Under trees too. Trees are good. -
Sounds good. The 'vibe' is better here now for sure.

There's always a ferry. Or a bridge. Somewhere along any riverbank. Some people just enjoy risk taking.
-
Good call. Faith- full. Kudos! I'd tend to check if there was a bridge or ferry further along down the riverbank. But each to his own. Once safely across the river we can all forget the means by which we crossed it.

@LeoViridis. "I still think that simply chanting will not achieve the end goal of liberation from karma and reincarnation. Even if you chant for 12 hours a day, you may still end up making certain decisions, which will affect your karma, and nothing will change. " That's a fair comment and perhaps you are correct. There are however those who might claim contrary to our own viewpoint...Positing chanting as a 'convenient method' towards attainment. For example...... http://www.buddhist-elibrary.org/library/view.php?adpath=134

Should have been more specific in the OP. Apologies. Does Dan Tien in Chinese also refer to or is the term ever used colloquially in China to mean 'belly'.

Trust in the magic stepping stones. Just so long as you also know how to swim. :-)

In Mindfulness Practice © we teach to observe thoughts non-judgementally then return to the breathing. Not so much a 'space between thoughts' but a place apart from thoughts. Next step is to ponder ' who is observing?' That can take a while. :-)

Meanwhile the mind, from pleasure less, Withdraws into its happiness; The mind, that ocean where each kind Does straight its own resemblance find, Yet it creates, transcending these, Far other worlds, and other seas; Annihilating all thats made To a green thought in a green shade. ( From Andrew Marvell's ' The Garden'). I like some of those old Metaphysical Poets. Marvell coulda been a Taoist.

Back in the dim and distant as a young nursey- boy I was medical attendant at Mann Island on the Gorree in Liverpool. Doing medicals for the Merchant Navy ' British Shipping Federation'. Great city. The Wirral is a bit posh isn't it? Karma is good sometimes. Dropped £30 quids on the National yesterday then picked up £75 sovs on last night's lottery.

TTB has improved. I took an extended break from this forum due to product placement advertising being passed off as posts and truly awful moderation from one particular 'personal stalker' mod who seems to have either been let go or has moved on. Still a slight 'frisson' of chippiness from another 'Mod' ( no idea what those new job tiles signify so Mod will have to so) since I came back. I put that down to poor manners or lack of hospitality skills and we'll see how things go. Where I work we are welcoming to guests of and visitors to our establishment. Conversations wise, much better due to fewer obvious nut cases and Mo Pai fundamentalists hence a lot less shouting. Fewer advertisement posts barring the blatant ones carrying ads as sigs and at least those are honest about their reason for being on here. Pretty good really, thus far.

Serious point. If you couldn't see yourself then you'd not be there hence no Yin Chi could be absorbed. OK maybe that needs a little work. Makes ya think though. Eh? ;-) -

Just say you were flying through space at the speed of light. And you held a mirror up in front of your face. Would you see yourself reflected in it? -
Is Buddhism a form of rational atheism?

Nah. Mental block here. Can't make 'em work at all. Crosswords and Sudoku the same. Mrs GMP can do those for fun. Not me. -
Finally something that suggests mindfulness?

+1 The minute we think... " Wow! That's me enlightened!" We're wrong. -

Forgive an intrusion if you see this post as such. JAJ I have read his Medical QiGong book and thought it most interesting. Not something I'll ever 'do' but it was well written and not very expensive from Amazon partners. This $200 latest book of his I'll never buy as it is too much to pay for me for something I would only be reading for interest and with no intention to try to put into my practice. Having now read through all this thread it is obvious that some serious Bums recommend that book and if people like baguakicksass says a book is good then I reckon a book is good. Albeit this one's not for me. FH I was a bit anti to at first but the more I read his stuff the more inspirational I saw it to be. Also it is freely offered,, which is no criticism of anyone charging money. I charge fees for classes otherwise I would have to pay the dojo rental out of my own pocket which would be pretty silly. So maybe JAJ has his contribution to make and FH has his work to do. We can and maybe could respect them both for that.

We very rarely buy in plants or seeds. Mrs GMP saves seed and overwinters tender plants indoors plus she takes lots of cuttings. If something self seeds, as a rule; we let it. Year before last she took out most of the Nasturtiums as those were taking over in one bed and we picked up seeds. Hence last year we didn't have many Nasturtiums and I missed them if truth be told. Confession time is that I have been sowing Nasturtium seeds unbeknownst to Mrs GMP this past week. This past week the Spiraea has come into flower pure white lighting up a darkish corner and it's next to some Euphorbia Griffithii with dark green leaves and about four foot tall in a drift. In amongst the euphorbia some orange wallflowers are starting to show and it looks a picture in that bed right now. More to come. I love springtime.

Performed Aerobic Tu Na(吐吶) for Thirty Years

+1 I teach seniors ( plus I am a senior but not as old as most of the folks I teach). Holding breath is out of the question as is anything to strenuous or complex to learn. We began with Mindfulness as an additional study last year and that has really paid dividends. Whilst the idea is to 'return to the breathing' to calm the monkey mind, a side effect is that as they practice breathing steadily then for many their breathing improves. We use the same breathing technique for Mindfulness as for QiGong. Tongue up and in through nose down into LDT. Tongue down and out through mouth working towards out as long as in. When they begin the out is always a lot shorter than the in breath and always 'jumpy'. As they progress the out lengthens and becomes a lot smoother. It's all good and many benefits not just physically but psychologically too. Here's some refereed research via that link in my sig. That research was funded by our National Health Service which has introduced Mindfulness. -
You got that right. :-)
