  1. Stillness vs Visualization meditation

Visualization works well for me, wish it didnt because I really find it taxing. Thats probably the reason why it works so well-it engrosses my attention so much because I have to continually put so much effort into keeping the shapes. Aside from that, the attention is directed outside of the body (except in white skeleton), a real disconnect with whatever emotional state I have at the moment. And stillness doesnt have that automatic disconnect. Also, I think we have a giga-ton of other attachments; a modern western meditator is likely not to get attached to the object of visualization, such as this or that particular deity.
  2. mind and reality symposium

Not sure if anyone posted this already, but there are many many hours of very interesting talks in mp3 and video here: http://mindandreality.org/seminar.html The main objective is to bring together Buddhist thought and method, together with the Western neurosciences and philospy.
  3. how does transmission work?

Has anyone a grasp on how a person transmits, I mean the mechanism ; what level a person must be at in order to transmit. My teacher in Hong Kong (I call him my teacher, but its just a master who I pester with questions) says he does it by doing something in the hand of the transmitee. I wonder how he does this something. Has Max C explained it? If its activating some forgotten junk DNA, then how does this DNA get activated?
  4. Chinese and Tibet?

I asked some Chinese about the Tibet issue. In Shenzhen anyway, its not really part of their conscious thought, however they are aware of it being a land grab, lebensraum, expedience for the good of the country. The emotions, the religious angle, the use of force, etc. all part of the puppet play of a more organized culture absorbing another.
  5. how does transmission work?

Indeed White Tiger, as the answers I am getting are pointing to the master somehow channeling a deity and it's the deity doing the handiwork, then I think this chore would likely be complicated beyond my understanding (BTW, I made a disclaimer in an earlier post in order to head off the type of arguements such as yours, because I think this line of enquiry is so extremely tantilizing) More support for the divine theory: I told Zeev Kohlmans story to my teacher, http://www.zeevkolman.net/excrpts.shtml and he nodded and said that was likely; however he did not elaborate. "Divine" is often used as a metaphor so we cannot rule out some easier tackled cause and effect mechanism. It just may be something as simple as wiggling his finger in a specific way, and the mirror neurons doing their part. I do have proof enough to satisfy me. ie. master A transmited supra-mundane ability to person B and person B demonstrates ability on me. Not double blind laboratory isolated conditions though.
  6. how does transmission work?

All interesting replies; just to put this back to my original intention, I'm talking about the transmission of the supra-mundane, such as mentioned the opening of the dan-tien, the ability to focus bio-energy for healing purposes, or the stimulation to starting the various cleaning mechanisms of the body for the subtle bodies to become refined. The amount of people with this ability and also willingness to explain this stuff to a person of my low understanding (in terms of cultivation) must be very small. Mirror neurons is a good fact to throw out to prove "we are interconnected", for people more convinced by scientific facts than their own sense data.
  7. Kunlun and computers

Put a compass out next time
  8. Kunlun compatibility with meditation

Since this is a Kulun thread, I'll just put my question here. I've started doing a few sessions ; I'm either in the process of letting go and getting the energy started or flapping around like a fish, all my vertebrae getting rolled, wondering how much I can take before I slow it down. So what ought one spend the majority of a kunlun 1 session doing if it were 1 hour?
  9. Quarter Moon

nope, this might interest you though:
  10. Kunlun Europe

I did some checking... La Muraz, (the French location) is an isolated little village with no hotels, 10km away from the nearest town, Annemasse with quite a few hotels, but no connenting bus service to La Muraz it seems. So the only way to get there is by taxi or car hire. The option of staying in Annecy, which is really nice, 30km away and with cheap hotels, or Geneva. I've stayed in Annecy before at a really cheap and nice hotel not far from the train station, run by these ancient and kindly ladies: Hotel Savoyard Annecy ,41 av. de Cran I havent signed up fo the seminar yet, but maybe we can organize a rental car and place to stay if someone is interested, otherwise I'll be packing my bicycle in the train.
  11. Some Awesome Music Videos

    nice!
  12. Fav. meditation lately

I've been getting really great results from this method, which is bits and pieces of things I picked up on here and in hypnosis. Its probably aleady known, but heres how i do it: Sitting quietly, form an image of self some distance away, like facing yourself. I'm not good at visualizing, but a blurry form seems to be good enough. Start to attribute the qualities, emotions, mindsets to the dissociated image of self that you want to acheive. Usually I try to attain a love-acceptance-of-environment-and-all-of-self, so much so that the dissociated image can join with the environment as one, or float through it. Its just that loving and accepting and at one with. notes: What I notice is the emotions that are attibuted to the dissociated self are not in the usual place of your body's emotions,( ie. the stomach region), the emotions seem to be mental only, in the head, but they do the trick. Also the dissociated self is not cluttered up with noise/emotions, and I spend time sensing the difference of how each body feels. Its quite a difference. In hypnosis this technique is usually used for threshing out one's ideal self, and then joining with that image. Its good strong results for me, so much so that I cannot keep focused long on the image because of stage where I am now, I get socked with a strong voltage and phenomena. So I keep setting up the scenario, get results, go unbalanced, wash rinse repeat. So thats it. If you have a meditation method to share, please do!
  13. Help if you can

Here's my opinion, but dont take my word for it. Be a lamp unto Yourself As the Buddha was dying, Ananda asked who would be their teacher after death. He replied to his disciple - "Be lamps unto yourselves. Be refuges unto yourselves. Take yourself no external refuge. Hold fast to the truth as a lamp. Hold fast to the truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone besides yourselves. And those, Ananda, who either now or after I am dead, Shall be a lamp unto themselves, Shall betake themselves as no external refuge, But holding fast to the truth as their lamp, Holding fast to the truth as their refuge, Shall not look for refuge to anyone else besides themselves, It is they who shall reach to the very topmost height; But they must be anxious to learn."
  14. distance healing

Here's what I know: my "teacher" can do this if he has the address of the recipient, and although it may be written in a language he doesnt know, and he only speaks Chinese; the "chi" will find the person somehow anyway. He says it takes about 20 minutes for the healing energy to reach around the world from when he starts emitting it. Me: "so how is that possible?"
  15. Who thinks Bill Bodri is right?

Yeah, you are right. I expressed myself wrong because I was paying too much attention to the loosening effect, which is why emptiness meditation seems to be superior,as per the original topic; emptiness does increase qi flow. Its less strong of an increase than I get often from a yoga/chi gong exercise,; sexual stimulation without ejaculating--where the chi (or whatever it is) palaply changes in consistancy/texture to a thicker mixture that is also more forceful. The emptiness kind of increased flow in my feeling is like a speeding up wind when I close my eyes and shut my mind...but then a good stillness can slow it right down. Anyway this is just self-observations and may have no relevence to you.
  16. Who thinks Bill Bodri is right?

Since I can feel in my head all the cleaning mechanisms (which at the moment is like a wire grid net over my face, and a vortex hole being widened from top of my head downwards) Ive made some observations about what accelerates the process: Exercise (like qigong moments), sexual stimulation, food--all have the effect of stregthening the qiflow. Its like turning a small river into a larger stronger river. Emptiness--has increasing usefulness according to the refinement of emptiness. It doesnt increase the power of qiflow but relaxes everything surrounding it like loosening a knit sweater. It must have the effect of loosening the tightness of the moleculer level (and beyond) body and therefore the qi (or whatever it is) can sweep through, unblocking and finding the impure bits and removing them. The deeper the emptiness state, the looser everything gets. ie. when you melt yourself into the room or into sound etc. (I havent gotten much deeper than that) and kundalini qi becomes a ginsu knife through a tomato. So using my personal evidence I conclude that Nan is wrong on the surface because energetic works have a definite palpable effect; however deeper and deeper emptiness states is the direction I must go because thats the method that can be continually refined and improved to acheive still more efficacious results. Emptiness is the major leagues and beyond.
  17. full moon

So I was wondering if anyone here has some light to shed on the subject of full moons and the particularity of these days. Here is Datta's explainations:
  18. I have a Mahayana bone in my body that wants to get people onboard the spiritual path. I keep thinking, damn, I wish someone had told me earlier about the pysiological refinements that accompany the path, I would have been practising meditation much much earlier. But like pretty much everyone, I was just packing on information at a superficial level that leads nowhere. It was Bodri's attitude that really resonated with me where an Indian yogi for example could never put things in a way where there wasnt so much mumbo jumbo. Awakening the ethereal body brings all sorts of benefits, so it shouldnt be a tough sell. Yet explaining to even a friend some rudimentary things ( not even mentioning my personal experience which is totally sci-fi) I can see them typically trance out, going into what hypnotists call a transderivational search where the brain seeks to understand information by relation and context; then their brain generally comes up with something that tells me they didnt understand what I was saying. like they make a comment on organized religion or give me some kind of advice as if I were asking for advice. I read the founder of Reiki went around healing the poor and lower classes in hopes of bringing them to understand the reality of spirituality; but he got frustrated when after healing them, for example a theif, the theif went back to his old job. The Taoists are not a thumping tradition as far as I know, mainly secretive and stingy, but honestly in this new age of information, Im of Max Christensen's attitude that theres no point in holding back secrets. Even siddhis, perhaps in the old days it was better to hide them, but nowadays even if you show them that their model of reality is limited and should be uprgaded by using means of a siddhi as proof, cognitive dissonace will ultimately usually shove that proof out of their minds because of the tenacity of the ego's view. So a siddhi is possibly one of the only means of getting people to challenge reality enough to give spirituality a try, and hell in this age of science, not even that effective. Anyway, I'm interested in hearing what the people here have to say on this topic since most of you have been pratising way longer than me.
  19. buddha pyhsiology question.

So why are buddhas and certain high level monks ears so long? Does the chi drip out of them. I googled it but people generally think its just symbolic, but I know its some kind of cultivation phenomenon.
  20. What is the Average Age of a Tao Bum

Last year, at 36, I had to abandon what I thought I knew. So that makes me an infant with the burden of the preconceptions of a 37 year old.
  21. buddha pyhsiology question.

Strange thing happened to me some months back. A kind of force took over my tongue and tried to put it in a certain way, like an "s" shape, folded and pleated--and put that beyond the upper palate to that cavern behind it, and that area would make room for it by receding and deepening. But my tongue kept slipping out of the position it wanted, and the force made my tongue go throufgh calisthetics front to back, and repeating, to make it more flexible to hold that position so far back; my tongue got pretty tired and streched out and I stopped that session. That took about 2 hours and hasnt happened since. I felt a bit frustrated like I had let not be able to bring my tongue to the place the force intended it to.
  22. Mao Shan Pure Heart

OMG 永道, hahahahaha! ROFL. That, my friend, is a brain fuggler. (Couldn't resist.)
  23. Mao Shan Pure Heart

Can't relate to deities, but can relate to weird stuff noone can relate to. Its interesting how we seek company when things get really weird. Like now, my skull is being squashed by a silky but hard microfiber lampshade-like thing, that is also sifting through my flesh. Noone can say: OH, its THAT, yeah, I had that yesterday before breakfast. OH, Deities. Really? Another croissant? At least you have a sifu to call.
  24. what is a person?

What is a person. (ie. What are you?)
  25. Women: You can't live with them,.....

OP, no disrespect but there's displayed in this pile of mental masturbation the implicit ego boosting, attachment to mind-projected reactions and mind-constructed falsehoods, attachment to sex, attachment to not sex. This is THE SAME as adolescent drivelling on about some girl in class, no matter if you change the words to karma and frame it as a Taoist conundrum. Now I'm in the same friggen boat and prone to the same problems: which is why I'm being hard on you, because Im really being a jerk to myself too. There is no reason you cant bang her and practise your taoist sexual skills, or just cuddle to convert the feminine energy. You ought to do this and help get over alot of attachments in one fell swoop.
