what is the value of philosophical debate
de_paradise replied to solxyz's topic in General Discussion
There is a kind of knowlege that you can only experience. This is called "knowing" It is a result of cultivating and transforming the mind/body. This kind of knowlege few people in the West have, and 99.99% even do not even recognize the existence of this experiential "knowing." Western philosophers are generally stuck in the book and reasoning type of knowlege, and while it is not "knowing", they pick up on the ideas, even those of sages with direct experience-- like a ball of silly putty pressed over a comic book, then pressed over a blank piece of paper, it makes the original imprint. Most people who have read a few good books on Zen can fake a talk like an enlightened Zen monk. While its not pointless, one must recognize that experiencing "knowing" is the ultimate goal. -
I tend to start with negating the body, and negating the thoughts that are currently going, and then as Scott mentioned, denying anything that the consciousness rests upon. Even qi or energetic activity, gets the not-self boot. There isnt really much more to it than that. The other day I used this meditation, and also going deeply relaxed, and found myself flying in an altered state of consciousness, another world. So in sum, instead of whispering to myself to find myself, I like to negate whatever is there, because there is already a presupposition of looking for self within the negations, and it causes little brain noise.

What do energetic practices have to do with enlightenment?
de_paradise replied to 11:33's topic in General Discussion
If you look at enlightenment as the physiological process of jing to chi to shen, as Taoists do, then you can understand the role of energy practises. Within these processes are many mini physiological processes-- I'm including the etheric and subtle bodies in the term physiological--these processes are in the main clearing impurities, opening and creating new channels, fluids, and other necessary "hardware" the body must generate to reach another "level". If you want large bicepts, you do arm curls. If you want to bolster the energy flow, or certain energy flows, or create certain interactions in your etheric body, well then, sir, you can do energy practices. Its that simple. For some reason, many people, even here, see enlightenment as some kind of cognitive readjustment only. True one can have enlightenment experiences, but to have a stable enlightenment, the jing-chi-shen framework of physiological evolution cannot be avoided. -
2000 bucks!....( whistles)..! My friend got similar results from a smaller sum.

A very effective and time-saving method of therapy is " 5-path hypnotherapy" which age regresses the patient in order to make peace with and resolve emotional issues of the past that are effecting the present. If it is the mother's abandonment that is causing the libido issue, this will come up in the therapy. IF the reason is something else, then that something else will come up.

Jennakins, seeing that you have physical beauty, somehow outrank him in terms of attributes, as you said-- could it be that you have consciously or unconsciously chosen a relationship/man where you can be somehow dominant? If this is the relationship dynamics, it wouldnt surprise me, his thunder/yang/maleness gets dampened. The price you pay for a more secure relationship. I groaned when I read that you initiated sex each time, and completely agree with Freeform about not "getting" sex from him, and that has to shift. "There needs to be a shift where he tries to get sex from you!" Unless that pattern changes, which is key, the frequency will not change. That said, we are all somehow assuming social norms for what a sex life should be like, and as a practising Taoist/Buddhist, I don't even subscribe to that level of frequency.

Hmmm. Not enough information to make proper diagnosis, so I will offer only my personal experience. Eventually I just got bored to the point of being repulsed of having sex with my girlfriend. Not bored with all girls though. One reason to break up. At this point in my life I would be shocked if I ever found someone I didnt eventually get bored having sex with, and I'm not looking either. Its a mystery to me how other people dont get bored with their wives, etc. Sometimes I go low sex drive, and the reasons for that are mysterious and tied up with spirituality.

I realized some time ago that all descriptions of the energy etheric qi body are vastly insufficient and laughable by modern science's body mapping standards, yet modern science does not have the necessary technology or knowlege to even start and etheric body map, what will be quite a task for future generations. There are useful, practical approximations, the same as maps can be drawn differently but still be useful: but nevertheless not the territory. The enlightenment process is very very complicated. We dont need to know what is happening on a biochemical level or etheric body level for it to happen... Whether you choose to find evidence of qi or choose to find nay-sayers is your issue. It may be a big sham indeed

There are many different kinds of energies, some less subtle, ie. more like stuff, some more subtle. What ya mu says is qigong works on animals and therefore is not some kind of hypnosis using some kind of ritual and suggestion. Mind control has many facets and methods. It usually involves in inducing light trance and communication of some suggestion. Qigong is for healing.

I've started doing this meditation, and yes it requires some kind of refining as you get to know it, as many types of meditations only include the very basic instructions but the keys are to be discovered. In answer of your mental process question, you have to say to the thoughts that come up, "not self", just as you say "not self" to your body, the ambient sense data that is streaming in. It doesnt leave you with much, but that rejection of the crude body, sense data, and thoughts is enough. There is nothing there, just a vague instuction to find who you are. You will not consciously detect it, but subconsciously there is a kind of search going on, and when you approach your goal by rejecting "neti, neti" not this, not this, a kind of powerful internal alchemical reaction will get switched on, at times, when you get closer to the self. The conscious may try to fixate on something, be it a location in your body, say your head or near heart chakra. It can attempt to find a more refined energy within your body, say that "inner qi", or extra-body type aura layer---well, those are the kinds of things my mind seems to want to test out, looking for the self. The voidness or blankness of mind, plus the intention to find the self, is generally the most powerful place to park in terms of getting your qi and nadis etc. into turbo. (I'd just like to mention that I feel my qi and nadis in my head, as well as percieve the relative exitation states, which gives feedback to my trial and error tests. What I mean is that I didnt get this answer from a text nor pull it from my ass,)

Which ones of these useful for Kunlun beginner?

Spirituality without an afterlife
de_paradise replied to innerspace_cadet's topic in General Discussion
Spirituality without an afterlife or a purer density existence, would simply be a chosen "way of life", no better or worse than any other. Before I became completely convinced of a self that is grounded in capital "R" reality, in contrast to our small "r" reality, it made sense to live a life that maximized an average 79 years of happiness. Sex is more fun than meditation, etc. But given that this earthbound life is a temporary pitstop, priorities greatly change. -
She had issues. I couldnt read her stuff because its so negative, though its popular on the net. She committed suicide I heard.

Okay, I agree with you again. (made some jasmine tea) Im not saying the englightenment process does not alter one's personality: opens heart, expands one's sense of self, gives spaciousness when dealing with problems etc. Just I dont know how I could attribute behavioural changes to Kunlun since I'm such a flux of tendancies, karma, practises, energies. In the past in Kunlun circles people IMO have talked such fluff, and so I want to be extra careful in not giving Kunlun more than its due. The same people who praised Kunlun can sing the opposite tune.If a person who advises to "just let go" and walk in the tulips smiling at birds, one year later is worried about ghosts and viruses, I conclude that this person (just a hypothetical person) maybe did not reach that energetic transformation they thought they did. Nevertheless, I did go through similar changes you talk about. I suppose I had forgotten already: thats proves that its unconscious, hey. The conscious side of the equation is that behavioral effort that is a method of cultivation itself, and reinforce the practitioner while their energies go topsy turvy.
-
Hmm. I completely agree with what you are saying. I suppose I was arguing more for a Mahayana versus Hinayana kind of behavioural egolessness. Sure Kunlun detoxes and liberates, like many other energy practises, or things like herbal detox or excercise etc. But to go from purging and cleansing to outwardly manifesting generosity, compassion, egoless behavior in everyday life--I think requires conscious effort that doesnt just happen because you feel personally liberated. What I am talking about is an ancient debate, my attitudes reflect my history and bias.

I see overactive imaginations on this thread. Thanks to those who brought some sober analysis to the table here. (especially Ya Mu) The energy is there, doesnt disturb me at all compared to Kundalini. No major glitches in 1.3 years of daily practise. If anything, its not as powerful as I'd hoped; it seems that many other schools have this style of meditation as only one practise among many, which brings the question... Why do Jenny Lamb and Max believe/say this practise is all you need? (in my opionion there at least needs stillness practise as 5ET thoroughly explains, as well, morality or ethical practice because I dont think the energetic transformation does enough to transform one's ego.) The adjuct practises, such as RP/Sah/Spirit travel, that I've done off and on have become more...recognizable, the energy flows in particular ways. Contrast that to for example the first time I tried spirit travel, it just made my arms hurt. I was going to leave off all this stuff in February, but it seems some encouraging results are dribbling in. I remember during the seminar Max said that he was going to spend 2 years spreading his practises. Since then I assumed he was going to stop his seminar road trips by the end of 2009, and thats what happened. (so I don't really put too much stock in the reasons he gave for quitting.) Some people seem to have all sorts of expectations beyond paying 300 bucks to learn some high level meditations. And indeed at its height last year, with the KL forum going at full steam it seemed that it was turning more that just learning a few bits from a friend. The problem, in my view is that when we had access to Max, few good questions were asked. I dont blame him for getting bored-- he abdicated the forum and none of the high level studens stepped in to take charge. The MGD RP problem showed that there was no school, no responsible elder, and we were on our own to make mistakes and grapple with whatever comes.... So anyway, I've got an hour of K1 in front of me. Ciao.

thin auras, and how to improve them?
de_paradise replied to de_paradise's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the suggestions. I dont know if you have ever suggested to someone that they meditate, but in general they dont take that advice. So if you have anything non-meditation, let me know. -
Reminds me of this song, near the end. Guess what they were doing in the church? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4WbwwhBmRk

APR 10 - Birthdays for 2 deities in Taoism!
de_paradise replied to Mak_Tin_Si's topic in General Discussion
Happy birthday dear God of Wealth and Highest King in Heaven, happy birthday to you! -
This kind of thing happened to me yesterday. Not a click but when I became "lucid" it felt like a mass of a jello body slamming into me through my head. Then drifting or rather falling in space, that felt like water. I guess it was astral travel, but coming rather than going, and then drifting off again. I list a few of these type of experiences in my personal practise thread.
-
I was wondering about this too. And for the people who stopped practising I'd like to know the reasons they believe they stopped. Too strong? No results? Dont believe in Max and Jenny Lamb? Not quick quick like the advertisement said? Energy too weird? No desire to reach the Tao because its bad for sex life?

I want to spend the rest of my life meditating and training in neikung
de_paradise replied to Thunder_Gooch's topic in General Discussion
MPG can use this negative propulsion to do more meditations. (yes, negative motivation is just as good as positive motivation, which he also has alot of, perhaps you guys don't see it) If he does a year of what he's talking about then he will be vastly better off than just trying to seek some kind of living-in-society-harmony that alot of people on here are trying to get at. Why? Because not all of us were born with wide open qi channels and we have to spend time doing the meditations. Im not criticizing any of the responders, but I see this as unskillfull advice. You can quote whoever great sage all you want, but behind the great sage was years of devoted practice BEFORE the re-integration with society, where every moment is meditation blah blah blah. Your advice may go a long way in rationalizing your own thinking and life (and perhaps watered down practice), but does not utilize the bhakti of MPG to help him, and just comes across as deflating. The Mahayana adept starts out in the monestery as well; ask a Zen monk next time if he is relatively cut off from society with their baldy cut and grey uniform sitting in a meditation hall most of the time. In sum, go for it MPG. Read some Bodri and Nan, they are very inspiring--because I guarantee you 99.9% of everyone else will not be so encouraging. As far as the lifestyle you want, you are 2 steps away, if only you allow it to happen. -
I want to spend the rest of my life meditating and training in neikung
de_paradise replied to Thunder_Gooch's topic in General Discussion
Hi Pie Guy, I have pretty much the same values and I dont really like toiling away for nothing either. The way to not have to work so much is having little passive income streams such as niche businesses on the internet; another idea is some kind of holiday and market events (few hours, big bang). Anyway, once you figure it out, the same plan can be repeated. They are in most cities around the world, and many arts crafts and whatever fads to sell. Ive done this type of lifestyle for many years in different countries, long before I became a full time meditator. Going to another country and teaching English for say 15 hours a week is good too, if the school is close and you dont spend so much time preparing or commuting. I like non-English speaking countries because things like advertising and peoples gossip doesnt distract one's mind. I have the same reservations about monestaries or some neo-monestary full of new agers. Its a general social belief that if you want to meditate alot you should join one, but thats just a fantasy of people who see the world how they are told to. If I were you, Id leave the owning property idea far away, and use any capital you have to generate income (business), or freedom (flight to Asia). Also the all or nothing of "rest of my life" attitude has to go, because that starkness will limit you from making the proper compromises at the opportune times. This is generally the mental trap of 20-something people, .they want their ideal now, but actually in order to manifest the lifestyle you want is often gradual, something you peck away at, with trials and errors along the way. Bonne Chance,
