Do even the females seem weenie to you ? Be you being Tao. Stosh

There are a lot of things I just dont believe in Shanlung, But two things are pretty obvious I dont know everything and folks have all sorts of reasons for believing what they do. I think forums like this are a great venue for folks to test their own tolerance , its probably the best lesson one can learn this way. Heck , the situation practically begs for persons to stick their neck out , and others to try to hand them their heads. Dont sweat it. Stosh

I can't quite put my finger on why but there was something weird about that clip..... Stosh -
Since you arent crazy abou the area with the torenia I thought I might toss an idea out ,extend the junipers which are driveway side to that side of the 'walk' so there is a path amongst them the border of which should be assymetric like a golf course green. ( if you need to keep the pavers at all ,since only a foot over you have the mulch) Stosh Red does look nice against juniper , I cant tell what space you have over there. Russelia is rather broad .

Thats an idea you should reexamine for validity but thats up to you. Stosh

I didnt think so either, since I was under the impression that mtiger was originally asking about web resources or books discussing Taoist food choices. ( what do I know , about this stuff , heck I still think that if water opposes fire then fire opposes water ) So If Mtiger takes a cold shower anyway then what happens his pilot light goes out ? Since nobody else responded yet, Yin and yang can be looked at different ways , its not just effort that gets described with those terms. a thing can either garner energy or expend energy a thing can be light or dark a thing can be male or female high or low etc etc blah blah blah or it can been as a situation of complimentary opposites the poles of a spectrum etc . The way you end up looking at the subject will probably be indicative of who you line up with philosophically or vice versa Stosh

Is a cold shower a great call ? Stosh

I agree with Practioner , the normal tendency is to bias for yang virtues the Laoist tendency is to bias for Yin virtues The fullest view is to bais in favor of both expressions of ones self. Stosh

Im just starting, the Birth of Tragedy, is the Apollonian Dionyson division supposed to reflect other 'world views' than of the greek artist? Stosh

Well, yes , the situations they are in ,seem to inspire opposition. Fred is saying that its what we and he tends to do. Chuang , seems to know some sort of action is what one would be intending but is reticent about it. (He still has options , like give the MAN enough rope for him to hang himself. But I dont see this as a 'legitimate' question that he is really asking ) Freds line is funny and fast in its irony , immediately one can recognize similar motivations and responses having been ours. Chuangs posit is more rhetorical. Like when my mother said "what am I going to do with you?" and again its immediately recognizable as rhetorical. So I can agree the lesson of both is in the self reflection inspired But I dont see either making any clear stand about what is proper from their own view. Simply the musings of a young man fond of fire and an old man fond of warm socks. Stosh

Since the task here to compare and contrast, I believe and I havent gotten any books on fred yet I am looking to the face value of the statements as presented Fred is describing human nature , the secret no one wants to admit to all of. Rebelling at boredom ,or the like, and perhaps with the tendency to push a point, which doesnt really need to be pushed at all , blaming the other , while actually bearining the responsibility of the disharmony himself Whereas ChT or his fictional representation of himself is reluctant here to make trouble or allow trouble to happen. He is 'mistakenly' shouldering the endangerment of the state (properly attributable as the doing of THE MAN) and acting a bit fearful for himself By avoiding his duty to act so I would see it clear that he could be speaking of himself as well, taking the part of - a man not recognizing his own faults and endangering harmonious continuation of the state. So this too would be dancing around the subject of the human condition blaming another ,while actually bearining the responsibility of disharmony oneself Stosh.

Just for additional confirmation , ditto on the willow and the muscovy . The goose on the left looks like a cross to me too I need to check out my books before I take a guess on it But if you go to FLIKr there is a forum specifically aimed at ID ing waterfowl-domestic crosses and there are some really remarkable folks who really know their shtick. (as does Age Sage -obviously ) Stosh

That is admirable , growing from seed ,Im thinking lillies take a long time that way, I started some rain lillies which didnt accumulate enough size to flower until the third year. And they arent even big. Most folks I know never really bother to grow from seed but there is so much more variety cheaply available that way .... Purslane grows pretty easy from seed too, if you catch them. Oh , get another cat too. Stosh Whats the pink flowers behind the ruellia ? nicotania? The orange looks like lantana , but behind that looks like juniper. Juniper? what do you think of russelia as an accent for it. OOps Im running off on on tangents again , before the bird hobby I was a plant nut , I had over a hundred species in my back yard. The girlfriend wanted everything to match like dinnerware Ughh.

I like wandering threads for some topics , some are started it seems ,with that in mind Then others were started to get a particular answer , that once gotten , the starter sort of walks off and leaves the thread running. For that Fred thread you were monitoring it and keeping it on a track, you allowed momentary diversions but you didnt abandon the conversational point. So , it makes sense that its up to the initiator to guide a thread if they want it guided. Simple as that. Did you notice your writing style isnt the same now as back then? I thought it a marked difference. Hmmm. I dont have a yard anymore, but I checked out what I thought was Venus this morning. I still dont know where your post was going on that , I hope I didnt annoy. Stosh
