........ Less thinking more dating young man. Sterling remedy to melancholia is getting your rocks off regularly. Start small and work your way up. Ugly or fat ladies are often grateful for the attention. Go amongst them smiling confidently, ask questions and feign an interest in their replies and pretty soon you'll be fighting them off with a stick Yoga classes are chock a block with ladies in search of such as yourself if only they had the opportunity to meet you. No charge for the consultation.

Specialist language serves to define the users thereof in order to exclude the uninitiated. Hence you and I ma have a cold but our Doctor will call it acute coryza, cos she can. No fun at all belonging until you learn the passwords and become accepted by other password users as part of the gang. All these buzz words and phrases are just that, language to both include 'us' and exclude 'them'. The bullshit-cleric-ridden paths aside (Tibetan NE one?) , all the terms have a core and similar meaning or focus. We say cultivation they day meditation. We say playing they say exercising. We say summerland they say heaven... And so on

Which of these authors is properly teaching meditation?

Nothing at all wrong with Theosophists DreamBliss but outside of India they are a dying breed. The London Society has had to sell its HQ for lack of members and funds and they are a shadow of what they once were in the UK. not a lot know that western Buddhism started as a Theosophical Lodge and that background has coloured many approaches to Buddhism from a western theoretical perspective. Christmas Humphries was the main player back in he day and Alan Watts old Dad was the treasurer plus Alan himself who started out as a Theosophical Lodge Buddhist and never strayed very far from it until his passing. Take your point about being isolated, our spiritualist friends in the USA face similar problems of distance between centres and lack of teachers locally. Here in England being very small there is something close by everybody who chooses to attend. -
............ That was back in the 80s of the last century. Since then there has been certainly one and possibly more than one MoPai schism hence these sub sects can say and do more or less as they choose. In addition the chancers and snake oil salesmen who latch onto the MoPai name but appear to be making it up as they go along, actually benefit from the cod obfuscation and end of the pier mysticism attaching to the MoPai in the west.

How many people practice Taoism to gain supernatural powers?

Fractals are SOOOO last century. -
Well one could circumcise ones-self. Why Anyone might want to do so I cannot imagine but it could be done. But to circumscribe one's self... Still can't get my head round that and suspect that it may be quite profound. Either profound or a typo. Yes where is 3 bob? He was here a while back, maybe he popped out to the shops. If you see him do tell him that we were asking after him.

Can't beat a nice nap. I do some of my best cultivation when I am snoozing, especially the flying, remote viewing (Sinan leave that ALONE , you'll make it sore !,,)and astral travel We all need eight hours sleep in twenty-four hours, any sleep extra to that you are able to fit in is pure bonus.

Things to take to a martial arts bout

....... Low centre of gravity. Hence QiGong etc is the ideal cultivation for retired wrestlers as it focuses on sinking and to some extent old wrestlers are 'pre-sunk' so QiGing or TaiChi maybe comes that bit easier to us. I know the first time I ever was shown QiGong that was it, a light came on in my head saying... At last, something actually designed for short stocky guys with most of their weight around their erse. That you would not find with ballet or ballroom. :-) -

............ Sounds like fun. Thank you for the info. -
If he's still playing then my money would be on John Chang. Mr. McMillan is my age. Kosta Danaos seems to have moved on and these other chaps no one seems to have seen play. We could sell tickets, it'd be a good first Match. You'd still need a headliner main bout to fill all the seats though. Dalai Lama v Panchen Lama , full contact MMA maybe.

Rational only gets you so far. Many great leaps forward must have appeared to be quite irrational at the time. Pot Noodle for example.

Very wise staying away from Apple. This new iPad is less than versatile. It won't even word process unless I buy something called an App. I am hearing good things about the Kindle Fire at just £159-00.

Maybe one of the drawbacks of secrecy is that if things aren't out in the open and transparent then anyone can set up a shingle claiming to be level-this or Shifu That and no one knows any different as there's no way to check their credentials and testimonials can be self referential with Shifu That's chums posting praise and bigging their school up online. It's something of a pattern in the less well known martial arts too. When Escrima surfaced over here it wasn't too long before there were four competing associations each one slagging the other one off as invalid. That's more or less settled down these days and those instructors that could do worked together whilst the ones that could not and some chancers just disappeared off the radar. MoPai in Surabaya is akin to the Freemasons over here, a closed society with secrets and it's closed to westerners. There are at least two schools over there, the John Chang group led b the chap who succeeded JC plus a schism from that original group and based in a martial arts school in the city. There may well be more and there are certainly several brands of cultivation claiming the MoPai name here in the west but with what validity we know not. Someone is or was selling a ' how to' manual for $300 US but who is to say that it is a 'genuine' MoPai manual? Do we even know if there is such a thing as an original MoPai manual in Chinese or whatever language they use in Java feom which presumably reliable English translations could be made. I am puzzled by reference here and elsewhere to 1a...2b and he like as according to the McMillan and Danaos books the early stages were simplified to 1,2,3,4 for western students when the MoPai were admitting western students. It all seems to be a bit of a muddle and where there is muddle you may sometimes find unscrupulous folk cashing in on the confusion. We all know of at least one bum who has lost money as a result of MoPai goods and services that failed to appear. Maybe the best advice until we know more is, don't send any money to anyone or anything advertising under the MoPai banner.

OIC Seems fair enough. Ta.

I know what the individual words mean kinda, it's the sentence I'm struggling with.

.......................... Who is the current head of the MoPai please?

........ You were missed. Good to see you back.

Not sure what you mean by 'circumscribe the self'. Help please.
