It's long enough if you live in the present , or are actually a butterfly.

Ok, I'm not disagreeing, all of that may be true taking the normal presumptions as standard. Im just saying - that the actual state of a tradition is as varied as those that are trying to follow them. So there is no authentic vs inauthentic delineation as a matter of actual practice. Whatever one practices and believes authentically , is the authentic actuality of the tradition. For example, some folks eat ham on thanksgiving , others say its not authentic, they are supposed to eat turkey. But the tradition is what people actually DO , and some people actually do eat ham for thanksgiving. What I read - the originators who are being emulated -, probably ate bluefish , which was a common catch and likely what was actually consumed , IF the holiday even happened at all , with folks figuring it to become a federal holiday , ( which they probably didn't ). If you ask yogis about Buddha , they would probably consider his preaching to be similar to many others , in having common ancestry, but a father isn't actually his own son, nor is he a more valid human being , nor is the son 'supposed ' to be a carbon copy of his dad. The normal presumption which I mentioned at the start of this post , is that there is legitimacy to the idea of traditions , it is a grouping which exists as a figment of human thought , it is not actual or real,,, outside of fitting the arbitrary definitions people impose to assert that their beliefs have more validity than someone elses. You can use this construct as a tool for investigation , but its like being accurate at naming Santas reindeer.

Since each person has to reinterpret expounded principles of any tradition to apply those teachings to themselves, traditions have an inherent flexibility. Regardless of what one pictures a tradition to be , one should decide if their adherence is going to be to the tradition or to what they feel the tradition imparts to them. If Buddha was moved to embrace compassion, in particular, as a vehicle for the rectification of social ills, one might call him a reformer,, but its not like the Vedic tradition did not consider this as but one path with validity. Nor should this particular emphasis be dismissed as but one more hair on a dog.

I always figured it meant I ticked off a moderator or steward and was up for examination.

That's better , I like your politeness , responding and being clear is most respectful , and I respect it in return. Unfortunately perhaps that is becoming rare, but it is a good trait for a teacher . Though ,You shouldn't make much of my opinion on the pressure cooker , it IS good for making some savory and moist dishes. That it saves time is a bonus, but its also a valid perspective to suggest that spending ones time preparing nice meals , slowing down, and recognizing its just fine not to rush off to the next thing. Not a big deal either way. White blond and tall aren't really all that important attributes , its notable that you might think there's truth in it though ,, but yes looking good in yoga pants will lend credibility that you can provide leadership for those who wish to look good in yoga pants., note that your Sifu is a dude and so he isn't even female. I do agree it makes sense that if you want to teach something , you would want to have the feeling that you have something valuable to teach , but know that teaching can be a drain on ones energies and be one of those instances where your own positive motivations drive you from a sense of peace. I've done a little and with my intensity being what it is , I tend to get impatient. ( which I have no intent to modify, because I would have to water down my own enthusiasm to the lowest common denominator to own it.) Its a tricky thing when we decide we might need some fixin because who we are , is such a personal business. Liking your trainer , trusting him to teach what he teaches , that is good stuff though. If you end up being an extraordinarily patient and satisfied person , theres nothing wrong with having that in the tool belt , or a pressure cooker. I do however think it would be a good thing to ask yourself , just how into this particular thing are you ? do you feel like you're being driven unhappily , driving to hard , or aiming at things you don't give a s about really. You stick with your threads you read the posts , you respond to the participants , and want to hand out cookies. To me this at least is an example of a thing you do well , and like to do, so its a good thing for you to do , for now , till something else draws your attention. I hope that all I was saying there doesn't sound preachy or 'know it all in tone' , I'm hoping its supportive enough, my, just blabbing out-loud sentiments , on your subject of the day .

I couldn't say if that fits the philosophy, as a fact, but it does seem like a valid affirming way to go about things. Though Its just still an act of mind , as I see it. The naturalness of animals that which we call instinct or genetic programming or the nature of that beast , works for that critter as a species. I imagine they are 'happiest' or fulfilled as the being they are , when they get to live according to those motivations even when lemmings have so much social pressure they drive the perimeter lemmings right off the cliffs, its the best they can do under the circumstances. Humans do have propensities to come to certain sorts of conclusions , and have similar motivations , and though I wouldn't call these instinct since humans are so malleable behaviorally , Im thinking that adherence to the truth of who we become via our socialization , is something Cz would approve of as being 'natural ' virtue. So yes I think Cz would say you have classic virtue. But I don't think its a proven done deal that he was a mystic .. because , in his day scientific method wasn't a paradigm available , they Would have made their cases for conclusions by empirical method, or other means, they Had to. Just as they had to pacify the nonsensical to get along. Though he says some things that might appeal to a person who wants , for some reason, to have the world be rendered inexplicable.. I think he made every attempt to explain, which at the soul of it is rather different from the mysticism (despite the various actions of the 'editors of dictionaries'.) Figuring you out would be an inappropriate assignment when you are available to answer , so you were asked , rather than send myself on a goose chase , or presume I knew what you thought better than you do.

Trying to understand your worldview, whats spiritual stuff if not mental not physical , I don't see what this other realm is. If you are unconscious , your brain isn't online , and you have no spirituality to speak of , right?

Its even more of a challenge if there isnt interest in the responses , I dont want a cookie right now.

Quite right, but if I understand your point .. Quicat may not be in need of more patience , but may indeed still feel like she is short of it , ,, and if that is counterproductive ,, then potentially that would be something left to rectify , No? besides,, I didn't offer to fix anything , I wanted to know why she thought she should consider herself impatient ( as in , having some negative value)

Butting in a bit here because I like you guys and figure I might get away with it... Like,, the mental realm Good point , so it might not be logical to presume that the goal of preservation of ones life was at the center of Daoism for him as it has been said for the shamanistic Daoists We don't,,,,,, have physical concerns ,,,,,,,,,,,, all our concerns are mental The dao has no brain other than can be said exists in the heads of critters , and so any critter that can be said to have wisdom is therefore wiser than a rock. See? That's wise , and the sun shines obliviously.

That actually was a prompting question and not necessarily rhetorical.

How would one measure patience ? When I was little , waiting till Christmas morning seemed a long time. Now they come and go , but can I say that this is an improvement ? or simply having less expectation and hopes for fun. I went on a trip the other day , on a boat , and it was to leave the dock at 600 or so , and we wouldn't get back till the afternoon... well I thought some folks had enough luggage food and water to go a week at sea. I just had a couple liters of water, I tend to just strip my requirements down and forgo things rather than lug stuff around,, ( which could be frugality or laziness- dunno) but ,, I thought to myself , "Just how soon-often , does someone need to eat? ... days get divided into meals , and as that clock strikes a mealtime ,and there's this idea that pops up that eating is needed. So I imagine, much of the idea of impatience revolves around what a clock says ,, that is to say ,, 'What makes one think one is being impatient , do you even need " fixing" ?' One can be of sound mind , having a lot of healthy enthusiasm , or , be programmed to do things at times, and so I guess that one has to evaluate the validity of ones motives, to decide if their impatience really needs adjusting.

The lessons people garner by 'accident' aren't always for the better , some folks get old and grouchy , others simply sink into routines ever more deeply, which , if examined , might be worthy of a re-write. ... like , is the symbol on the thank you button the same thing written twice? ( which might mean in Chinese - I assume- that you ARE a 'thank' , or a - You Youing ? )

on desktop these may be the same? as clicking the 'activity tab' and then the 'my activity' tab, or content I started tab or the other thing , and you get a choice of some filters but I dont think it uses that word .

"I am not altogether on anybody’s side, because nobody is altogether on my side, if you understand me: nobody cares for the woods as I care for them, not even Elves nowadays. Still, I take more kindly to Elves than to others … And there are some things, of course, whose side I am altogether not on; I am against them altogether" ;) -

TREATISE OF THE EXALTED ONE ON RESPONSE AND RETRIBUTION
Stosh replied to Stumpich's topic in Miscellaneous Daoist Texts & Daoist Biographies
FYI random reader... In the explanatory notes of this 1906 publication , thine translators themselves !! disavow that this stuff was actually being claimed to be the writings of Lao , but rather some other person wrote it, and attributed the opinions to Him, and the translators were perfectly content to lead to the conclusion that there is some reason to think Li Erh - or Lao had these sentiments. Which isn't saying that they are invalid sentiments , but one should not be surprised if they have no semblance to that which is espoused in the Laozi whatsoever. -
Grafting is a generic simple process , but you need to get it right , I did google and saw this ... The sex of a tree is determined by the type of flowers it bears, but gender is not always clear cut with a persimmon tree (Diospyros kaki). A persimmon tree may be male, female, both or change its sex from one year to the next year. Although many seedless varieties of persimmons are self-fruitful and don't need a tree of the opposite sex for pollination, other persimmons need a tree of the opposite gender for pollination. Professional persimmon farmers use a ratio of eight female trees for every male tree. Persimmons are hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 7 through 10. 1 Look at 1-year-old growth on the persimmon tree in March, and find its inconspicuous flowers. 2 Find groups of three flowers together to identify male blossoms, which have a pink tinge. A persimmon tree with a large percentage of male flowers is male. 3 Identify female flowers as those that grow alone and have an off-white or cream color. A majority of these kinds of flowers on the tree mean the tree is female. 4 Spot rare, perfect flowers on the persimmon tree by finding flowers that each has a large ovary at its base and more than eight stamen in the flower's center. Perfect flowers blend aspects of male and female flowers. These types of flowers can occur on either male or female trees. 5 Repeat identifying the tree's sex the following year to learn whether or not the tree changes the sex of flowers it bears. Sponsored Links It would be interesting to know, if , when a graft is on a tree, if the gender of the flowers will just be the same as the tree overall , whatever it produces that year .. dunno .. but I would presume that , since trees without an obvious pollinator can produce fruit , that the loss of flowers could be for another reason. Or if its something about growing conditions TEP < calcium, PH and so forth ) which shifts the gender of the flowers , like with alligators and avg incubation temperature. Or maybe you could spray the tree with horticultural hormones , to make it fruit. Any way , cultivar seems to be important to know. A hard assed persimmon grower would probably say ...Tear it out and plant a new tree?

Very beautifully illustrated , I looked to see if I could download Ziporyn but didn't see anything in that form , I may order something though, now , since I really like the writing you just presented.

But that's exactly what I want you to do , Put stuff in that isn't expressly there! Its called ' filling in the blanks'. Its seems with the constantly fluctuating use of names , that these might not be Confucius and Chuang, or they could be. I'm in the camp that thinks those two had significant opinion differences ,,, like you said ,, on whether the non- instinctual nature of man was the aspect which made man civilizable or if it was the reverse case being true , that mans basic nature was the wellspring of what could be seen as ciivilized. But I don't want to get stuck on petty nuance deciding if the characters are opposed ,or what personages they represent. ( though I think 'Jerk' is exactly ! his personal opinion of Conf. ) Anyway , one of the redirects here posted aimed me at a guy who seemed to think that the whole thing was written to suggest that humans weren't like animals , I assume , because we are learners more than instinct followers., to which I would reply , Who cares? Whats the importance of that ? This is what you would want to pass on to posterity? I don't mind when people disagree with me , it does however bug me, when studiers get so wrapped up in intellectual minutia , they neglect to ever come to an encompassing vision of the overall message ... which brings me back to the start ,, filling in the blanks is whats important. ( the empty spot in the wheel or bowl or building is the useful part , in there is potential , the rest are spokes) If I tell stories that have a moral associated with it, the idea is that youre supposed to glean from your own experience so that you can relate to it . If I want you to get an intellectual factoid that you dont need to relate to , Ill just say it. These authors take a circuitous route which circumscribes the essence of something , they want and expect you to fill in the blank. They describe the outside of the camel , and the reader is supposed to understand that its a camel. They don't just Say ,It's a camel. I held him up for ridicule, and he glared back in stony silence ....... so you know as reader that I have some kind of negative issue with him and he resents me, you understand the intensity and the emotions but maybe not the reasons , which I could supply but this point is made.
