Some thoughts on the effects of solitude and living more humbly
GrandmasterP replied to skydog's topic in General Discussion
Lad from our centre is going to do that Camino de Santiago 500 mile walk to Santiago de Compostella in August, he's raising money for Water Aid charity. I reckon something like that might be a good chance to meditate etc as one plods along that ancient route. There are pilgrim hostels all the way where folk on the route can sleep and eat for very little money. -
South Indians will not drink really cold water and anything with ice in it they regard with horror. I was constantly being told off for enjoying my bottled water from the fridge

Living at peace with society...

One way is to play with society. There's a brilliant book been in print for years that's a useful 'how to' guide to doing that.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Win-Friends-Influence-People/dp/0091906814/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359119821&sr=8-1 Those old positive thinkers like Dale Carnegie knew a thing or two and his stuff really does work. Over 20-million copies sold since that book came out before the last war and it's still selling well today. -

I knew that, it's a good thread NE way. I'm of the opinion that anyone who chooses to live like a hermit or a monk who is young enough to have a blast and enjoy life is seriously missing out on a shit load of fun. Do what you can when you can and store happy memories and super experiences against the day when you're too old and knackered to do it anymore. Comes soon enough does old age and decrepitude, time enough for spiritual musings then and they are a great comfort to one's declining years. -

Dissociation gets the job jobbed for us. We don't socialise apart from work and centre and those are superficial 'of necessity' interactions. Family apart, and we see those rarely as we live a couple of hundred miles away from the nearest; we tend to our own plot and let the world sail by. Our nearest neighbour is a quarter of a mile away and she's a good chum as high fences make for good neighbours, we share horse work with her so mutual interest 'chums'. Couldn't be doing with living cheek by jowl with people in a built up area. We have had to do that in the past and lived in London for some years but first chance we could we high tailed it into rural isolation. Who was it said... "Hell is other people" ? -
Edited following moderator's advice. :-)

......Thing is Enlightenment is a slippery word, what it 'means' is dependant on who is using it and to what end. -

Did you hear about the guy who didn't know the difference between putty and custard MH? Neither had he until his windows fell out. I want to learn from the guy who has made mistakes, the ones who claim to be perfect aren't to be trusted.

You missed a blast, we do similar in session 1, in session 2 we ask.. 'What is it like to be a bat?' One of the simple joys remaining in life is watching first years melt.

Indisputables.... Mrs GMP's cake is delicious. Our cat is boss of the house. Politicians are liars. White is not a colour. Gold is not a colour. Pigs, sheep and cows can cry. Need any more?

Nasty business all round. On another forum I post to whenever someone posts a pro civil rights type of image or comment other people immediately post anti images and comments. Same goes with pro Israel or anti Islam and whenevr I mention being a union rep someone (usually from the USA) calls me a commie It's one of those things, everybody has their own opinions on political issues. I'm very pro MLK and all he stood for and still does stand for and as this thread is about MLK maybe best not to use it for fighting about other issues eh?

Well that was certainly the oddest Rankin I've read so far, very funny though. The sequel to it 'Armaggedon the Musical' was surreal, but lots of laugh out louds. His ' Necrophenia' on the go now, so far so good.
