If we had the technology to measure various "qi", and the still more subtle "whatever" that makes up the various "qi", we would be in a position to answer the question. As we are not, we can only compare the characteristics or aspects that are observable. Lets note that the human body has various ways to "create" various qi, and these are dependent upon a certain formation of nadis; also things like breathing, posture, and intent play a role in what type of qi is created. So comparing kunlun, the letting go, the posture, with Reiki's simple intent (plus an atunement that I assume changes/creates the nadis structure), we see the contrast in how the qi is created. There are quite a few similarities too, the detox, healing, revitalizing aspects. I'd conclude that there is elements of each in the other but they are not the same. And then theres the old solution of the Zen monk batting us on the head saying, does this noise matter?

Expertise and masters are hard to come by, you are lucky to find one. I dont know what kind of value calculations you make in your head, but generally the money you pay is just a token amount of the value. Look at KAP for example, it should make you giggle and fall off your chair at how much you get for so little. Perhaps some people just dont understand what they are getting, so they balk. I have a friend who thinks that anything spiritual that costs money is therefore a con. People just carry this idea with them, without ever really looking closely or even understanding what is being offered.

I wish someone had told me the importance of daily meditation practice when I was 18, so thats what I'd like to tell you. Its not just to feel relaxed, it helps the body transform, evolve. There's lots of good info at meditationexpert.com. Now, some people think that 18 year olds are too immature and self-absorbed to be able to make progress on the path of alchemical transformation, but I think its a matter of understanding the importance of enlightenment or immortality. Wish u luck.

I don't follow or read these people at all. I think that due to a kind of deductive reasoning. Drew is just reframing the arguement to a more abstract level, well I will too: From the point of view of the universe there is no aliens, and also genetic manipulation is a form of natural evolution. For me, trying to understand why we humans are relentlessly pretending to be these limited body bags that die off in about 78 years. Why, when siddhis are possible, are we still living like consumeristic apes? There are many plausible explanations as to why humans are still yet so spiritually unevolved. The Sumerian myths are backed by evidence of a higher knowlege, so why ignore evidence? It may be the right answer.

ALL cultivation work, not just Kunlun, is a runaway train. Hence a Zen master once said "better not to start. if started, better to finish." I think like Golden Dragon Body , is an experience so away from our normal existence experiences, that descriptive words that are part of our vocabulary don't go too far in explaining it. Something like explaining to a bumblebee in bumblebee language how it is to be a walrus. From what I gather, its having a choice to move into a higher density existence (whatever that is) and back.

Good topic P-man, I see you are a sincere spiritual pather.(There's so many retarded posts on this forum lately, I sometimes wonder) Here's my stuff at the moment. Right now I try to make yang-type meditations into yin (passive, no effort), so even vizualizations (which Ive found taxing) become as easy as breathing. Also when they become effortless I can stack for example, a visualation upon anapana, upon a sensation of energy. Right now Im trying to incorporate "being everywhere in the universe" into all my meditations, and the results are just groovy. Sometimes you just know that this is the way towards the Tao, just like making "love" part of all meditations; the feeling and visualizing of being the universe (I picked up this tip from Smile's post on what Master Nan told him to do. Powerful powerful advice.) just gets me ...deliciously...closer.

Does anyone have any information or specific meditations that could lead to developing the medic eye, which is the ability to see dirty qi and pathologies in others?

gold is heavy's sarcastic response is useful. the first few unusual energetic experiences we always try to corelate with descriptions and information out there. the problem is that there is few exact corelations to our experiences. theres alot of really wishful thinking-like information out there too. your experience might have been relatively big or small, in any case your teacher did you a service by using the experience to encourage you. i experience a large array of these energy things continually every day in all waking hours. bliss rises and falls, energy goes this way and that. no name, just one of the thousands of processes or mini-cycles of jing to chi and chi to shen. no big deal.

What do all faiths and religions have in common?
de_paradise replied to Stigweard's topic in General Discussion
I understand the kernal of each faith is a method of explaining cultivation science, the way to the Tao. The underlying operating system of the universe is well, universal, and beyond our understanding. However we dont need to understand windows software programming in order to use windows. We dont need to have the same name for each icon and programs either. Likewise we don't need to have the same god and religious system to reach the Tao. The program of the universe and the human mind is so user friendly we can make up endless stories and permutations of methods, that we can reach the Tao anyway. There are more mundane commonalities of faiths, having to do with social order, but that is for social commentators, of which there are already too many. -
I used this method often, but only as an addition to study and exercises. Good intentions are short lived, most people quit because languages take pretty long to learn. Good luck

Having trouble Sleeping - too much energy?
de_paradise replied to yeling's topic in General Discussion
In my experience...which is every night of lots of energy and stuff--I just meditate with mantra until my mind shifts to want to sleep, tiredness. Brain seems to secrete a chemical which allows dreaminess to come, at a certain point. At that point, I turn on my side and fall asleep pretty soon. I dont often want to sleep as I regard meditation at that state very valuable, but I wont resist the dreams because they are very clever in diverting concious mind. Its your mind that thinks it cant sleep through this stuff, but once you understand you can, it becomes a lullaby. -
I think we are a genetically altered race of normally evolved planet humans plus something else, as per the Sumerian legends. There must have been somebody altered us, with the techonology to genetically alter us, who were likely aliens. It stands to reason that there could be any specie of alien occupying the same space as us, as long as they are of a higher density we wouldnt perceive them.

Teachers in Taiwan: Dharma, Tao, Vajrayana, Bon
de_paradise replied to SimoninTaiwan's topic in General Discussion
Zen seems to be big there, for example Dharma drum mountain and the big monestary in Puyi, which I think you can go for a short stay. The Tibetan "traditions" are only likely to give you the basic dharma teachings, not high level cultivation methods, but they are around in their little temples. I know there are high level Taoists groups but as a foreigner and without attainments, who knows why they should pay attention to you. If I were looking for them, I would start by asking the martial arts teachers (ba gua) at Chiang Kai Shek memorial and also 228 peace park that practise in evenings or mornings. Maybe the martial arts bookstore on Hsinshen Rd. , Lion book publishing has books or ads that could give you ideas, sorry I dont remember the address. -

Alchemy is no joke, there are always risks. You think turning your body from what it is now into pure energy might NOT involve some very drastic transformations? If you are scared of wolves, dont go into the forest. A zen master said something like, "better not to start, if started, better to finish." I hear my brain cracking and ripping daily, if that sounds like something you cant take, then wait for another teacher, another book, or another lifetime. I find this semen retention for 3 months worry truly laughable, sorry people. 20th century medical doctors dont even know what jing or chi is, how could they possibly offer up a balanced or knowlegable opinion? They dont know what cultivation is, what the transformations are, what an ethereal body looks like. Any spiritual practise done half-way or in fear can fuck you up good, but many of us feel the call too strongly to worry about potentialities. You can trust that your body wants to evolve you, and the shocking transformations are for your good, and that meditations such as emptiness and kunlun1 which are non-forceful, are the safest variety.

Traditional bulbs are a big waste, flourescent tubes are also dinosaur era. There has been vast improvements in lighting efficiency that have not yet been universalized, not just LED but other technologies. I have a loathing for the internal combustion engine, I wish Britain would lead in getting rid of that. I hear Israel is planning to switch to electric cars.

I dont see the issue with *just* 100 days. Is it really that long to not jerk off? If you have a partner you must service, its more complicated of course. Master Nan and Bodri are constantly emphasizing the need for not wasting jing in order to acheive rapid spiritual progress. They may be wrong, but I would rather not err on the side of the pro-wankers.

I've found the same as Vortex. I think these topics can be introduced in PU if you dont take them so seriously, which is tough, since we DO take these things seriously. But they can be interesting in fun, superpowers, astral travels. If you look like you actually believe in the stuff you are saying, then, in my experience, its just too weird. IF you guys are interested, we can put together a list of some material that would work.

When you start a practise, you may find your phenomena or path may take its own course. I started with kundalini. (KAP is kundaliniawakeningprocess.com taught by our own beloved Vajrasattva, and I have not taken, but do know that his powerful transmissions plus the qigong techniques will get the K going fast) Max only says mixing the practises simultaneously is wrong, not the kundalini shakti energy with kunlun energy. I think you can decide your own pace after you get more experience with the methods and how your body responds. Its impossible to know in advance.
-
I'd do a KAP first, while relaxing with Yogani, and trying out Kunlun. I dont think your pro's and con's list will matter much when you get going and your understanding changes. The reason for KAP first is to get the Kundalini ignited earlier. This is a more daring path however. Love works, that can start now.

I'm learning a greater lesson here in real time. Is our Taobums posing a threat to traditional Taoism by our eclectic, watered down, and purged of ritual tradions of traditional Taoism. If so, and we are the disease, and Mak Tin Si is the cure? Until we change the forum name to multi-denominational cultivation bums, we can always be trumped by Mak's superior depth of knowlege and training, even though he only represents one medic, more folk oriented lineage. Have you realized yet that Mak's apparent insensitivity to the norms of the forum is actually a deliberate shepherding manouevre? In deference to Western sensibilities, we tend in this forum to not go too far into the particulars of each tradition or faced getting shot down in the thread. I remember a thread where someone mentioned Allah, and was duely attacked verbally. When I hear Tibetan buddhists in youtube start talking about all their Yidams and statues, my attention starts to fade, and I start thinking about the Zen people getting it right by purging all that. I lived in Taiwan for about 8 years, (lucky number, 发!)and got subject to webs of social norms based on what is deemed lucky. I didnt realize until Mak that there was a Taoist basis to many of these superstitions. If Mak is right, then Chinese people should be much luckier than those who do not have Taoism built into their society, and I'm not sure that could be proven. I do know that burning incense to your ancestors and lineage fathers is really communicating to them, I dont know why burning sticks and waving them a few times before putting them in a pot works, but it seems to be the case. I would need to know the energetic explaination to really be able to get my head around it. The standard acceptable Western explaination is that its the thought and intention that is the only force in play, but there's more to it than that, I just don't know what it is. You just have to go prove it to yourself if you dont believe it. Some thoughts.

how to get ride of unwanted sexual desires?
de_paradise replied to mewtwo's topic in General Discussion
Very interesting, I like that. I am from the school of not sticking your head in the sand as well. To the OP, what can help you is how you characterize or think of yourself. Note the difference, and the power of identity level statements: 1. "I am celibate" 2. "I'm a young man with natural desires and overactive hormones " Who is setting themselves up to succeed, who is setting themselves up to fail? Its obvious. Similarly: 1. I am a vegetarian 2. I don't want to eat meat but my body craves it when I smell barbeque." In our society, alot of men base their self esteem partly on their sexual prowess. Lots of pussy=winner. Something to recognize in your social programming and to get over. When the topic comes up, I just say, I've had sex before, and will probably have it again. -
Hi Mak, Why is it that some fu is on the yellow paper meant to be worn, or bathed in, or burnt etc. What purpose is the special ritual, if the fu can be simply drawn on a person with a finger in the air? Why are there so many different fu's, like statues and paper on walls? If an initiated Taoist with the knowlege and power can activate a fu, then can ANYTHING be a fu? Like chocolate cake or a text message to a telephone?
