  1. Money is only tokens. No use at all apart from what you can exchange it for. You can't take it with you when you leave your body and those who get by on inherited wealth as opposed to what they have personally worked for are usually a royal pain in the erse. An Englisman's home is his castle . Hence one nice thing money can buy is independence from BS such as landlords. You own your house freehold in England then everybody but the tax man can feck off.
  2. No winning, no losing, just having fum

I'm totally non competitive and will challenge anyone who says different to an arm wrestling contest.
  3. Slaves, Wage slaves

We both kinda agreed elsewhere that Marblehead's karma is to not believe in karma.
  4. to guru or not to guru?

Forgot to add... if you paste Guru Rating Service into Google you'll find a site containing league tables for the main names currently working as professional [full time paid] gurus complete with customer comments.
  5. You had me on board at 'just cultivate' bro. That's all any of us can do. ;-)
  6. Apologies. I was attempting humour. The only 'dark brotherhoods' out there are the ones paranoics choose to imagine. Comes a point always where dark kinda tips over into light and vice versa. It's a Yin - Yang thang.
  7. to guru or not to guru?

Welcome. It is fun here. Enjoy. Gurus tend to be Hindu-lite. That Sadhguru ad his Isha fondation are busy online. Hatha Yoga from a Shiva-te perspective. Tony Parsons for non duality. Check him out at urbanguru.com Taoists don't do gurus but we do have Masters [M&F], if that's what someone wants. The Buddhists you'd need to ask. They have all sorts depending which strand of Buddhism they identify with. Old Taoist saying goes........ When the student is ready the Master appears.
  8. Her veggie special fried rice with sweet 'n sour sauce is only £3-00 and you get enough to feed two.
  9. Ming [she runs our local Chinese chip shop] is much more useful than mind.
  10. Funny thing is everything the union calls management... management says the exact same thing about union members. We call it 'industrial relations'. ;-)
  11. The dark brotherhood and their associates the queen bitches from hell are senior managers in the university where I work as a lecturer plus trade union official for the local branch of a teachers union. One could but therefore wish that this 'Celestial Mandate' bollocks was true. Do carry on posting please SunLover, you are making at least one old man chuckle.
  12. Religion

Coincidentally XieJia the two posts above are our mutual 454th. :-)
  13. Religion

    Excellent and wise post.
  14. What would be "heaven" for a Taoist? :D

I'll not be ordering that movie from Amazon anytime soon then. If David Carradine aint in it then I tend not to watch it. I've always preferred comedies and ol David's tongue was always firmly in his cheek plus they used top MA practitioners for stuntmen and few of the technical tricks seen today with blue screens and wires etc.. On topic was going to post yesterday that Heaven is a day off work plus gardening. But it rained all day so no gardening got done. Caught up a bit this morning doing Pelargonium cuttings plus autumn tidying out bedding plants. Lots left to do as always. :-)
  15. That's a good point Sinan and anything that can counteract negative/cruel thinking is useful so maybe the Xtians were onto something but, as usual; they mixed in an added seasoning of guilt to make the Xtian reader feel bad. Keeps their priests n pastors in work does guilt and its mate 'fear'. Very useful tools in any sectarians toolbox. Like well trained sheepdogs, guilt n fear keep the sheep firmly within the sheep-pen. Some of our alchemical cousins are that way inclined. Terrified that they, or more often; others might somehow be cultivating 'wrongly'. Witness their fearfully shouty posts elsewhere on here from time to time.
  16. Positive Thinking is a bit older than the 1960s. About a century older. Christian Science,Peirce ,Dewey William James and the Boston Transcendentalists kick started it. How to Win Friends and Influence People plus Samuel Smiles earlier book Self Help were the bibles of the movement. Not saying the CIA didn't use it subversively. Those guys are clever and well funded. They planted Dispensational Pentecostalism in South America to counteract radical-Marxian 'base communities' movements in Roman Catholicism and that has gone global since the 60s
  17. Taoist criticisms on Zen

And isn't it sweet that a poster having chosen the name 'exorcist' appears to be promoting an idea that the object of cultivation is to become a "Taoist god"? Delicious irony.
  18. Taoist criticisms on Zen

Taoists critiquing Zen is like a Grandparent critiquing their own grandchild. Very very rare indeed. More likely grandpa or granny gives praise and encouragement and in their eyes anyway the grandchild can do no wrong. Of course the kid's mum and dad might see things differently. Hence PL/Shin/Zen disageements. But Tao and Zen in conflict? I really think not. All paths are Tao at bottom. Zen is a super cultivation as are PL and Shin and the previous poster is so right that some cultivation methods are more comfortable to older people than others. Many of the lagely senior QiGong cultivators you can see in Chinese parks each morning will have been WuShu or similar cultivators when younger. PL is easier than prolonged zazen hence it is popular with older ladies especially. There is no etter or worse in cultivation. All cultivation, adhered to; is beneficial whatever its lineage and there's a cultivation path to suit all ages both genders and every personal preference and level of physical stamina . To engage in any.. 'my way is better than yours'discourse is ultimately futile. Those who do so might do well to examine their motives for so doing. One suspects those motives would be discovered north of the neck from whence much dissension stems. Other, better foci for 'feelings' are available to all via cultivation.
  19. 5 Elements and Personality Typology

Palm reading is as useful as any other method. The sitter brings the reading with them and you read them. Whatever you use to do that is window dressing Fate is no more contained in the palm of anyone's hand than it is on their left buttock.
  20. Religion

    A dogma is a dog's mother.
  21. Self-ish isn't an insult, it's an inn along the path. Everybody checks in. Some like it so much they buy a condo and live there. Others stay a while then move on. It's a nice inn. There are lots like it along the same path. Religious sects own and run a lot of them. Very hospitable people; sectarians.
  22. David Adam had more or less cornered the Celtic market til O'Donohue popped up. Nice field to plough. So long ago nobody knows sod all much for sure hence current writers can more or less make it up as they go along. Odd thing is they seldom mention the Celtic era diggers archaeological papers on human sacrifice finds. Lindisfarne is a nice spot though. When it isn't raining.
  23. I Am Thinking of Trying To Get Into An MBA Program...

Faculty administrators refer to MBA as..... Moneyspinner...Beats Anything. MBAs sell well, cost little to resource and attract wealthy overseas students. Mrs GrandmasterP did an MBAEd at Keele and that pays as it's the qual of choice for those recruiting senior managers for educational establishments but a generic MBA...waste of money. Do your own via floating a business. That's what most of the big hitters have done. If you don't fancy commerce then with what Psych quals you will have soon Life Coaches get a nice living if they know where and how to advertise. Plus it's an easy start up. Just remember not to giggle when clients are paying you. Wait til they've left your office.
  24. Salacious thread. Is there a shower room? Get real guys he either did it or he didn't. Gleeful rubbing of hands anf tut tutting won't change a thing unless you get off on this dreck. And if you do then you are diminished thereby Powerholders getting jiggy is as old as time and happens all the time. Look at the odious Catholics. New Kadampa was a nest of vipers til they did some spring cleaning and some Sinhalese monks are no angels. It's what happens when you mix lust with power. Always has, always will. If they were in any way attractive to women most Tantrists would never be out of the papers.
