I too would endorse Fhs presentation , from the parts I have seen, it is written smoothly, makes sense, and probably more closely embodies the traditional understanding ,such as it was intended. The only better one hasnt been put in print yet.

I'm thinking that other people help to keep us grounded, and a total disconnect from other human beings is a painful state which individuals are willing to sacrifice for, majorly, to avoid.

Well , one can't draw a probability curve from only one data point. There is only this orb , and on it a single genetic lineage, that is it. And even on this orb, life preponderantly, is non-humanoid. Humans developed hands , but other creatures have other appendages, shapes , symmetries and life plans. There categorically are no other 'humanoids' within the scope of human contact , ( and beyond that is moot) . All I saw was the clip, and the implication that it has something to do with Samurai code. In the clip , and by you, Forest is attributed justifications for his actions. But he has none. He is a hit-man on retainer to a mobster. And the Samurai thing is not about getting bent out of shape and acting out his personal animosities. Without justifications, the event is that he drives up and kills some people he doesn't like. The end. You, or I, as the audience , is expected to connect the provided dots and make justifications so he isnt seen as a monster , antithetical to society , which he is. By his , Forests, code , in the non justified immoral world , the poachers are just as justified in killing the bear , and they are entirely justified to shoot Forest on sight for being black. Read that twice , if you agree with Forest , the racists are just as right to kill him for being black. He is a good for nothing criminal hood who should rightly be hung by the neck. There's no place in society for that. But one can enjoy the movie as fantasy. In my version of the movie, as soon as Forest pulls up in the car, the hunters cut him in half with the shotgun, and take off with the bear. With Forest's last breath he says.... " I should've chosen Daoism" , Karmic justice is served.

The philosophy is fine, the shooting of the poachers is not. Forest , takes on a cape of justification for his actions. Justifications are abstracts. This resonates with an ideal that one may be hard soulless and violent , that in fact, one would be a despicable coward if they didn't follow in his lead. But he is moved by insult, moved by his personal sense of self righteousness and anger, he was not strong here, he was pushed around by his ego like a child. Oh, I do understand the cause for cautions, but one day I realized I wasn't a fifteen yr old girl, and creating an idealized persona to fake people out didnt seem to be of any use to me. I prefer to be known for who I actually am , and so I can really only be slammed for that. ( made up stuff ,could be made up, regardless of what I disclose ) I'm no tough guy , no genius or corporate bigshot , never hurt a flea , and being cognizant of all that , well ,, y'all are left with a confusing gooey enigma.

Oh, I'm passionate about almost everything, sometimes I let it fly. Something I get from this Daoism , is 'encouragement' to be more moderate, coming from a wiser perspective. Sure my past influences me, as does the present , and will the future. Well if my science type view sheds light , thats a good step. At The very least , it gives you a venue to express your own angle. To the shooting bullets of hurtful energy , if I can paraphrase , I would make the analogy of what is called 'casual brutality'. To me , minds are possessed by individuals , and any collective mind , would be the um .. feedback and interplay of the emotions-sentiments of the individuals. We, I , was taught to be rather rough, in my family , sarcasm was The method of conversation. It was really very negative energy. As I have gotten older, I see a lot of this kind of 'casual brutality' , and another kind , which is just as bad, and that is the 'unspoken disparagement'. One learns to read between the lines , and those messages aren't warm and cuddly either .( At least the overt stuff gives one an opportunity to defend themselves) . You're right though, any way you slice it , the energies getting wildly and sloppily flung about are often ,,, overlooked.

I can't , and don't wish to deny any of that. I was presenting my own .. template .. my view on how the dynamics work which doesn't require , what I consider, vague references to energies. I must admit though that my template isn't for everyone but I think it has predictive power , and potentially suggests ways to improve social situations , which energies do not. What I am suggesting is a way to see folks in a less unflattering light , not for their benefit, but for the reader. Its a cold world when we think everyone around us is an idiot , or that we can't find ways to relate. Its up to you whether you consider this bait to look tempting. Social paradigms , can influence our own ideas, ,, but so can a sunny day , wet feet , a full belly. That's just how it is, I am most at peace when the things around me are not people. When there are people , I find it hard not to get wrapped up in that. Real conversations whip along , with little reflection being done , on whats being implied on a broader scale. So , What is making folks tick, may be lost in a confusion born or reactive responses, and what starts out as a desire to be helpful , to interact, to find that -common ground- we want to be on,, becomes some kind of gladiatorial confrontation. Each person then is struggling to maintain and present their actual view, in the presence of.. alternate ones, and either hoping the other side will 'see- the- light' that is so obvious to us . ( which almost never happens ) or they are just looking to keep themselves un-conflicted , and respectable ,,to, Preserve ones dignity and integrity , in a situation which someone elses view is what hangs in the balance.

I watched a fight the other night, the two went at it swinging and kicking, Suddenly the challenger tosses out a light jab, which just happens to ping the chin of the champ. His head snapped just enough to shake his brain, and the fight was over. All the crushing blows and kicks before it just got absorbed, or were deflected. It was just a very vivid visual analogy. I dont know the best moral about failure to spin out of that story, but it feels like it could have one. Maybe its that one cant measure value in the effort spent. Or maybe things are just in the cards, or not to be done. Or that everything can be seen as both having merit , and having none.
